Francis, Lottie, and Billy have escaped outlaws with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The three must survive in the wild and escape. The three find unexpected treasure in gold and horses. After Francis is bit by a rattlesnake, they live in an Indian village for awhile, and Billy learns tracking, hunting, and bow and arrow shooting. When two robbers attack the camp, Billy is the one to save the day.

This is a continuation of a series, it is book 4 of the Tucket Adventures (1-Mr.Tucket, 2-Call Me Francis Tucket, 3-Tucket's Ride). I started with this one, and felt as if I had started in the middle of a story. A lot of details were not explained and some of the story did not make sense as a result. This was a survival story about Francis Tucket traveling with two children-Lottie and Billy. This is book number four in the series. Tuckett and the kids find gold and then run into two of his old enemies. Paulsen never fails to entertain and keeps you wondering when will this young man get a break.
