I like the Travelers' Tales series. I have read the other Travelers Tales books on Hong Kong, Central America, and Food. Those were awesome.

This one was harder to get through.

However, there were some chapters I did enjoy. There were 2 chapters on Mexico City that were really great. One chapter focused on the Children's Museum in Mexico City. I kept this book in my bag for about three months during the winter of 2000 when I had the romantic notion that my boyfriend (at the time) and I would be travelling through Mexico together that coming summer. For three lovely months the various stories and wonderfully descriptive experiences of the authors danced around my head and enabled me to daydream in between seminars about the summer to come. The bf & I broke up and I went to Chile instead /// but it was a really good read.
Not as good, in my case, as this series' edition on Spain, but living right next to Mexico makes it difficult to simply read and take it all in -- too many personal observations get in the way.

I'm sure that it's a great read for many other people, and some stories did standout quite noticeably.
Great book of wide-ranging travel essays on Mexico. I read some while we were in Mexico City and then pulled it back out this winter when I went to the beach. Lots of topics and geographical areas are covered, and it gave me some new places I really want to visit.

A series of short stories from mostly Americans traveling in Mexico. It really makes you want to visit some of the wonderful places talked about in the book.

There's a great tip in here about waggling your finger warningly to ward off beggars. It really works, and not just in Mexico!

James O'Reilly has been a traveler since infancy, and a storyteller almost as long. Born in Oxford, England, in 1953, he savors the early memory of walking as a five-year-old boy across the tarmac at Shannon Airport in Ireland and gazing up at the huge triple tails of the now-defunct Constellation aircraft. The smell of fuel and Irish fog and the amazing sight above him must have made a deep impre ...more
