I found this book while killing some time in a tiny bookshop in Orwell. Its the kind of shop you could spend days in despite its size. I found many viable candidates to be my next read but I couldn't pass up on The Fat of the Land. Its the story of an urban dweller who decides to leave his professional life behind to start farming in rural New Hampshire (I think). Sounds like any one of dozens of contemporary memoirs, but this one was written in 1903. What I found most compelling was how he view ...more
