The Bro Code - Barney Stinson

Another retreating read. I finished this in about an hour, it's a paragraph per page, and it's written for men so clearly the words aren't particularly large. Kidding!

The back:

Everyone's life is governed by an internal code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. But Bros in the know call this holy grail the Bro Code.

Historically a spoken tradition passed from one generation ...more

A fast, funny read. I laughed so hard and rolled my eyes so many times, I'm surprised they didn't roll right out of my head!

The book is short - only a paragraph per page. Perfect given the fact the author's target audience is men. =)

Lots of funny, stupid rules like ... "A Bro is under no obligation to open a door for anyone. If women insist on having their own professional basketball league, then they can open their own doors. Honestly, they're not that heavy."...more

How I Met Your Mother tie-in book. HIMYM is my favorite show currently on the air; I found the book disappointing. Mostly it just recounts a bunch of stupid guy clichés, and a bunch of guys’ stupid clichés about women. For the most part, except for when it’s cribbing concepts directly from the show, it lacks Barney’s wonderful weirdness—I mean, he’s not some dull frat boy, which is what this book sounds like; his rules and schemes are much stranger, are always slightly off-kilter. This is exactly what you'd expect: a fast, fun but slightly offensive read. It was a gift from a friend who knows I have a heart-on for NPH and HIMYM.

Could do without references to farts/boobs/etc., but it's interesting to read about the common male's perspective in terms of friendship ("A Bro is never offended if another Bro fails to return a phone call, text or email in a timely fashion." p. 182), dating ("When a Bro gets a chick's number, he waits at least nienty-si...more

I was looking for something easy to read and asked my brother to loan me this book. It was a super fast read for me (took me around half an hour) because it's basically just a book of "guidelines" and the language is really simple.

This is basically a book that tries to be funny by playing around with guy / girl cliches. Nothing very elaborate or all that funny. I like the "How I Met Your Mother" series so I was a bit disappointed with this, even if I kinda expecte...more

I picked this up to see if I could safely rec it for high school boys. I've never seen How I Met Your Mother, but I still really, really laughed at this. A lot. It is deliciously feminist in its complete and total embrace of sexism. Um. That sentence might not make a lot of sense, but I can't really think of a way to phrase it better.

Honestly, it's so perfectly over the top. Read it. It will take you almost no time at all to get through, and you'll run into lines like this: A Bro is ...more

The premise: we are all presided over by innate rules of conduct and behavior - some call it morality - but Bros in the know call it the Bro Code. This side-splitting prize comes fully loaded with penetrating parody. Although a quick read, "The Bro Code" is suitably weighted with entertaining one-liners. Men, keep this awesome book on your coffee table, or your desk. Women, buy this book for a peak into the psyche of a Bro in the know. This effortless and gratifying book makes a great ...more

Historically a spoken tradition passed from one generation to the next, the official code of conduct for Bros appears here in its published form for the first time ever. By upholding the tenets of this sacred and legendary document, any dude can learn to achieve Bro-dom.

If you're looking for a set of deep thoughts, well-reasoned arguments, or anything else worthwhile, don't bother. BARNEY STINSON wrote it, for Pete's sake! If you're looking for a few entertaining sentences encapsulated in a book you can read in an hour, then you've found it. It was funny in places, but that's about it. If you like HIMYM, it's probably worth that hour. If you don't, I wouldn't bother.

I laughed out loud a lot reading this. I could picture the Barney Stinson character reading the text out loud.

I have to share a couple of the funny ones:

"Article 15: A Bro never dances with his hands above his head."

"Article 44: A Bro never applies sunscreen to another Bro."

"Article 67: Should a Bro pick up a guitar at a party and commence playing, another Bro shall point out that he is a tool."

This book was hilarious! Especially since it was read by Neil Patrick Harris and its his character in How I Met Your Mother. I first listened to parts of this while visiting Shae and listenend to it in her car while driving all around Orlando/Gainesville. I listened to it again once we were home, and there are seriously so many funny "Bro Codes" that the bros should live by. I've watched the tv show a few times, and now I really want to watch the previous seasons. There was an episode ...more

Tony and I listened to this yesterday since we are such huge fans of the show. It was entertaining enough, though it got a little old in some places and some "articles" were far less amusing than others. Overall, though, I found it funny. Neil Patrick Harris reading was key. It was amusing to see how many articles Tony had broken. :)

The only thing better then reading it yourself is having Neil Patrick Harris read it for you. The NUMBER thing dosen't get old. you would expect it to, but it dosen't. This book is like having Barney Stinson with you were ever you take it. If thats something you want don't hesatate to grab it.

I loved this book. As a fan of the show, this is the perfect companion piece. I love the character of Barney Stinson and I totally felt like he was there reading this to his "wingmen" and probably making them take the oath. This book was alot of fun and and I heartily recommend it!

I think this is one of the funniest books I've read/listened to this year. I've never watched the show it is based on, but I do love NPH, so I had to check it out. I really want to watch the show now, if just for the character that "wrote" this book. It was so hilarious.

Review for females: this book doesn't exist. Ignore this review.

Review for males: Don't let females read this book, but read it yourself.

Seriously, if you're a fan of How I Met Your Mother, this is a must-read, especially if you realize the show is 100% about Barney, and that the other characters are only there as jumping-off points.

This book is AWESOME! It's a parody of a character from the criminally underated TV show "How I Met Your Mother" and it stars BARNEY STINSON as himself. The book is a "code" for how to behave if you are to be a good Bro. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book!

If you enjoy the TV show, "How I Met Your Mother", then you'll probably enjoy this book. It is a pretty quick read, i finished it halfway though the plane ride. The only draw back is that the word "Bro" wears out its welcome pretty early on.
