Like with the previous volume in the series, I really enjoyed the first half but the second half just fell flat for me. I must just not be interested in silly fan-service anymore, and that's really all that half of the book felt to me. The first half was quite interesting to get a better history on Yuki and why he's turned out the way he is.

YUKI'S PAST, AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH--
Hey, are all of the characters' cursed past stories revealed in these series? I finished the series a little earlier, but...I forget.
Anyway, THIS VOLUME DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS. If you do not know what happens or you haven't read this volume of Furuba yet, I advise you to just zip your eyes away from this review and read something else.
Unless...you dare to read my spoilers. MWAH! HA! HA! HA!--
Anyway, I love how in this story, Natsuki Takaya-san creates the characters...more

Tee-Hee-Hee! This volume was adorable. Well, towards the end it was. The beginning made me want to cry. However, it's because of this sadness, I think, that made me understand a little bit better. That's right... I actually understand Yuki a little better now. Took me long enough, ne? Well, I'm sorry but arrogance makes me dislike people. In any case, I really appreciate what this volume does for the reader. It makes things so much more clearer and also brings the reader to a place where you thi...more
I have to say, that is the worst synopsis I've ever seen on the back of a manga volume. It tells you exactly what happens. Oh well, I guess!
We get a look at Yuki's childhood relationship with Akito. We also see his first run-in with Kyo. Young Kyo was obviously bitter about the rat's part in the legend and takes it out on Yuki. I think Kyo was unaware of everything Yuki was going through, or he might not have been so mean to him. We see more of his ice queen mother. When Yuki finally makes frien...more

Ok despite that little Tohru-Kyo moment at the end, I'd say this chapter definitely goes to Yuki. Well his past is a lot clearer now, and I feel so much more sorry for him. His actions make a lot more sense when you put it in perspective, his memories are horrible. Thye way his family treated him, the way Akito treated him. To be honest I don't blame the other zodiac animals seeing as they were probably not allowed to see him and didn't act like that of their own violation. The whole thing with...more
Yet another Yuki-heavy volume. As much as I love Yun-Yun, I'm really missing Kyo. We learn more about Yuki's childhood in this volume. He was placed with Akito at an early age. Akito must not be much older than Yuki, because they were both children together. Even as a child, Akito was selfish, needy, and cruel. He made sure that Yuki understood "his place." He was worthless. No one wanted him. The one time Yuki tried to make friends in school, he accidentally turned into a rat, and all his new f...more
Somewhere around here I know I'll be getting to the volumes of the manga that I haven't read yet. Much of Yuki's past is finally revealed in this volume. (view spoiler) Also, the Cinderella play finally takes place. Favorite line: "Yes way, as per the narrator." It really made me laugh. (view spoiler)...more
I think this may be one of my favorite volumes of Fruits Basket. We learn more about Yuki's childhood and his connection to Tohru. You really do understand why Yuki acts the way he does. I really liked seeing the class play they put on, and some of the trouble they had with it. Tohru's really changing: she's still herself, and in a lot of ways, she's still the same Tohru we met at the beginning of the series. But she's also speaking up for herself a little more, which is great to see.

This volume has two very different moods to it.
The first part is very sad as we go more into Yuki's history, how he ended up under Akito's control, and some of what that entailed. This was a great follow up to what ended off the last volume. The more I learn about Yuki the more I'm starting to love him. After everything everyone in this series has experienced all you want is for them to be happy in the future. This new information also brings a lot more weight to Tohru's presence and how by jus...more

Not bad. This book, content-wise, was split in half. The first part was about Yuki's childhood and his deep connection to Tohru, and the second half was about a play the school conducted. I really enjoyed the contrast; the dark and then light tones, and there was definitely progress in terms of plot.
Yuki 100% thinks of Tohru in a maternal manner, paving way for Kyo to make a move. But it seems slightly unlikely that its going to happen anytime soon because the end of the book revealed his uneas...more

I love this Volume sooo much! It's so great how they changed up the Cinderella play... and Kyo's so great in it! I love how Tohru accidently goes off script... just like her!

So we get to delve into Yuki’s past in this volume and it’s a sad past with annoying Akito! The whole hat thing is cute and who would have believed who it actually belongs to, small world and all that. The play I rushed through because I didn’t really care for it. Now I have to wait again in order to read more Fruits Basket.
Fruits Basket (フルーツバスケット, Furūtsu Basuketto?), sometimes abbreviated Furuba (フルバ, Furuba?), is a Japanese manga series by Natsuki Takaya. It was serialized in the semi-monthly Japanese magazine Hana to Yume, published by Hakusensha, from 1999 to 2006. The series was also adapted into a 26-episode anime series, directed by Akitaro Daichi. The series tells the story of Tohru Honda, an orphan girl who, after meeting Yuki, Kyo, and Shigure Sohma, learns that thirteen members of the Sohma family are...more

Wow. This one was really serious and went into a lot of detail. I can tell it's definitely after the anime was done. Yuki's childhood is so sad, but it does explain a whole hell of a lot. Especially why Akito's so obsessed with him. Their version of Cinderella (Sorta Cinderella) was hilarious and definitely fit everyone much better than the actual Cinderella. It's also interesting to see how much stronger the possible Kyo/Honda relationship is versus the Kyo/Yuki/Honda mess in the anime. I am re...more
