Heavy Weather is the fourth book in P. G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle series and it's back to fun and games similar to that of the first book, Something New [aka Something Fresh]. This time around we're having a healthy round of "Manuscript, Manuscript, Who's Got the Manuscript?" and for those with more animal interests a second game called "Poach the Pig." While there are no impersonations in this particular outing, there are misunderstandings galore as the vague Lord Emswo More...

The sequel to Summer Lightning, taking place only days after its supposedly happy ending. Ronnie and Sue's happiness hasn't been cemented yet. Monty Bodkin, the nephew of Emsworth's rival in pigs, becomes the new (much suspected) secretary, trying to hold down a job to win the girl he loves. The detective Pilbeam doesn't give up, and tries to steal it for the publisher against Galahad's wishes; Monty does as well, so he can secure a job in return. One couple's future depends on the memoirs' More...

I came across this title on audio book (read by Jeremy Sinden) when I was a teenager, and immediately fell in love with it. Years later I found it again, and was amazed that it was just as much fun as I remembered it.

The plot deftly winds around itself as characters cross each other's paths and foul up each other's plans, barely realising they are doing so. It's peppered with typical Wodehouse descriptions which will have you giggling and snorting with amusement.

One of the very best non-Bertie Wodehouse novels, this Blandings Castle farce had me in tears on the train home from a workday in Los Angeles. (Next to a swim in the ocean, nothing makes a day at the office disappear more quickly and thoroughly than a dose of Wodehouse.) The plot is clever, but as usual that's far less important than the characters and language. Here the insouciant Monty Bodkin is amusing, but the real joys are the hopelessly woolly Earl of Emsworth and his infinitely digress More...

‘Heavy Weather’ is the fourth book Wodehouse set at Blandings Castle and the first to be part of the Blandings ‘Saga’ following on directly from ‘Summer Lightning’ as a sequel. ‘Heavy Weather’ in fact has the same premise and plot as ‘Summer Lightning’ and with an identical cast and the same romantic leads it is a much a re-write using all the standard Wodehouse ‘business’ that he hadn’t fitted into the first book. ‘Heavy Weather’ is unique amongst the Blandings book as no-one present is posing More...

PG Wodehouse is a genius! I loved this story. It was delightful and hilarious. I cannot wait to read the rest of the Blandings Castle series, then on to his other books. I highly recommend for those who enjoy English humor.

This was a long hard slog, but in the end this book was humorous and enjoyable. The real difficulty with this book for me was the number of sub-plots occurring to eventually achieve the same goal.

I'm having trouble with time and peace of mind right now (having to find a place and move). That made this one hard to concentrate on but Wodehouse is as always great. i will need to re-do this one again when I'm more at peace and can give it the attention it's due.

The first Wodehouse book I ever read. A Blandings Castle book. Made me giggle aloud on the school bus, as I recall.

One of the Blandings series. Not the best of the group but worth reading if you like Wodehouse and Blandings.

What I'm going to say about this book applies to all of the Jeeves and/or Blandings Castle books from Wodehouse. I don't recommend reading Wodehouse if you're looking for intricate plots or substantial character treatments. I use Wodehouse as a reminder of why I write. He takes such evident enjoyment in playing with words, reading him reminds me that the process of writing doesn't have to always be heavy labor and that the end result doesn't always have to be a life-changing event for the reader More...

Good Wodehouse - only suffers from too many characters, so sisters and brothers sometimes became interchangeable.

This novel is the second of Wodehouse's Blandings novels, and continues the silly (in the best sense of the word)interwined elements of a prize pig, a memoir manuscript that contains potentially damaging information about leading members of the gentry, and an engagement of marriage between a young member of the gentry and a chorus girl. Woodhouse tells his story in his classic light-hearted style. Not all books need to have a deep meaning to be worth-while reading. Highly recommended.

A classic Wodehouse tale involving aunts, stolen pigs, and stolen manuscripts, with two romances in the balance. A fine Blandings Castle novel.

The fourth Blandings novel, following straight on from Summer Lightening. Most of the same characters (plus Monty Bodkin and Lord Tilbury) still causing confusion and heartache by turning up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Lots of people trying to steal Gally's memoirs, some to destroy them, others to publish them.

Wodehouse truly is the grandmaster of comic literature. This Blandings Castle novel is flawless.

For a long time I have avoided Wodehouse. He is just too silly. But I had a long car trip, and this book was available in the library on tape. It was fun listening to this nonsense. Wodehouse creates some colorful characters, mixes them together, and the story probably writes itself.

I'll never understand how anyone could dislike, or even be indifferent about, Wodehouse. Stephen Fry's description of his books as 'sunlit perfection' just about covers it. I'd have killed myself if it wasn't for these books.

Wodehouse on form with this Blandings novel. Wonderfully eccentric characters and a great turn of phrase. It's amazing how much of a larcenous streak seems to run through the upper classes in his stuff

Now I know where Alexander McCall Smith gets his inspiration. Beautifully written, if completely ridiculous. I guess that's why it's a comic novel. My first Wodehouse but definitely not my last.

A Blandings escapade...Hunt the Reminiscences and Steal the Pig...in which Pilbeam gets drunk and Lord Tilbury is rolled in the Empress's sty. Mothers and aunts are the enemy.
