That lunchtime, all the women at work were talking about Princess Daisy, so I thought: what the hell, I'll read it. Some kind person lent me her copy. It's a strange book. The story-line and the characters are a ridiculous mishmash of stock elements, haphazardly spliced together: a playboy father, a beautiful mother, a cruel half-brother who incestuously rapes her, a brain-damaged younger sister she has to take care of. People keep falling in love, getting tragically killed, losing their money i

Most of this book reads like a flash back, and it's quite disconcerting. In the first chapter, we meet 23-year-old Daisy setting up a shoot for a commercial. A few paragraphs later, her parents are posing with Infant Daisy for Life magazine. The second chapter begins to describe how Daisy's parents met, then rather abruptly skips back again in time to explain both of their childhoods. The book proceeds loosely chronologically from there, but even in 495 pages, that's a lot of time to cover. Ther

I was 13 when I borrowed this book from the library and I was totally bowled over by how different it was from the other books I had read till then. The rich and opulent lifestyles of the characters, the sex scenes, the whimsical dialogues, the rape scene, and oh, let's not forget that lesbian scene as well. In short it blew my mind and I found myself knowing more than I ever wanted to know. Too much, actually.

Read this one a long, LONG, time ago when I was a teenager. Its a good book for a teenager who wants very little meat to their book, but a lot of juicy. Like a lite beer, no calories & less filling.
I will say that I remember this book, its characters, settings, and plot like the day I first read it. That stands to reason Judith Krantz is a good writer, it does stick with you when you've read it.
I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a good mental read. If you w More...

A book a long time in my collection of undetermined source. Krantz's fictitious version of a princess in America, supposedly inspired by the story of Grace Kelly. About two thirds through this book I had yet to find a character with whom I could identify — all royalty and/or extremely wealthy and powerful. It contained, however, one of the best written seduction scenes I've ever read, and, I have to admit, I shed a couple of tears during the last few pages. I enjoyed it enough to add the author'

I had already read and enjoyed Mistral's Daughter on an earlier college winter break, so I figured this would be a good one to accompany me on a transatlantic flight in 1988. I picked it up at the used bookstore in Tallahassee (I can tell by the stamp inside). I was flying to meet my parents in England as a college graduation present--I had already spent a semester in London in 1986. This was, indeed, the perfect companion on the flight, but I don't remember a whole lot about it.

the preview of the book is good.. but it is so different sa laman.. dinescribe c daisy as someone all envied, mayaman, maganda, etc, then suddenly it was stripped and she begins with nothing but a dark secret. the story is not that.. she grew up poor until her mom died from freak accident and she lives with her retatrded twinsister. then her father took her and then she become rich again.. shes a real princess.. i cried in this book. especially how daisy took care of her twinsister when she does

It was a good book and a good miniseries with Lindsay Wager, Stacy Keech, Robert Urich. A movie star marries an exiled Russian Prince. They have twin daughters, but when he sees that one of this is mentally retarded, he institutionalizes her and tells the mother that she died. When she later discovers that he lied to her, she leaves him and moves back to the states. She is killed and the twins are returned to Europe where he once again separates them. The movie scene of the separation was wrenc

Though at times overwhelmingly trashy, this book isn't all bad. It occupies that middle ground between romance novels and actual literature.
Be prepared to know exactly what everyone is wearing at all times and don't expect anyone to make less than an embarrassing amount of money with the exception of our tragically impoverished heroine who only comes from old money and moves in moneyed circles, but doesn't have any herself.

I read this a long time ago when I was a teenager. To be honest I can't remember a lot about it, except that it involved money, rich people, posh places, play boys etc. I liked it at the time. My older self likes different books so perhaps my view would change if I reread it.

Rob the book of its letters? Well, that's too much to say, but I read it so many times that I came close.
I bought it many years ago and I liked it. What the story is about, you can find in the synopsis, I won't repeat that. But the story itself was new, a romantic story from a different angle. How twin sisters can be so very different, how one pays the price for keeping a secret that there's two sisters and not one. How the one that's visible struggles and how finally the thruth comes out. Yes. This is a totally cheesy book. I found it in a library on vacation when I was like 17 and I loved it. LOVED it. I love to reread it. It is the perfect combo of romance, cheese and hilarity. Great for a summer read, not great for an in depth conversation.

My foster sister Mary recommended this book -- in an attempt to get me away from horror, fantasy and sci fi novels. In recent years, as revenge, I've gotten her hooked on paranormal romance novels -- like Sherrilyn Kenyon. Sweet Revenge!
I was in the 10th grade and she dared me to actually finish this book, so I started reading it. I encountered a highly detailed lesbian encounter while reading after a test in Geometry. I turned about scarlet red; the guy who sat behing me recomme More...

I remember thinking this book was pretty sad. I was also very angry with her father. This book deals with some subjuct matter that seemed a little risque for its time, to me,but perhaps not. I was a teeneager after all.

The best thing about this book was reading it on a beach near Chania, Crete, when I was there in 1981. As I recall, it was fun and sexy. So was Greece.

we women must learn how to be strong. despite the obstacles we're going through, we must be motivated and must pursue always to reach our goals.

a really sweet story. I think Judith Krantz manages to balance a strong, yet vulnerable heroine with believability...another favorite story of mine.

Just re-read after at least 10 years. I still love it. It reads as pretty dated since it was published in 1978 but that doesn't bother me.

Loved this book as a teenager. Anything that was written in the 80s and was an epic saga pretty much gets a thumbs up from me!

Creampuff contemporary romance novel full of family secrets, too beautiful heroine and plenty of scenery chewing. Still fun, however.

Princess Daisy faced odds that would have finished a lesser person. I learned a lot from her courage. I was in my teens when I read this.

Light reading but entralling and very entertaining, a very nice and enjoyable writing style makes this a quick read.

Excellent story and great characters!
Tiny bit dated about attitudes towards gay and lesbians, but that is what it is.

Wonderful story, terribly indulgent but a great fall back read for when life needs a lift.

What a pile of trashy junk. Thank goodness my taste has developed and my patience has waned.

I'm ashamed to say this Lifetime movie of a novel kept me hooked until the last page.
