Petey and Pussy, John Kerschbaum’s new graphic novel, reads very much like a Looney Tunes cartoon—if all of the anthropomorphic animals were kvetching, balding, foul-mouthed misanthropes. Each character is articulate (and, in fact, can speak directly to humans, well enough to order a beer) but still recognizably have the traits associated with their respective species: Pet ...more

Okay, so in full disclosure I'll own up to two salient facts regarding this book before I review it here:

1) John Kerschbaum is a friend of mine.
2) I blurbed this book.

But here's the more important thing: this book is one of the great graphic novels of this or any time. Okay, that's a bit hyperbolic, but it doesn't mean it isn't true. I love Kerschbaum's work. I love the way he draws but more to the point his work makes me laugh. And not a polite little "tee-hee." I mean out-loud guffaws that so

The humor in this graphic novel was far too crass for me. There wasn't even a single moment where I actually laughed, so I don't even know if you could even call this humor.

The illustrations reminded me somewhat of "Ren & Stimpy," but I would say at least "Ren & Stimpy" could evoke a smile or a chuckle sometimes.

What attracted me to the book was the idea of a cat, dog, and bird all with a man's head getting into trouble and wreaking havoc in an old senile woman's apartment. That to me so

When I read the 1st Petey & Pussy comic, I laughed for weeks. Also, I cringed for weeks. Even now, years later, some of the lines can make me laugh, so when I saw that a book was coming out, a book that contained not only the original Petey & Pussy comic, but a wealth of new material, I jumped on it like Oscar Wilde on a towel boy.

Because...DAMN...this stuff is funny. Petey and Pussy are both hilarious, but it's poor Bernie the bird that steals the show. Kerschbaum's art is beautiful, a

Wild antics from an odd-couple duo of man/cat and man/dog and their madcap associates--a suicidal budgie, drunken caretaker, and criminal bar tender.

OK, so they're a cat and dog with human heads. Pussy looks like Richard Deacon, and Petey is obviously some hybrid of Tim Conway and Don Rickles. They like to drink at the local bar, then go harass Pussy's owner, a clueless old boozing crone. Adventures include assisting the caged bird Bernie's suicide wishes, recovering Pussy's eyeglasses from a sewer, cutting deals with mice, and bisecting a snake (to recover Bernie). Very vulgar and hilarious. Highly recommended for fans of Maakies.

If you thought Ren & Stimpy were ugly, wait until you get an eyeful of Petey & Pussy, a dog-and-cat duo who sport the heads of bald, middle-aged men.

Lots of gross-out humor--imagine an R-rated version of Nickelodeon's famous canine and feline.

This was just a miserable excuse for a graphic novel. For my full review, follow the url below:

Cat, dog and bird with human heads and personalities co-exist, but only barely. Power plays, black humor, and an incredible amount of insanity--I loved it!
