Very funny - Babymouse is a complex, likeable character, part adventure-seeker, part brat, part dreamer. Her drifting back and forth from dreams to awkward reality creates the most laughs, but the omnipresent voice of warning is pretty funny, too, especially when Babymouse talks back to it. Hilarious depictions of fellow students, each a very different creature (think bar scene in the first Star Wars).

1.) Genre- Graphic Novel

2.) Summary- After everything goes wrong with her family's beach vacation, Baby Mouse learns that sometimes the person you want to hang out with the least can actually make all the difference.

3.)a.) Area of focus- Illustrations

3.)b.) Holm uses simplistic illustrations in bold colors to clearly describe the scenes in this graphic novel.

3.)c.) All of the pictures in Baby Mouse are drawn in shades of pink, white, and black. This helps to simplify the illustrations and makes...more

Comics generally appeal to boys more so than girls, however Babymouse is geared more for girls. A lot of the time comics have a lot going on on each page or even in each frame, but in Babymouse, it is not terribly busy and there are not a lot of words, mainly dialogue so it is a lot easier to follow than some of the other comics I have been exposed to. In this book, it is the last day of school and Babymouse is very excited for school to be over so her family can go on their vacation. It is anno...more

This book was very different than I thought it was going to be. When I first picked it up it seemed that it was going to be a chapter book because it was not very thin, but had some thickness to it. But when I opened it I realized that it was in what I would say a comic formation. On every page was a different picture that somewhat resembled a comic to me, with little blurbs explaining what Babymouse was doing or thinking. I really enjoyed reading this. This is because it was very entertaining a...more

I liked this book very very much! I thought that it was very cute and very readable for younger girls, possibly boys. This particular one was kind of in a comic format because on every other page, things were being described through pictures. I think it is a very interesting way to present literature to children.

Geared for little learners in the form of silly fun. The little mouse-girl, obsessed with her daydreams is always dreaming of an heroic act, and being startled back into reality by some jolt. She moves fast, talks fast and is a little drama queen! With her bent whiskers, she runs hither and froth trying to get away from her little mouse brother who always wants to play. It was surprising to know that all the copies of Babymouse were taken in the 3 libraries that were within the area I lived. Luckily, I was able to get this graphic novel Babymouse: Beach Babe. First of all, the title made me giggle. I thought it was cute. I then read the inside note from the author and became very interested in wanting to know what would happen to Babymouse Beach Babe. Beach Babe was in for a great summer experience. This graphic novel was very humorous. It was an easy read. I t...more

This is the third book in the Babymouse series by Jennifer L. Holm and Matthew Holm. The plot centers on Babymouse trying to learn to surf and dealing with her pesky younger brother.

Our youngest really likes these books. They are quick reads and she's read two of these books in the last couple of days. I'm sure that we'll quickly read through this series.

The Babymouse series is wildly popular with tween girls, and I can certainly see why. For one thing, Babymouse sounds exactly like an twelve year old girl. There is a frenetic quality to the way that she talks, and bright pink, stars, hearts, and extra exclamation points are all there, often to almost eye-searing effect. However, these books are cute, engaging, and tell a story. They also address the issues that young girls everywhere face, from frizzy hair (or whiskers ;) ), bullies, pesky sibl...more

The series keeps getting better and better! In installment #3, Babymouse weathers the last day of school and heads out to the beach for vacation. In this story, Babymouse learns the meaning of family and friendship. Very tender moments to be had. My favorite part? When Babymouse gets impatient in the car on the way to the beach. She has a fantasy that she's a professor in Africa and Squeak, her brother, is Tarzan. Squeak grabs her whiskers and says "Why whiskers messy?" First, sooo funny!! Secon...more

this graphic novel is great for kids! I think that this novel is geared more towards girls which i think is a good thing because most girls think that comic books are for boys only. I think that it is a fun story that has a good lesson in it. Going away with the family can always be hard on the kids because they don't have their friends to play with and babymouse feels the same way. she doesn't want to play with her brother but finds out that maybe he can be more fun then she thought.

In this story Babymouse takes a trip with her family to the beach. Babymouse is only interested in surfing and her personal adventures, and so she ignores her little brother who wants to play with her. She learns great lessons, like how to use her imagination to entertain herself. She also learns the importance of family when she finds that her little brother is gone and she sets out to find him, realizing how much she loved him after all.

My daughter (age 6) loves the graphic novel BABYMOUSE series... They're aimed at older readers, but they are adorable and fun for younger kids too, either as a more challenging learn-to-read book or a read-aloud. These books are both funny and sweet. (And don't tell boys they're only for girls; my older son read several and found them entertaining.)

When its the last day of school and Babymouse finally go on a dream vacation. She finds out that she has nothing to do and she has nobody to play with but what she doesn't realize is that she had someone to play with along. And when she see that her brother wanted to play with her,she goes and make a change.

In this graphic series, Babymouse hits the sand and surf on a summer vacation with her family. Surfing, sandcastles, boardwalk rides, and sunburn fill her vacation with ups and downs. This is a quick and fun summer read with minimal text and great illustrations.

Who does not love Babymouse? My class loves Babymouse. Caleb loves Babymouse, I love Babymouse.

This is one of my favorites. I got to read it the other day to Caleb while he was getting a nebulizer treatment. He always picks Babymouse because they are so long... His favorite is Camp Babymouse because he thinks it reflects actual camp and he is studying all the details for this summer when he gets to go!

Anyway, what I love about this one... They go on vacation, and Babymouse is so eager to try eve...more

This type of book is most definatly for younger readers. These graphic novels were recommended to me so I thought I would try them. But now that I think about it,I'm pretty sure these were recommended to me in about 4th or 5th grade.

Yet again Babymouse is endearing and SO funny! I particularly liked this book because she learns the value of having a little brother! My daughter ran and hugged her little brother at the end of the book! Thanks Babymouse!

Everyone who likes the beach knows the feeling that you're a super swimmer, a secret Aquaman. Bmouse dreams she's the best on the beach just like the rest of us. Good story but the art isn't too hot.
Sarah Sammis
Babymouse and baby brother Squeak (and presumably parents) go to the beach. Surfing, sandcastle building, sunburns, snorkeling, collecting sea shells and finally learning to do things together.
Angela Williams
This graphic book uses pink, gray, white, and black comics to tell the story of BabyMouse. The text short and medium size font reflects the images. Children will enjoy the comic style and adventure of going to the beach.

Social Studies/History

Lesson idea: Have the students research local beaches and tell why they would want to go there.

Adorable! I love how she learns how to be a good big sister.

Also- cleaning out her locker and finding Tut's sarcophagus, aliens, and Bigfoot? Priceless.
Cynthia
I love that Babymouse had so much stuff in her locker---especially the "troublesome gnomes". It was a sweet ending about family! Babymouse always makes me smile.
Ada Colon
babymouse has so much fun at the beach that she forgets where her baby brother goes. She finds him and they enjoy the rest of the day together.
Jessica
Cute little book! Can't wait for Kory to read this so we can talk about how she and her brother ended up having such fun together!
Angie
Ahhh ... the "joys" of family vacations and little brothers (I have three!). Can't live with 'em, but even more so can't live without 'em.
Sherry
Loved this! Now if I could only convince my daughter that her little brother is just like Squeak!
Jennie
School’s out for the summer and Babymouse and her family are off to the beach. Babymouse goes surfing, gets sunburned, goes snorkeling, builds an awesome sandcastle, and rides the bumper cars on the boardwalk. She’s having lots of fun, but she wishes that she had someone cool to play with. Babymouse learns that sometimes friends come in weird places.

Probably my least favorite of the Babymouse series, this still features the best parts about Babymouse-- crazy fantasy/daydream sequences and caust...more
