Jotham's Journey: A Storybook for Advent
In this widely popular, exciting story for the advent season, readers follow ten-year-old Jotham across Israel as he searches for his family. This is one of the very best advent books that my family has ever read together. We are on the edge of our seats each day just ready to hear the next portion of the story. It is historical fiction at its best with an account of the Christmas story from the Bible being shared. What is also an added plus is the devotion that accompanies each day's reading. The devotion aspect of the book is extremely well done with thoughtful scriptures that coincide well with what we have just read for the day. T...more
This is an EXCELLENT book to read during advent season. It weaves historical info. from the Biblical account of Christ's birth into a suspenseful story. My children always begged for more! I'd say this is great for early elem. (1st/2nd grade) on up through middle school (because it's such an interesting story). We loved it!
This book was written by the father of one of my best friends. It's a story to be read in conjunction with Advent. I really enjoyed it when I was younger and I'm looking forward to reading it with my kids when they get just a bit older.
We read this book last year for Advent, and it is very good. You read one chapter a day, and after each story there is a short lesson. The end of the chapter often leaves you in suspense:)
A wise, godly woman at our church reads these books to her kids every advent (alternating years between Jotham, Tabitha, and Bartholomew). I aspire to be like her so ordered them all immediately. We are about halfway through Jotham and loving it! It is a little more geared toward kids older than mine but they are still enjoying it.
Not for the faint of heart (meaning very young children) but very good. I read it aloud over Christmas and worried that it was too intense for Marissa. Advent Book.
This is our 4th or 5th year reading Arnold Ytreeide's Advent books. Although we have read all three, Jotham is still the favorite among my children.
An advent story to read each night leading up to Christmas. I really enjoyed it and can't wait until Chase is old enough to enjoy it with me. Fun, educational, and kept me focused on the real reason for the holiday season.
someone recommended this to me to read during advent. Going to look for it at the library
We read this at advent
Great Advent book for older kids (my 9 year old is enjoying it a lot, my 6 year old enjoys it, but at times I feel it is a little to violent for his age - bothers me more than him though:>). It ends each days reading with a message about hope, honesty, telling the truth, or accepting responsibilty, and of course focuses on the true reason for Christmas.
A very entertaining story for Advent. It was so hard to read only one chapter per night. Almost every chapter ended in a cliff hanger and the kids were just dying to read more. They were very excited when they made connections from Jotham's story and Bible stories they are familiar with. We will be reading again!
Our family is reading this story for Advent in preparation for Christmas. We read a chapter a night. It's well written and entertaining.
My kids would beg me to read more, that is always a good sign!
This is a family favorite!
