I enjoyed the book mostly because I watched the TV show as a child. Frank Barnes lived behind my husband's family. His dog, J.R. once jumped the fence and cornered my brother in law when he was a boy and my husband had to go for help to rescue Glen. Mr. Barnes use to talk across the fence to my husband's family and tell them about the Rin Tin Tin TV show. Having his personel connection to the story, made the story more interesting. My father-in-law worked in the movies on the Lassie movie for on ...more
A very interesting story with unusual characters, and it's all true, not fiction. I remember the TV series RinTinTin but never saw the movies. How the main character found the puppy during WWII and how the dog changed the life of a mentally paralized man makes for a good read. It took the author 10 years of research and writing to bring this story to light, I give her kudos for sticking with it. A story worth reading.
I won this from Goodreads and just now got to read it. I wish I could give 2 1/2 stars. I think if I'd I had been a boy who watched Rin Tin Tin I would have loved this book. I enjoyed the beginning and the end, the middle just dragged for me. Gor for it if you really loved the TV show.
