Well, this grand experiment to try another book in this series failed for me. There were way too many characters in this book and not enough information about any one of them. The motivations for the characters were not clear. I like more in depth writing than this. I was trying to solve the mystery of Cira from "Blind Alley." Cira, a beautiful actress from the ancient city of Herculaneum, (Herculaneum in Rome was destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius ) became the subject for J...more

i have yet to disclose my love of Iris Johansen, but man, it is deep. i have read everything she has written. and this was the book that set it off, my deep love for jane and eve duncan.
it's a tightly woven plot that has memorable characters in every area, it's got crazy psychological and historical stuff, and there's all this forensic sculpting, which reminds me of "bones". thinking about how much i love these books makes

I was not a big fan of this book. I debated for some time if I should give it a one star rating, but I was able to finish it and I figure that would warrant a two.
Overall is ended up being much more of a preverbial romance novel than anything. I had never read this author before and picked it up on a road trip so I had nothing to go on at purchase.
The story was predictable and the characters didn't grab me in to their world at all.

I really loved reading this book along with a lot of the other books in this series with Eve Duncan her adopted daughter Jane and her husband Joe. I hope one day though there will be a book that will find Bonnie's killer. These books have been very good and all are well written

If you're desperate for a read this is one to fill in the time. Not a book to pick up casually as the character development happened in previous books. The reader is assumed to have knowledge of characters and has to guess at filling in the holes.
I may try to find some of the earlier books and see if this catches on for me. But right now it's just a filler.

I wish I could get that 8 hrs of my life back. I will never read another book by Iris Johansen again. Her writing style reminds me of the nonsenical love stories we girls used to write in junior high. The characters don't act at all like real people would and the plot was ridiculous. Pee-wee's Big Adventure had more substance than this book.

Still seems like the bad guys are taken out, the guy gets the girl, and I need to find a new author. I just find that reading too many books by the same author usually leads me to thinking that the plots are all very similar. I will read the last one I have here... then it's time to read someone else. At least the books are all suspenseful...
