Lately Strega Nona has been distracted--she even gave Signore Mayor the wrong remedy for his headache. One night Nona has a dream about her Grandma Concetta, who has been in heaven for many years, and her little house at the seashore. Nona decides that she will take a vacation there. While Strega Nona is away, Bambolona will do the daily remedies and Big Anthony will do th...more

Tomie dePaola never fails to serve up laughs when he delves into a new story about Strega Nona and her two well-meaning but often bumbling assistants, Big Anthony and Bambolina.

When Strega Nona dreams about her vacations as a young girl to visit her grandmother, she realizes that she is in need of a real vacation, during which time she can relax and not worry about treating the problems of the villagers. With Strega Nona away Big Anthony is sure to get in trouble, however, and the ...more

have read many Strega Nona books in my day and I have never once seen Strega Nona actually take a vacation from her hard work. Well, I picked up this book and realize that Stega Nona takes a vacation like every other hardworking person, except with more hazards sure to come. “Strega Nona Takes a Vacation” is the newest book from Tomie de Paola’s “Strega Nona” series and relates the story of how Strega Nona tries to have a vacation, but sometimes trouble comes when you least expect it. Tomie de ...more

I love how the Stregna Nona stories are sequels and continue the story like we know stregna Nona. I also love the simple use of Italian sprinkled through the pages. This story has a good message about not to take things that are not yours or bad things can happen, but I love how in all of the Strega Nona books she is graceful and patient and kind. She is the rock and also the person that people look up too!

This is a wonderful tale about Strega Nona, the close bond between family, and vacations at the beach. It also has some wonderful Italian words that are woven into the story, with translation, so children can understand their meaning. We really enjoyed this book.

Strega Nona decides to take a vacation, but leaving Bambalona and Big Anthony in charge of her home is not as simple as it should be...very cute story, but more enjoyable if you've read the original Strega Nona.

It was nice to read this book after Strega Nona: Her Story because of the mention of her grandmother. Another thing I liked in this book was that it wasn't Big Anthony who caused trouble, as he typically does.

I liked it. It was funny and I think kids will love all of Strega Nona's series. I also liked the pictures they completely enhanced the story.

I am a big fan of the Strega Nona books, especially the ones in which Big Anthony has a major disaster. Hilarious!

I loved the Strega Nona books when I was younger. As an adult, I now enjoy reading them to my own kids!

Fun book. Played on the theme of the original book. I enjoyed the back cover art the best :)
Rachael
Cute story. I definitely prefer the original to this one but this one is still very cute.

C loves this book, and I find the dream references great for a toddler's imagination. I wish dePaola put more Italian language components into this story, but it is still a super "reading" book for toddlers / preschoolers.

Okay, dePaola is one of my favorites and this one was almost as good as the original book, Strega Nona. Ah, Strega Nona dreams of times past being on vacation at the beach with her Grandmother.
Since Strega is also overworked she sets off to the beach and of course Big Anthony provides the humor to this story. Delightful and dePaola's use of the intensity of the colors in these illustrations reflect the tones of the beach. Nicely done.

Another adventure with strega nona, only this time, she goes on vacation. This book was fun to read and the pictures were comical and sweet, all at the same time. I would probably recommend this book.
