Wow! What a ride!

Stolen Fury is the story of Dr. Lisa Maxwell, an accomplished archaeologist. Lisa is on a quest to find three ancient Greek artifacts – reliefs of the Three Furies. The book takes us on a chase through Italy, Greece, Chicago, Miami, and the Caribbean. While in Italy, Lisa meets the suave Rafe Sullivan, who woos her and manages to steal one of the Furies. Lisa is furious and enlists her police officer brother Shane’s help in tracking Rafe down. She finds Rafe, confronts him, and then becomes partners with him in order to track down the remaining artifacts.

I really enjoyed the story. It did feel like a female Indiana Jones story, albeit without the whip. The author maintained a good sexual tension between the two main characters. The supporting characters were interesting as well and I understand that the next books will focus on them. The villain was especially deranged and a little bit of a surprise.

At first, I disliked Lisa’s character. I mean, someone drugs her and steals a precious artifact from her, and she travels from Italy to Florida to confront him? On her own? And then partners with him to find the remaining artifacts? Lisa, have you no sense of self preservation? But Lisa’s character grew on me and by the end of the book, I really did like her.

Part of my initial dislike of Lisa’s character was due to her attraction to Rafe Sullivan. Rafe is described as being an Antonio Banderas lookalike. (What’s not to like there?) Rafe is a thief with a conscience and a duty to his family and friends. Rafe really has a difficult time reconciling his need to steal the artifact from Lisa and his attraction for her. Eventually, the attraction does win out and the sparks begin to fly. I liked how the author slowly revealed parts of Rafe’s life and his personality so we could see exactly why Lisa was attracted to him.

I found the book to be a great distraction during this busy holiday season. While I could not believe all that went on in the novel, it was worthy of suspending belief and just enjoying a good read. I’m starting the next novel in the series Stolen Heat today.

(Yeah, right) Lisa is no one's fool, at least not twice, and she figures the only way to beat Rafe at his own game is to at least get into the game. Their new partnership takes them from Florida to Chicago and then to the Bahamas. Lisa and Rafe discover that while they may have teamed up and gotten an edge over the competition, so have a lot of other shady characters. This story has bullets whizzing, bodies dropping like flies, encoded secrets lost in time, and the emergence of three small statues that will change history.

If you like action adventure movies then you will love this book. It's like Fool's Gold, Romancing the Stone, National Treasure, and Into the Blue all rolled into one paperback novel. Rafe is sexy and roguish and has enough hidden depths to make him interesting. Lisa has got quite a past which definitely comes back to haunt her and it allowed Elisabeth Naughton to throw a few curveballs our way in regards to the plot. There are also the requisite sidekicks in Lisa's twin brother Shane and in Rafe's ex-wife who tags along for the ride. I can already sense the raised eyebrows with that little tidbit. There are no romantic entanglements between Rafe and his exwife Hailey and in fact, Hailey and Shane might possibly get it on in a later book in this series.

I really enjoyed this story. Some parts were slow, but when this story got moving, it really moved! The sex in this book was pretty tame. No words that rhymed with rock and no catlike references to female genitalia. Lisa and Rafe are in their late thirties and early forties, which just means that when the bullets were whizzing by they were old enough to know better, but figured what the heck and went for it anyway. The sexual heat between Lisa and Rafe was good but this book's strength definitely lied in it's fun action. Stolen Fury is pure popcorn entertainment complete with a feisty, independent and capable heroine and a handsome, dripping wet sexy rogue, all backdropped against the bright blue Caribbean Sea. There's definitely something for everyone in this fun, fast paced new book by Elisabeth Naughton.(less)

Dr. Lisa Maxwell, is a brilliant archeologist who has uncovered a rare marble carving or ‘relief’ that she thinks may well be one of the original three Greek “Furies”. The origin of the carving is explained in the book so I won’t spoil that with a discussion here. After she excavates the carving in Jamaica she goes to Italy to give a lecture and plans to have her find authenticated. At the closing of her lecture she is ‘rescued’ from an unwanted suitor (not that Lisa needs rescuing from anyone)...more Dr. Lisa Maxwell, is a brilliant archeologist who has uncovered a rare marble carving or ‘relief’ that she thinks may well be one of the original three Greek “Furies”. Little does Lisa know but Mr. Latin Lover is actually Rafe Sullivan and he knows she has the relic and is intent on stealing it. Lisa hasn’t enjoyed male company in a long time so needless to say one thing leads to another. Following a romantic dinner Rafe ends up back at Lisa’s hotel room where he slips her a Mickey Finn. The scene prior Lisa falling into a drugged slumber is quite funny because Rafe gets more or less, so to speak than he bargained for. I couldn’t help but laugh.

Rafe steals the Fury and is long gone when Lisa awakens in the morning with a vicious hangover. When she finds the artifact missing, she is frothing at the mouth angry. This heroine has a nasty temper, a sharp rapier wit, and a mouth to go with,that caused me to bark with laughter. Old Rafe has no idea what he is in for when Lisa tracks him to Florida and promptly reaps vengeance in front of a sweet young thing he is about to entertain on his pretty sailboat moored at a dock in Key West.

Following some rather terse verbal exchanges with respect to Rafe’s actions in the hotel room in Italy, Lisa soon learns she isn’t going to regain possession of the relief, unless she joins forces with the untrustworthy thief. He wants to find the third of the three piece set of marble carvings and knows Dr. Lisa Maxwell is the only one who may be able to help him find it. This sets the stage for a plot that is extremely fast paced and full of twists and turns. The really great thing about this story is that I couldn’t identify who the bad guys were until the near the end of the book.

Rafe Sullivan is a complex character, at first, despite the fact the guy is the epitome of all I find outlandishly attractive in a guy, I decided he did do the heroine dirty after all AND stole from her. So, he therefore needed to be clocked in the chops or something equally painful preferably administered by our heroine. However, Rafe does redeem himself fairly swiftly, I couldn’t, much like Lisa, stay mad at the guy.

Dr. Lisa Maxwell is my favorite kind of heroine, she is smart, feisty, doesn’t give up and is completely comfortable with her sexuality. She is vulnerable and has a secret past linked to the carvings and her previous mentor Doug. I was flipping the pages to find out more about her.

The dialogue in this book is packed full of verbal sparring between these two lovers which is great sport and heightens the sexual tension until it crackles. This isn’t a book that is laden with sex but the intimate scenes sort of sneak up on a reader, very intense and very hot. Their love story is much like a “slow burn” laced with action and near death experiences.

Rafe has a partner, his best friend Peter, who I will say is a good guy and another hottie to boot. Ms. Naughton wrote lots of mystery into the plot surrounding Pete. He is an Antiquities dealer and collector, I’m hoping he is a main character in one of the two sequels which are part of a trilogy of stories.

Lisa’s twin brother Shane also plays a pivotal role in the plot and there is a lot of innuendo surrounding this interesting character as well.

Just when I thought I had the plot of Stolen Fury all figured out, Ms. Naughton would slip in another surprise that confounded me. Or the guy, who I thought was the evildoer turned up dead! I could feel the chills rocketing down my spine as Lisa and Rafe barely escape one scrape after another, then murders start, seemingly following their activities. Their quest to find the third of the missing relic’s with bad guys on their tail is riveting and exciting.

Ms. Naughton has posted an Epilogue to Stolen Fury on her website which is wonderful!

I’m looking forward to the next book in Ms. Naughton’s trilogy, “Stolen Heat”, which will be available in July 2009.(less)

This debut is fabulously original, and I can't wait to read the rest in the series. The treasure hunt kept me intrigued, but the romantic tension kept me up late! Rafe is one of the most unique heroes I have read in a very long time, and I won't soon forget him! I loved the intense attraction between Rafe and Lisa and really enjoyed their banter. The first book in the Stolen Trilogy by Elisabeth Naughton. It wasn't bad. Fast-paced with plenty of action and romance. Not a great fan of the criminal hero/heroine theme and was tempted to give only 3 stars but Ms. Naughton did a good job and it wouldn't be fair of me to lower the rating because I didn't like that element in the story. Also I knew about it going into the book but the rave reviews made me pick it up.

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

I enjoyed this book and its cast of characters very much. In fact I think it is my first Elisabeth Naughton book. I plan to read the rest of the books in this series though I'm a bit skeptical about the amount of repetition and tie-in's with each previous book. Sadly, I've come to expect way way way too much of it but every now and again I am pleasantly surprised and that's what keeps me picking up...more

Great Start For Great Series

Stolen Fury was offered free so I grabbed a copy. After reading the intense sexy romantic suspense, I was hooked and eagerly plunked down $3.99 for the other 2 books in the series.

This book is excellent. I can see why Ms. Naughton was a Double RITA Nominee (Best Romantic Suspense, Best First Book) for Stolen Fury.

I was drawn into the story the moment Lisa and Rafe got to interact, because that was one thing which was really great. I liked Rafe the moment he appeared on the pages and honestly who can resist such a charming thief with good intentions? I guess that's the reason why sometimes was on the fence with Lisa. I don’t read a huge amount of romantic suspense. Not that I don’t like it, I just have loads of historicals and paranormals to get through in the TBR mountain. But thanks to Dorchester Publishing, I’m reading more suspense lately. Christie Craig and Stephanie Rowe are the two I first discovered in their Love Spell line. This first book in her debut series includes it all from heart-pounding action, an intriguing mystery with a murder or two to make things interesting, an independent, take-no-prisoners heroine, a Latino hero to die for, and some hot love scenes between them that scorch the pages. Whatever Dorchester is doing, they’d better keep it up, because authors like these will keep pulling the readers in.

Rafe Sullivan is as slick as they come. He rescues Dr. Lisa Maxwell, archeologist extraordinaire, from an unwelcome fan after her lecture by pretending to be her late date, giving her a kiss that sparks her system, and continues to sweep her off her feet with his accent and charming ways. So much so, in fact, it’s Lisa who continues the seduction in her hotel room later. But things don’t go as far as either of them like. Slick slips her a Mickey and she’s out for the count before either get satisfaction. Rafe finishes his business of relieving Lisa of the second of three mythical Furies she just discovered in Jamaica and, to his regret, leaves her to sleep his handiwork off.

After all she’s gone through to get her hands on the Furies, Lisa is not about to let Slick get away with ripping her off. She has her own sources and quickly finds Rafe at home in Florida, confronts him about his scam and her Fury. What she gets instead is an I-know-shouldn’t-do-this-but-I-have-no-choice invitation to join him in the hunt for the other two Furies, proceeds to be equally split. Her anger with and attraction for the infuriating man will be her undoing, but she sets off on a mysterious and adventurous excursion with a man she never thought she’d be ready for. And getting to know Slick better along the way can’t be good for her.

Finding he needs Dr. Maxwell in more than one way doesn’t sit well with Rafe at first, but she has the knowledge and the information to find the Fury that will finally set him up for life and she has the body that he’d love to get his hands on again. Soon. But when danger begins to follow them on their journey, his need to protect her and keep her safe nearly overrides his hunger for that better life. Together they unravel the puzzle of the Furies as well as the puzzle of who is after both them and their Furies. Finally getting Lisa in his bed is just the icing on the cake.

I really enjoyed these two characters. They’re both independent and stubborn, but as they progressively learn about the other, they put their doubts aside and let their feelings grow, all in the midst of people gunning for them to steal what Rafe and Lisa need for their own personal reasons. It’s really Lisa who has the most enlightenment as we go along in the story. Finding out Rafe is an honest thief, it’s not quite what she imagines and it makes no difference anyway when they make love. They get so lost in each other in those scenes. The secondary characters are well done, especially Lisa’s family. But others, such as Rafe’s ex-wife, are thrown into the mix and lots of fun ensues.

The storyline itself is intriguing and the action only slows down for both you and Rafe and Lisa to catch your breath. Then your heart is tripping and pounding once again as new information is found and they’re on their way to the next clue needed to find the last Fury. Ms. Naughton does a terrific job with this book, it’s a great start to the series. She’s now on my romantic suspense list, and I know I have a lot of good reading ahead of me.

Lisa is a sassy, independent archeologist who has devoted the last fifteen years in search of these three stones. Of course, there are other players in the game and they want those stones, and aren't afraid to get a bit messy in the process. Rafe and Lisa suddenly find themselves on the hunt of their life as they battle unseen foes and race to be the first to find all three stones.

Stolen Fury is comfortingly predictable. There is the typical battle between the two characters as they fight their lust and attraction for eachother. They've both been burned in the past, and are terrified to try again. Then there is the "ah ha" moment, where they finally realize that they can't live without the other. Enter: the bad guy, whose crazy madness and obsession almost gets one character killed. After everything settles down and the evil player is brought to justice, Rafe and Lisa ride off into the sunset living happily ever after. Throw in a car chase and a few close calls with the bad guy's little minions, and you have yourself one good treasure hunt with a side of lusty lovin'.

Stolen Fury is a comfort read, pure and simple. Although, I will hand it to Elisabeth Naughton, she definitely threw me for a loop when she finally let us know who the evil player was. I definitely didn't see that one coming. This book read very similar to Elizabeth Lowell's Pearl Cove (harbor?) series. Which is good for me, since I've read those books a few times. I kinda like them.

And I kinda liked Stolen Fury too. ;-)(less)

Ok for action, adventure and buried treasures, but I wasn’t drawn in emotionally, which is what I want for a romance novel.

On the book’s cover, the story is compared to the movies Indiana Jones and Romancing the Stone - a lot of action scenes with stealing treasure and bad guys chasing good guys. This was a fast and fun read: a good mix between a love story and an adventure/thriller story. A little bit like an Indiana Jones story. I really liked that. I liked the characters and I am looking forward for reading the two other books in this series.

I know I’ve said this before but I don’t read a lot of contemporary romance. Stolen Fury turned out to be such a great treat though I didn’t mind making an exception.

I really liked the premise of this one and the chemistry between Lisa and Rafe made it that much better. Even though there was nothing paranormal about this book, there was plenty of mythology, intrigue and mystery to keep the pages turning. I actually read this one a lot faster than I expected because I just couldn’t put it down.

Das Thema der Jagd nach archäologischen Schätzen hat mich gleich angesprochen. Die Handlung begann schwungvoll, ohne große Vorrede, was sich sehr positiv auf den Lesefluss auswirkt. Von Anfang an ist man als Leser mittendrin, liest voller Spannung Zeile um Zeile, und kann das Buch wirklich nur schwer zur Seite legen.

Die beiden Hauptcharaktere Rafe und Lisa waren mir sofort sympathisch. Beide haben sie ihre Geheimnisse, eine Vergangenheit, an der sie noch heute, Jahre später zu tragen haben. Der Autorin gelingt es wunderbar, die Interaktionen zwischen diesen beiden Persönlichkeiten glaubhaft zu beschreiben. Die häufigen Wortgefechte von Rafe und Lisa sind es auch, die die Stimmung immer wieder auflockern, und dem Leser ein Lächeln auf das Gesicht zaubern.

Die Beziehung der Beiden beginnt mit einem Knall, und Lisa ist sich lange Zeit nicht sicher, ob sie Rafe, der sie ja bestohlen hat, wirklich vertrauen kann. Trotz allem fühlt sie sich zu ihm hingezogen. Auch Rafe kann sich Lisa’s Reizen nicht erwehren. Durch Perspektivwechsel zwischen ihren Hauptpersonen verschafft Naughton dem Leser gekonnt Einblicke in deren Gefühlswelt.

Das Knistern ist fast greifbar, und entlädt sich natürlich irgendwann auf entsprechende Art und Weise. Diesen erotischen Teil beschreibt Naughton wirklich sehr geschmackvoll, und quasi greifbar.

Die Jagd nach den Furien und die Flucht vor den Verfolgern bietet die Rahmenhandlung für die Lovestory, tritt aber nicht allzu sehr in den Hintergrund, sondern sorgt durchweg für Spannung, auch wenn es ruhig noch ein bisschen mehr hätte sein dürfen.

Naughton schreibt wunderbar flüssig und klar, was es einem leicht macht, in der Geschichte zu versinken.

„Gestohlene Rache“ ist ein sehr gelungener Roman, voller Spannung, gewürzt mit einer heißen Liebesgeschichte. Es muss eben nicht immer Paranormal Romance sein. Dieser Serienauftakt ist es definitiv wert, dass man ihm seine Aufmerksamkeit schenkt. Ich zumindest freue mich schon auf den zweiten Band „Gestohlene Liebe„, der im Juni 2011 bei Egmont Lyx erscheint.(less)

Struggled with this one. Not entirely sure why to be honest. The characters were interesting and the story line had enough suspense that it should've drawn me in. Maybe I'm a little tired of the "we like each other first, but now that the truth is out we can't stand each other, but oh, i'm so attracted to you". 3.5 stars. Started off slow, however it did get there. I really enjoyed the later part of the book.
The characters were enjoyable. I loved Lisa's "I earned this" mentality. Boy,did she ever. I am glad she was the adventurous one and that she kept on keeping on.
Rafe was a cheeky adorable thief and I just loved him too. I kept on seeing him in my mind as one of those people that you say "how could you stay mad at that face" about.

I can't say enough good things about this book! I read the first 30 pages and was mildly intrigued but got distracted by a new release from a favorite author and put it down. Damn, if I would have read five more pages I wouldn't have been able to put it down until it was done.

Read it! I promise you won't be disaapointed.

Sexy, tough as nails with a heart of gold hero and a smart, sassy and loveable heroine. It's a suspense kind of story which is not my normal choice but I really enjoyed this one and has opened me up to a new sub-genre of romance.

This was actually pretty good.

The first in a series of books about stolen art & relics. Lisa finds one of three relics only to have it stolen by a super hot guy she spent an evening with in Italy. Luckily her brother the cop tracked him down & she can get her relic back. Unfortunately nothing goes as planned & they have to partner up to find the remaining ones.

This was a free download and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had elements of Sandra Brown, Tami Hoag & Lisa Gardner - it's a fast-paced suspense type book with lots of different characters and two strong leading characters. Both the leading characters have their issues and actually make them a lot more real than many other books that I've read recently. Both of them have lived life and have made mistakes and ultimately have to come to terms with their past lives and accept each other.

On the cover the book was liken to Romancing the Stone and Indiana Jones... I can totally see it!!

Both Lisa and Rafe have intense baggage and scars from the past. Naughton does not lump all the facts in the first couple paragraphs. She gives us little nuggets, little glimpses into Rafe and Lisa's past along the way.

I have to admit that I liked that. Action packed. We visited some vast different places. I had to grin when Chicago has been mentioned. That is one place I have visited.

This was a very good book when it comes to action, suspense and romance.

What I liked most of this book, the heroine Dr. Lisa Maxwell, wasn't some damsel who needed to be saved all the time. She's a woman who knows to defend herself and stood her ground when needed.

The other plus was the hero, Latin lover Rafe Sullivan. Kudos to the author for using all the commonly used Spanish words at the most appropriate moments. I loved how he knew when to save her heroine and when to just let her be. It w...more
