Well, Jake and Ellie are unfortunately starting to cross a line as far as I’m concerned. Ellie had a baby about two books ago and now when they investigate the next town murder in the new book, they are carting around little Leonora. How stupid is this. Not only are they in danger of becoming TSTL cozy heroines, they are endangering a young child. Even when little Leonora isn’t with them, what is Ellie thinking? Does she want to leave her baby without a mother, if they get in a situation t...more

I enjoyed this one but not as much as the previous ones. And I find the tool hints irritating. Like telling me what I need in a tool bag. I may not have everything I need in my tool bag but I certainly have the rudimentary things.

Also, Jake and Ellie's reputation is getting around. No one wants to talk to the snoopy ladies.

I'm interested to see if the future books in this series continue on the downward slope or if this was a temporary lag.

How do I always manage to read the last book in a series first? A friend gave me this book and thought I'd enjoy it because it deals with home improvement, takes place in Maine, and is a mystery. Definitely a good, quick "beach read" (which, coincidentally, is where I read it). The plot and characters will probably make more sense to me when I read the other books (in order).

I listened to this one in the car. It took me a little while to get into the story, but eventually I did. It's my first of this series. Wonder if I would've gotten into the story sooner if I'd read earlier books in the series first.

This book in the series was a little less interesting, and I felt it went a little too much into the excessive cleaning of the housekeeper who helps out Jake, but it did have a good tip on fixing a hairline plaster crack!

I tried to listen to this on audio, but, like Diane Mott Davidson, it seems that these are meant to be read, not read to you. Typical cozy mystery with local flavor - enjoyable, mostly forgettable.

Sarah Graves lives with her husband John, a musician and luthier, and their black Labrador Retriever in a house very much like the one Jacobia Tiptree is remodeling in Eastport, Maine. When she's not writing Jake's adventures, Sarah works with her husband on the house and she plays the 5-string banjo.
