The Christmas carol I Saw Three Ships has always been a favorite of mine. When I found the book of the same name by Elizabeth Goudge, I ordered it having just read Linnets and Valerians. I was not disappointed and am glad I saved this short read for December!

It is a sweet story about Polly Flowerdew who lives with her two aunts Dorcas and Constantia. Against their wishes, Polly leaves a window open on Christmas Eve in the event that the Three Wise men decide to visit. The words to th More...

Young Polly comes to live with her elderly aunts, Aunt Dorcas and Aunt Constantia, after the death of her parents. As Christmas approaches, she tries to convince her aunts to celebrate the holiday the way her parents did. Their home was left unlocked day and night to offer hospitality to all. What a delightful little Christmas book! It's about a girl who lives with her two aunts and she wants to leave the doors unlocked on Christmas in case the wise men should happen by. Well, some wise men do end up stopping by. This is a sweet Christmas story that I want to pull out next year at Christmas, and the next, and the next.

We just finished this one for our first Advent read aloud. What a delightful tale. If you like Elizabeth Goudge you must have this one too!

Every year I cry when I read this book. This is one of those amazing Christmas stories. It is the story of a young girl that is waiting for Christmas. As she is waiting, she is visited by certain people. It has such a sweet ending.
