Barnes & Noble asked me to write a review of this nook book, as well as three others. Classed as Romantic Adventure, it was better than I thought that it would be. There is lots of action. The heroes, Cassidy Lowell--a zoologist--and Captain Jake Anderson of some military unit called Black Stripe keep getting bopped over and over again, but survive. There are two scientists who have developed a mutant strain of parvo which affects humans as well as animals, and there is a nefarious group whi...more
This book had everything I like in a good action movie. There was suspense, mystery, thrilling action sequences, pretty people and a lovely romance. OK, the romance got a little sappy at times and the amount of sexual tension nearly killed me, but fiction is fiction. :) The hero was also a bit too heroic, but, again, it's nice to dream. The plot was not bad although I think the book could have been shorter without too much trouble. I enjoyed the sequences that took place in Yellowstone, but worr...more
I really wanted to like this book. I read the 30 page preview (https://www.libboo.com/read/dragon-da...) and it really drew me in. The ideas were new and interesting, the writing was well done and the mystery intriguing. Everything the beginning of a book should be. The problem is, it never seems to go anywhere. There is a threat, an obstacle to be overcome, in fact there are three that I can think of off the top of my head, but they never seem to become any more threatening. The book moves alon...more
This book belong in the section with those books that portrays a shirtless masculine male with long hair swaying in the wind looking into a broken window with the title being called broken connection. then this book would a 5 star reader and would be on the top romance book list of all time but since its catalog in another genre this book fail to be worthy of being in the bottom of a clearance bin at the dollar store.
Ps: I cursed silently and bit my bottom lip first page till the end.

I really liked the 2 main characters and it was an exciting and intriguing plot. The various points of view worked for me (including understandin the reasoning and flaws of the guy who created the virus or whatever it was) I admit I skimmed some of the scientific explanations. Oddly enough they only thing I didn't like is that it seemed to go on a little too long. Somehow toward last 3rd, I lost the sense of urgency. I did like the grand finale though. I will be interested in reading the next on...more
A zoologist working in Nigeria to determine the impact of oil drilling in the region is targeted for assassination by an oil company. She and some undercover military officers run around trying to figure out what she knows that would make the oil company want her dead. A good action book that made me think of the last James Bond movie.
This book was definitely attention-holding! It's a fantasy/romance book. (WARNING, my VERY conservative friends, there are some steamy parts! But I didn't think it was the spiciest story I'd ever read!) I love the fantasy aspect of the story, and the mystery that surrounds the legend of the dragons. The characters are easy to relate to, and Simone, the main character, doesn't bow down to the challenges she is presented with. (She's no Bella!) She faces them head on, with stubbornness and tenacit...more
Devil's Gold is an enjoyable eco-thriller that takes the reader from the Niger Delta to Yellowstone National Park. The novel follows a zoologist, Dr. Cassidy Lowell, as she tries to find the answer as to why wolves are dying. Julie Korzenka does a great job of integrating interesting facts about Yellowstone and its unique ecosystem into the overall story.
