If I can go into this manga and hug every single person (except Akito) I would! They are just too awesome for words. My rants (I will no longer call it reviews because I don’t really review these volumes… I just go on and on about how much I love it) cannot describe just how epic this series is. I wonder if any of you are tired of me saying that! Ah, gomen, gomen. I will try not to say it again. (Watch me fail.) This volume was both sad and cute at the same time. Well, to be more accurate, it st...more
Volume 13 gives us yet another reason to feel bad for Yuki. His mother shows up to his parent-teacher conference. She may not be cursed as a Zodiac, but she's definitely a real witch. Her treatment of Yuki in front of his teacher is beyond cruel. Luckily, Ayame, Yuki's outlandish brother arrives to save the day. Yuki survives the parent teacher conference only to get stuck in another awful student council meetings. Yuki just can't get a break.

We get to meet Yuki's ice-queen of a mother. She's ready to tell Yuki exactly what kind of life he will have without consulting him about his feelings. Ayame shows up and saves the day. It's nice to see him come through for Yuki, and I think Yuki really does appreciate it. There's more student council crap that I don't really care about. Okay, so maybe I'm slightly curious about Kuragi because she's so quiet. But that's the only interest I have in any of them. I have to say, though, Yuki is righ...more
This volume was really bittersweet.
There was sad moments with Yuki's bitchy mother (I think Ayame and him are really starting to get along) and then Tohru sneaks into the Sohma house to talk to Kureno, and find out if he is Arisa's Kureno. He says he never plans to talk to Arisa again, but on the way in Tohru meets Momo, Momiji's sister. Their story is so sad, Momo soooo deserves to see her big brother.
After that it got a bit cute with the school trip, and when Kyo said he would support Tohru...more

With each passing volume, it seems like there's more that happens. Tohru's relationship with Yuki is questioned by Kakeru, and when Kyo pushes away that girl, she wonders if he'll push her away eventually. I feel like this is the volume when things start to change between Kyo, Yuki and Tohru. And since there are only 10 volumes left, things will start happening at a more rapid pace.
Like with every other volume, I love the artwork. It really is getting better with each volume, and I love that you...more

When the series begins, Tohru is living in a tent in the woods after being recently orphaned when her mother died in a car accident. Somehow, Tohru is able to remain optimistic despite all the shit she has had to go through.

The interactions between Yuki and the student council members are always funny. We finally meet Yuki's mother. (view spoiler)
Yuki stands up to his horribly controlling mother and Tohru sneaks into the Sohma estate to track down Kureno for Uo-chan's sake. Tohru meets Momo, Momiji's sister who has had her memories erased but suspects that Momiji might be her brother. When Tohru reveals Momo's admiration to Momiji, he finds some happiness. Later, the high school kids go on a class trip.
Ayame hijacks Yuki's parent/teacher conference with hilarious results. While I like the interaction between Yuki and Kakeru, the whole student council subplot feels a little too much like a vain attempt to draw out the story. The Momiji/Momo plot is sad but doesn't particularly advance the characters.
Fruits Basket (フルーツバスケット, Furūtsu Basuketto?), sometimes abbreviated Furuba (フルバ, Furuba?), is a Japanese manga series by Natsuki Takaya. It was serialized in the semi-monthly Japanese magazine Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1999 to 2006. The series was also adapted into a 26-episode anime series, directed by Akitaro Daichi. The series tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who, after meeting Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma, learns that thirteen members of the Sohma family are...more

YESSSS!!! another one down! going to go pick up Fruits Basket Volume 14 from the library now!
The sentence breaks in the dialogue bubbles were awkward and occurred too often. I ended up...reading everything...like this....and it wasn't...a very....pleasant....experience...
Other than that though, it was great. We get some new development on Momiji and Momo's (unfortunately, I've been conditioned to think that anyone named Momo is a flying lemur) relationship. And of course some angsty moping from Yuki, which I can see will eventually start becoming annoying. It hasn't yet, but please reac...more
