greg brought this up to me last week, and i don't know how i have missed it all these years!! this book has a message i can stand behind.
initially, it goes into the ways that animals in clothing is impractical because of the nature of animals' bodies and the limitations of human clothing to stay on or enhance those animals, but then it ends with the most convincing point: animals in clothing is just plain embarrassing! to them and to us.poor animals, why do people try to steal your d...more

Years ago I cut up a tattered copy of this picture book and mounted it to 12x12 squares of cardstock. Animals wearing clothes is a silly concept and as such worked well with the "silly circus" theme. It also served as a tie-in to this week's craft in which we made funny clown ties using cardstock, stickers, and ribbon. One of the animals pictured is a giraffe wearing seven neckties, which served as a "tie-in" to this week's craft in which we made funny clown ties using car...more
Animals Should Definately Not Wear Clothing is definately appropriate for those children who are being introduced to picture books. The whole concept the this book is very humerous and allows the reader to take a closer look at each animal's characteristics by the tpye of clothing they are wearing. Students will be able to see that all in all clothes are not meant to be worn by animals for many reasons. The overall display of the book is without a doubt very appealing by the color choice Ron Bar...more
Judi Barrett's story is a plot-less story that describes why different animals should not wear clothing. The illustrations, done by Ron Barrett, have an enhancing relationship with the text. The humor of the story is amplified through the illustrations. The illustrations show the animal that corresponds to the accompanying text, on a full-white background. Some animals are done in color, while others are not; however all the clothes are colorful. The illustrator uses crosshatching to show ...more
Judi and Ron Barret did a marvelous in creating this funny and adorable story. The title matches exactly what is happening in the story and it progresses from one animal wearing clothing to the next. Each page express a silly statement of why that animal should not wear clothing. Young children would laugh and laugh when following along with this story. The illustrations contain a picture on one side in the middle of the page with lots of white space and on the other page is the large fonted tex...more

Animals Should Definitely Not Wear Clothing by Judi Barrett is another humorous and well thought out book. Children would definitely laugh as each page was being turned. These animals all had silly clothing on, that would not work for them. It will teach children that clothes do not work for any animals because the nature of animals bodies is not the same as the human body. The illustration was magnificent because the animals looked as if they were real. The colors were not too bright but they w...more
This book changed my life!
This was one of my personal favorites growing up. This book would be great for beginning readers because the text is simple and it’s informative as well; it demonstrates unique characteristics of animals. The book guides the reader through hilarious explanations why animals shouldn’t wear clothes. My favorite is, “it might be very embarrassing for an elephant. The picture shows an elephant wearing a floral dress and hat while staring at a woman wearing an identical outfit. It’s a cute and fun re...more
This book presents a witty look at what it would be like if animals attempted to wear human clothes. The illustrations and ideas are understandable to young children but humorous enough to entertain older ones. Each page pictures a different animal in an article of clothing that manifestly does not work (one of the funniest is the hen wearing pants, with an egg caught inside). The sense of absurdity in this book will delight and cultivate a wonderful kind of humor.
Charming, silly, and fun. I definitely liked this one much better than Animals Should Definitely Not Act Like People. While this title does not include alliteration, the scenarios are funnier and fit the animals much better. My favorite illustration was the possum peaking out of the long underwear bottom! Oh, and the kangaroo wearing a coat because it reminded me of Katy No Pockets
This is a fun book that describes several reasons why it is impractical for animals to wear clothing. The narrative is simple, with one reason and an accompanying illustration on each two page spread. It's a fun book to read aloud and our girls enjoyed listening to it on tape (although the narrative was quite fast).
My children thought this was a fun book. The four year old enjoyed the colors while the 5 year old enjoyed explaining why hats shouldn't go on a camel or why it would be difficult for a snake to wear two-legged pants. Also a good beginning read with large words for those learning sound and initial stages of reading.
This is a funny story. It is a great book for kids to read because it is entertaining and it also introduces rhyming and other early literacy skills to children. This book is good to read when you are spending one on one time with a student, quality time with your own child(ren), and reading to your class.
This is a funny book for children and its repetitive beginning to each line is great for children to read-along with. There are other series and it opens their imagination and keeps them interested in reading more. Funny books are great books for kids, it stems their reading and their hunger for more.
This was read at story time today. It was a big hit with the older crowd of preschoolers. They found the illustrations quite humorous. My personal favorite was the moose with suspenders. A fun book for animals lovers and also reviewing different types of clothes for younger children.
A classic tale of why animals should not wear clothes. Snakes would lose it, a moose couldn't handle suspenders, pigs would make a mess, a giraffe would look silly, among many other problems.
Guaranteed to produce many giggles at storytime!

This was a silly and funny story. It tells you reasons why animals should not wear clothing, but it is also giving you information about animals at the same time. Like it wold say reinderrs cannot wear a hat because of their antlers.
What a funny tale. The book carefully explains why animals shouldn't were clothes. This book is great for reading aloud or for beginning reader. The text is simple but the illustrations add alot of spice so be prepared to laugh!
What a cute little book. Loved the illustrations, especially the hen and the elephant. My nursery kids (ages 18 mths to 3 years) didn't get the humor, but I think older kids would. I certainly laughed and I'm an older kid.
This book has funny illustrations of why animals shouldn't wear clothes. When I read it to two different pre-school groups, the kids laughed so hard I was starting to wonder if they were okay.
I think this book is SO funny, I love it! Really creative with great illustrations to compliment the text. Kids could think of their own reasons why animals should not wear clothing.
This is a very simple book illustrating various reasons why animals should... yeah.
The text is simple and a bit understated, the illustrations are quietly hilarious (if that's possible). I keep picturing the hen with pants on and cracking up!

This is a very clever book with fun illustrations about how unnecessary and downright ridiculous it would be for animals to wear clothing. It's a fun read kids will request to read over and over again.
Moe
marked it as to-read
I already have a good reason. It would be a waste of clothing because they would just tear it up. I can't wait to read this book.

Rhis book is a very funny story that shows kids what it would look like if animals wore clothes.

This book is good to talk about what is needed for the animals to live. When I discussed what is needed in the animals, one of my students commented that the animals in the book always wear clothes and that it is wrong of them to do so. It is interesting to see what the students observe. The pictures are fun to look at because they contain a lot pictures that a normal book would not have. The students will get a lot out of this book.
A fairly simple book with illustrations of animals wearing clothing.
The illustrations are ink and watercolor.

No, animals should definitely NOT wear clothing. A very fun and funny book for early readers.
Pictures of animals wearing clothes show why this would be a ridiculous custom for them to adopt.
