greg brought this up to me last week, and i don't know how i have missed it all these years!! this book has a message i can stand behind.

initially, it goes into the ways that animals in clothing is impractical because of the nature of animals' bodies and the limitations of human clothing to stay on or enhance those animals, but then it ends with the most convincing point: animals in clothing is just plain embarrassing! to them and to us.poor animals, why do people try to steal your dignity by pu

This was one of my favorite books as a kid. The pictures cracked me up.

As a parent, I still enjoy it. But I don't know how much re-readability it has. If you're not in a position to run around buying a ton of books for your kids, you might want to grab it from the library rather than make it part of your permanent collection.

Some animals shouldn't wear clothing. Some animals, like my dad, only wear rubber boots and boxer shorts to get the mail in December. At least he's wearing something these days . . . he used to live by this book like it was the bible when we were kids.

My first impulse upon reading this book was to throw it into the failing septic tank in the back yard. Fuck any book that tries to tell me what to do, unless it is a book by Tony Robbins. He has hypnotizing teeth and tells you to tap into your inne

Years ago I cut up a tattered copy of this picture book and mounted it to 12x12 squares of cardstock. Animals wearing clothes is a silly concept and as such worked well with the story time "silly circus" theme. One of the animals pictured is a giraffe wearing seven neckties, which served as a "tie-in" to this week's craft in which we made funny clown ties using cardstock, stickers, and ribbon.

The craft was inspired by a photograph in an old issue of Sesame Street Magazine. A boy is pictured wear

Judi Barrett's story is a plot-less story that describes why different animals should not wear clothing. The illustrations, done by Ron Barrett, have an enhancing relationship with the text. The humor of the story is amplified through the illustrations. The illustrations show the animal that corresponds to the accompanying text, on a full-white background. Some animals are done in color, while others are not; however all the clothes are colorful. The illustrator uses crosshatching to show textur ...more

This was one of my personal favorites growing up. This book would be great for beginning readers because the text is simple and it’s informative as well; it demonstrates unique characteristics of animals. The book guides the reader through hilarious explanations why animals shouldn’t wear clothes. My favorite is, “it might be very embarrassing for an elephant. The picture shows an elephant wearing a floral dress and hat while staring at a woman wearing an identical outfit. It’s a cute and fun re ...more

This book presents a witty look at what it would be like if animals attempted to wear human clothes. The illustrations and ideas are understandable to young children but humorous enough to entertain older ones. Each page pictures a different animal in an article of clothing that manifestly does not work (one of the funniest is the hen wearing pants, with an egg caught inside). The sense of absurdity in this book will delight and cultivate a wonderful kind of humor.

This is a funny story. It is a great book for kids to read because it is entertaining and it also introduces rhyming and other early literacy skills to children. This book is good to read when you are spending one on one time with a student, quality time with your own child(ren), and reading to your class.

A good mentor text for persuasive writing with younger students, and a highly entertaining book. I read it to my 3 1/2 month old nephew. I think his foot kicking was a sign of approval.

I don't know if you've had the experience of reading a kids picture book and actually cracking up, but this one does it for me. Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing is a lesser-known title by the same duo that created the runaway bestseller Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, which was the basis for the box-office sensation movie series by the same name.

It's a board book, so your mind thinks "toddler-level," but it's actually pretty sophisticated humor.

Each spread is a different example of

I grappled with the rating on this book. This is a plotless book in which each page is basically a list of why animals shouldn't wear clothing. But its simple big bold text, situated on a page of its own, compliments the art with comedic timing that makes this a hilarious read. The illustrations are unique in that it is sketched with black ink. Patches of colors in hues of red, green and brown accentuate the clothing of the [almost black and white] animals. The illustrations are quite funny. I g ...more

Animals Should Definately Not Wear Clothing is definately appropriate for those children who are being introduced to picture books. The whole concept the this book is very humerous and allows the reader to take a closer look at each animal's characteristics by the tpye of clothing they are wearing. Students will be able to see that all in all clothes are not meant to be worn by animals for many reasons. The overall display of the book is without a doubt very appealing by the color choice Ron Bar ...more

Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing by Judi Barrett is a seemingly silly and fun book for young readers. Just from looking at the cover of this picture book, I knew that I would have a few giggles while I read along. Whether it was an opossum wearing his shirt upside down, to a billy goat eating his pants, this book had it all.
Although the book is quite humorous, it is evolving great sentence structure for your kids. Every time I flipped a page, I would remember "animals should definit
I love Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing. Each page begins with "because" and a reason why a specific animal should not wear clothing. The pages are often very funny and many of them offer opportunities for discussion -- simply asking the child, "Why shouldn't this chicken wear pants?" should suffice. The kids will love pointing out different parts of the illustration and coming up with their own reasons.

I could also see accompanying this book with a discussion of when animals should

This is a very funny story and I could see children really enjoying it. This story talks about reasons animals shouldn't wear clothes. For example, it says that opossums might wear their shirts upside-down because they hang upside-down from trees. It also shows a camel wearing hats on its humps. This story could be used to spark some creativity and imagination amongst students in first or second grade. The students could come up with some of their own reasons why animals shouldn't wear clothing ...more

Judi and Ron Barret did a marvelous in creating this funny and adorable story. The title matches exactly what is happening in the story and it progresses from one animal wearing clothing to the next. The illustrations contain a picture on one side in the middle of the page with lots of white space and on the other page is the large fonted tex ...more

Although I'd have to argue that my puppy happens to love his sweater, I enjoyed this book. The cover seemed to be a bit of a bore at first, but the bright colors and big bold lettering really drew me in. I enjoyed the smaller illustrations all with their own shadows and the great amount of white space that served as a large frame for them. I liked the smaller pictures because it helped me to focus on exactly what was going on in them. The content wasn't AS exciting as the typography and illustra ...more

I really enjoyed this book. The author of this book is Judi Barrett and her husband, Ron Barrett, is the illustrator. Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing is their second book written together. This book is made in a landscape shape. Each page with text is backed with a brightly colored page. The illustrations, however, have a white background. T ...more

This is a cute book that can be used to teach inferences instead of spelling everything out. Kids get to explain WHY a porcupine shouldn't wear clothing-- and the pictures are pretty funny! The kids responded well to the reading (my teammate read this one aloud), and then I used a knock-off activity called "Animals Should Definitely Not Borrow Library Books," and we came up with reasons why, as well as goin

"Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing" is a cute book, that is very easy to read and only has a few words on each page. The book has no plot, it is just a short book for kids who are just learning to read. The book goes along to tell the reader just why animals should not wear clothes, and it is quite humorous to look at the illustrations of the animals wearing the clothes. Visually, the book is very appealing. Each page is a very vibrant color, with the text in big white block letters. E ...more

Age Level: Beginner's book. each page uses simple words, with very large and understandable text.

World View: N/A

Literary Elements: personification, repetition, punctuation.

In the Classroom: the students could learn proper use of comma's, and how they are used to break up ideas in a paper, as each page is broken up by commas because each page is a separate idea, but on the same topic. the students could do that by making a story very similar to this one, a

This book explores the reasons why animals should definitely not wear clothing. It is a very cute book and lists some of the many reasons why certain animals wearing clothing would be very problematic. A porcupine would poke holes in clothes, a snake would slither out of them, and a sheep would get them all messy, just to name a few. This book is very imaginative, silly, and will keep children entertained! This book could be used to teach social studies concepts since it is expected for people i ...more

This book is perfect for beginning readers. It isn't too long and has nice short sentences. The words are in large bold font to make the students focus on them easily and they are all mostly on bright pages. The illustrations are on negative space and enhance the words. It has more of a square orientation and the images are perfect to keep the children's attention on the book. The sentences are a bit repetitive but in a good way. It sets up a rhythm that the students can get into. I liked this b ...more

Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing by Judi Barrett is another humorous and well thought out book. Children would definitely laugh as each page was being turned. These animals all had silly clothing on, that would not work for them. It will teach children that clothes do not work for any animals because the nature of animals bodies is not the same as the human body.
