Top 5 things on Jessie Whitman's to-do list:
1. Enjoy the three weeks off from school that living in Alaska offers every year.
2. Beat the unjustly perfect and obnoxiously rude Sabrina at the Annual Best Costume Contest, while wearing her best friend, Abby's, design.
3. Get to the bottom of why her boyfriend, Jake, hasn't been in contact with her. She can't let her friends be right in believing that he is too "wishy washy." Als...more

I like to snatch up any winter/holiday stories I can find, so when I saw this at the library I checked it out right away without really reading the description. Overall, I really liked it - it was cute and fun. Will is really appealing, and Jessie is generally likable. The downside: I feel like the characterizations of people were all over the place at times, and I wanted to hit Jessie a lot of the time. Jake was a coward and a total jerk, and Jessie tries to convince herself for way too long th...more

This was a really cute winter read. It's a lot like the small teen beach reads that aren't too emotionally investing but are light, fun, flirty, and always turn out all right in the end.
I enjoyed the characters, for the most part. Jessie, the narrator and protagonist was a pretty typical teenage girl who is in a long distance relationship and when he shows up in Alaska with a new girl, she reacts a lot like an average teenage girl would. I re...more

This book gave me a much more modern view of Alaska. Set in a ski resort with the most amazing ice cream parlour, I was ready to grab my skis and jump on the next plane. This was a quick and easy book and was such a delight to read. It was most definitely a quirky, sugar coated romcom. It might be a wintery book, but it was full of sparkle.
This book definitely made Alaskan feel a lot let harsher and a lot more habitable. For the first time, since reading books in preparation for Alaska week, I...more

This books was so sweet. It was Sweet Valley High meets some sort of foodie book. I love all the different ice-cream references. It made me hungry. Lol. Jessie lives in Alaska with her parents and works in the family ice-cream shop. It is winter break, and she finds herself in a love triangle. I love the humor and the characters that Ray writes. I would love to see a sequel. This book is amusing and appropriate (and I think relatable ) for teens and adults alike.
I was sorely disappointed when I opened this book up. I expected paragraphs and full sentences. Instead, I got stanzas and verses. Did I mention that I hate poetry? However, though I was at first disappointed, at the end, I was pretty surprised at the interest the book had gained...from me! [of all people:] It was surprisingly quick and entertaining. I was able to finish this book in about 30 minutes even though it's a 400 page novel. The book also brought some tears to my eyes because while Ali...more

“I rewrapped the scarf around my neck, and thought about how excited Jake had been that first winter he was here. Maybe it was just as simple as this: that he'd been up here enough to know that there wasn't anything special about Willow Hill. Including me.”
