One might ask why I keep reading this series when I find them so disappointing. I suppose that it is a combination of hope and morbid fascination. I keep thinking that Nimmo might do a better job, that her skills at style and plot might develop. Though they don't (the first book in this series was the best), I keep coming back out of a sad astonishment that these books are intended for 9 to 12-year olds, the same range as Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. While Rowling has her own writing d...more

This book is a continuation of the series, Charlie Bone. I thought that this book was a great extension of the series, and really is a captivating read.
Charlie Bone is faced with new troubles as a new endowed student is introduced to Bloor's Academy. This new student, Dagbert Endless, puts pressure on Charlie's long-term friendships and creates havoc in the town.
However, something else is bothering Charlie. Asa Pike, the werewolf, is discovered to be missing, and the adventure begins a...more

Life should be perfect for Charlie now that his parents have been reunited. But mystery and adventure always find him. This time Asa, a fellow classmate who changes into a beast at dusk, and Charlie's sometime-enemy, is missing. His parents seek out Charlie for help. It's been too long since I read the first five Charlie Bone books, and I can't remember enough. I didn't really like the books well enough to read them all again. But what I do like about these books is the creepy atmosphere. And what makes it even more creepy is the fact that several of the kids are really, really bad. Also, I think some of the children's endowments are pretty cool. I like Fidelio, Olivia, Emma, Paton, Tancred, and Lysander. Charlie has some pretty cool friends.

Despite the fact that these are blatant Harry Potter rip-offs, I'm actually kind of glad that Nimmo has continued the series even though Charlie's found his father. This one was quite satisfying... the legend of the Red King keeps getting more complex and the characters more interesting. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

I love Charlie Bone. I think it is a fun idea. I love how all the kids have different powers -- ones that are sometimes not at all helpful and other times are the exact key to solving their dilemma. It's about working together -- exaggerated so we can see. Besides, I love old castles and boarding schools.

Anticlimactic. That describes the whole book. It's book six in a series that should have ended at 5. I'd give a rating of 3.5 to the series as a whole. It's kind of Harry Potter-ish, but not as good. However, it is written on a lower reading level, which is better for many of my students.

I'm listening to this series. It's a good series, for those who miss Harry Potter. However, the narrator is different than the first five. Why, oh why do publishers do that! Not bad, but felt like it was setting the stage, not much happened. But it was fun to go back to Charlie's world.

Really am enjoying this series. Certainly reminicent of Harry Potter, but I think I may like this series a little better. Also reminds me of the TV show "Heroes" with the different endowments and how they discover them and find out how best to use them.

And the saga continues... even though Charlie found both the Red King and long lost Mr. Bone in the last book. Two more endowed children are introduced and we find out what happened to Asa, aka "the beast", after he switched sides.

This is a good book for those who lack any sophistication. It is too easy to read, it doesn't have a good plotline and in other words it isn't really a very exciting book.It doesn't develop its characters well.

I liked this book MUCH better than the last Charlie Bone book. And I have a feeling there's going to be more...
I'm wondering if she's doing a 10 book series...one for each of the Red King's children?

These are fun, entertaining books definitely targeted at a younger audience. Nimmo's style of writing is quite simple and never quite fully developed, but she does introduce interesting characters.

What can I say, I really like the Charlie Bone series. I think they are great reads for the younger crowds who are not quite old enough to read Harry Potter. Not nearly as scary but a quick read!

This is the last book in the series. I really enjoyed all the fun powers that the children have. And of course, good always wins over evil!!

At book six, I still enjoy this series. All the different talents that the youth have are quite interesting. Some useful, some not.
