J.M. Snyder, thank you for this. I purchased this book based on reviews and a quick summary I read. When I opened it on my Kindle I was disappointed to see how short it was, I thought it was a novel about the life two men shared together. I should have read the details better. My disappointment was short lived. I loved this story.

This short story is not new but it’s worth re-reading or buying now if you’ve somehow missed it. The story is short (4,500 words) but it packs a huge punch. The sweet characters, deep emotion, and aura of resigned sadness make this one of the best short stories I’ve read. Without a hint of explicit sex, this story also is incredibly romantic and moving. At just a few dollars, this is a steal that you must must must read.

Two men are together for more than fifty years, but one of them has a progressive illness who cause him to forget even the more simple things. But a little sign by him will prove that love will be never forgotten.
This is one of the most beatiful short story I have ever read. There is all the elements to make it a wonderful book and they are all packed in few pages. Henry and Jim spent years together and they are happy years, but now Jim is progressively forgotten those moments (probably due to...more

I actually bought Henry and Jim after much consideration. I could tell by the description of the story that it was going to probably be a very sweet, but also a bittersweet story. So I put it off. I kept thinking about it, and I finally took the plunge and bought it last night.
Oh my goodness! It was such a beautiful love story! Henry and Jim have been together for over 50 years. Set up by Henry’s sister on a blind date, both Henry and Jim practically fell in love with one another at first sight....more

"Henry and Jim" is a short story about two men who have been together for over 50 years. We get a chance to see the glimpse of their first meeting, a moment that is remembered, and the present day, where Henry is wondering about his partner, Jim, who starts to suffer from memory loss (I figure it must be Alzheimer). It is amazing that for a short story, it can make me all choked up and teary-eyed. This story is so, so beautiful. It is one that I cherish for a long time, knowing love can actually...more
This was really a short story and not a book, but it was incredible. I would love to know more about Jim and Henry but this short story said so much. Jim and Henry are an aging couple that have been together for many, many years. Jim is battling forgetfulness and Henry is becoming his caregiver remembering times from the early part of their relationship. Aging relationships of any orientation can relate to this sweet, sad, wonderful story.
There are really no words to adequately describe a story as heartfelt and poignant as this one was for me. I was crying after just a couple of pages and that happened a couple more times in the space of this short, but amazing story. Don't let the fear of strong emotion make you pass this one up - it's so worth it!! I know this will be one of those stories that sticks with me for a very long time and will be read again and again... just beautiful!!!
This is a very short but just beautiful story of two men in the twilight of their relationship. Their love shines throughout. The pain of one of them watching his lover of 50 years slowly losing who and what they were to the ravages of age, is clear and vivid. The story is written in lovely, understated prose that makes my heart ache.
Read as part of the GB challenge and recommended to me by AshleyAlexis (thanks!)
It was so refreshing to read about a gay couple who have grown old together but still have that spark that attracted them to each other in the first place. The love and affection between Henry and Jim just burns through the pages.
This short story was totally bitter-sweet but lovely at the same time and made me feel all warm inside. awwwwwwww.
5 stars :)

I was both eager and afraid to read this short story because I still tear up when I think of my grandparents suffering through Alzheimer's after 50+ years of marriage. There is some sadness here, but not as much as I expected knowing the basis of the story. Instead, it was a beautiful celebration of life, and a love that lasted fifty years.
What a brilliant little gem of a short story this is! From the first sentence to the last, it is a tiny bit of perfection.

“If ever the day comes when he wakes beside me and my name doesn't come to his lips, when that bewildered look in his eyes doesn't fade away, I'll remember for us both. I won't let him forget the life we built together. I won't let him go.”
