I couldn't catch on to this book for the first thirty pages. Then I realized that it the fifth book in a series--well no wonder! My favorite character is Eve, who reconstructs faces. There were some mystical elements to this plot that seemed contrived--Eve's conversation with the ghost of her daughter and the dreams of Jane that seem to be playing out in real life. Trevor is weird--first you think he is the serial killer and you just can't figure him out. I liked the part set in Italy. I wa...more

what can i say about Iris Johansen that i haven't already said? as usual, another really GREAATTT twisted thriller!

of course, when you're alone in a 150+ year old house, w/ some nutcase (heavy breather) that keeps calling you every hour thru the nite, this book might not exactly be the best one to ally any fears you have of being attacked in the nite!!! 8^)

only complaint i have, is how quickly they jumped in time between the previous book in this series, and this one. the character th...more

I was so disappointed with this book, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone. It was poorly written. I was really looking forward to a story about Jane McGuire. This book is about a serial killer obsessed with Jane because she looks like a 2000 year old woman (from Caeser's time). I am now reading the book following this one, and I think it is going to be just as bad. Iris Johanson must have had a crappy writing streak with Blind Alley, Countdown and Killer Dreams.

Woah! This is my first Iris Johansen book and I am WAY impressed. I couldn't wait to get home last night to finish this book and it was fabulous. I know I'm way behind as it was published over 4 years ago and I just read it by chance--my mom bought it at a garage sale. I'm now going to get book she previewed at the end of this one (published in '05) but oh well! Highly recommend!

I think this will be my last IJ book that I read. I was waiting for a library book to come in so I thought I would pick a fast reading suspense novel. To my amazement this book dragged and dragged and dragged. The 800+ pages in Harry Potter 7 seemed to go by a lot faster. There wasn't a great story line. Had a lot of potential in the beginning but kind of lost it's kick.

Has a copy to sell/swap
Johansen has really put a lot of thought into her Characters, and I love that she uses some of the same charaters in other books,

For Eve Duncan

The Face of Deception
The Killing Game
The Search
Body of Lies
Blind Alley
Countdown

the Characters will flow better if you read them in this order.

Really interesting - the idea that someone who looks just like you is killed specifically because the killer thought it was you and then the only way to stay alive is to let your friends and family all think you are still dead until you can trap the killer yourself...awesome..

I was really drawn into this book in the beginning. However, I thought the second half really dragged and found my attention lacking. The author built to the climax for most of the book and then the climax was sort of quick and over with. Not my favorite by Iris Johansen.

Once again, a good book from Iris. The thing I like about her books is that, even though they are part of a series, they can still be read alone (i.e. out of order), because they each have thier own adventure! And, her strong female characters rock!!

This is a suspenseful tale involving a forensic sculptor and other characters. It is part mystery/suspense and part supernatural. It doesn't entirely succeed at either though it is an OK read.

This is not one of Iris Johansen's better books. Iwas interesting enough, but the ending was really weak. If you like her writings then this book is good enough but dont expect to much.

"One obsessed killer.....One deadly trap.....One woman's darkest nightmare."

I'm a big fan of Iris Johansen. She knows exactly what her devoted readers want and gives it to them.

Well paced book. Kept my interest. For as long as the book was I had hoped to have gotten a little more from the Dreams of the main character. Oh well.

The cover says "Takes you to the edge of Suspense" and that is what it does. Very well written.
