I read (well, skimmed) this book because I recently took a class in aerial silks and this was pretty much the only book I could find on Amazon that mentions the subject. I was hoping for more of an instructional sort of book, but this was a history of all types of aerial dance (including static trapeze, lyra, silks, rope, and other random objects). Aerial Dance is not meant to be a guide to the practice, that is best obtained by direct lessons with a trained professonial. However, for dance and movement enthusiasts, it is a great introduction to the history of Aerial Dancing and a guide to the different types of Aerial that exist. Bernasconi and Smith have compiled research and interviews from aerialists around the U.S. giving their readers a taste of the development of the form and variations of style.
