This was lent to me from a friend, highly recommended.

It was not what I expected.

I think late middle school to early high school me would have absolutely loved this. My angsty, dark teenage self would appreciate the incredibly Tim Burton-esque artwork and the gorey, violent humor.

Older me? I read too many graphic novels now to truly appreciate this art form. I like substance and plot - not humorous little snippets. Would I enjoy this, possibly, as a web comic series? More likely. As...more

Read more of my reviews at my blog!

Lenore is a cute girl, who also happens to be dead. Apparently, her heart died with her soul, so she is constantly hurting things. This comic book in particular is 3 sections and there are small stories within each section, one story being approximately one page.
I like these comics because I have a slightly dark sense of humor and it reminds me of the show "Invader Zim," which is one of my all-time favorite shows. At some points, it is a little sadistic, but...more

When I first heard of Lenore, it'd been from a friend of mine. He kept telling me how funny the comic books were & when I asked them what it was about, he told me "dead little girls!" Since he didn't have any comics on hand & this was when the internet wasn't as extensive as it was now, I didn't see how it could be as entertaining as he claimed it was. Years later, I've read all of the comics & I just can't get enough!

Lenore, named after the Poe character, is a little dead girl with...more

Oh Lenore, I wuvs you!
I first read the Lenore series in middle school, and have recently gone back to read it through again. I love this series as much now as I did then.

Lenore is accurately described as the cute little dead girl. She is a weird mix between Wednesday Addams and Pippi Longstocking. She goes through strange little adventures with her plushies and dolls. It sounds silly and childish, but believe me there is much more to that than meets the ear and eye. The appeal of the comic is hard to explain. Just like with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (I can't believe I mention these two in the same context, don't let that scare you off) you have to expe...more

I love Lenore and Roman Dirge for creating her and bringing her to 'life'. This is the first volume of Lenore and has the first four issues that have been painstakingly recreated and coloured by Roman Dirge himself. Even in these early days Lenore is superbly funny and adorable and here we find her discovering Ragamuffin, get our first look at Mr Gosh and find that Lenore is not so good at babysitting. We also have the added bonus, which is continued in later volumes, of Dirge's childhood storie...more

Plot Sketch: This is a collection of little spreads about Lenore, the cutest little dead girl you ever did see. Some are remade fairy tales and nursery rhymes, some are spookier like the remake of Poe's The Raven starring Lenore. My favorites though were Soylent Green (about a limbless cannibal) and Little Bunny Foo Foo (boppage was superb). Oh, and Leap Froggie, where the little girl hops over Lenore into a wood chipper. It starts out with an amazing babysitting tale that could happen to anyone...more

I got this book on the recommendation of a friend and a few pages in found myself wondering what the hell I'd spent my money on. But then suddenly, I laughed. And then a few pages later, I laughed again.

For me, laughing while I read doesn't happen often - I think comedy is all abotu timing and delivery, things which are hard to do well on the page. But yet this book made me laugh.

However there are three complaints I have with this book, three things stopping me from giving this book a higher sco...more

Awful, awful, awful. Nothing beyond that painful gothic cliche of 'not taking dark themes seriously' which seems to think that it's oh so quirky and witty (see: Tim Burton, hack extraordinaire).

Lenore seems to be designed specifically for teenage girls with self-esteem issues who try to compensate by associating themselves with spooky, 'mature', 'weird' and 'dark' things. Lenore also caters to the impulse these individuals have to desperately advertise that they're also totally down-to-earth bec...more

Having no real expectations for this comic, except that it had pretty stellar reviews and a Tim Burton-esque feel about it, I wanted to give it a go. I was hoping it would be a series of short, cute, dark little grotesque comedic shorts...on the character Lenore.

I enjoyed some of the strips...laughing out loud reading them. While others felt either disjointed, a little too angry in content (one in particular), or just confused and bland.

It's definitely a comic you have to be in a certain mood...more

Cute little comic collection about an innocently cute little girl named Lenore. Well, innocently cute and Dead, did I mention that part? Yes, Lenore is a dead little girl, who has a thing for taxidermy, squeezing her pet animals, and dismissing would-be suitors with stabs to the head with steak knives.

A quick read, well-paced. Definitely appealing to the darkwave community.

Dead little girls are cute and deserve their own playground and comics. Lenore died, but her death was just a beginning and she met new friends, who were twisted and crooked in the most funny and dark way. Lenore knew her ways and her approach was always straight. Broken Hamster story for example...simply all are broken thus killed why trying them in pet shop.

Love this so much. Morbidly hilarious!

Suburban Goth kid in the mall-"I write only the darkest poetry and plan to someday kill myself."

Lenore-"Ummm...Dead. DEAD over here."

Whenever I lurch into a morass of morbidity, whenever I get just a bit TOO "Wednesday Addams" (easy to do, just look at me), I think of Lenore, laugh at myself and open the drapes.

Every time I read "Lenore" (this is the second time I've borrowed "Noogies"), I try and utterly fail to pace myself. It's just so deliciously morbid, and always has me hooked.

"Noogies" is a good place to start, as it tells Lenore's backstory but also introduces two utterly delightful characters: Ragamuffin, the vampire cursed to be a doll; and Mr. Gosh, the doomed and lovesick man with button eyes.

I fucking love Roman Dirge's. I found this cartoon series in another dimension comic book shop in Kensington, Calgary back in 2006. I instantly fell madly inlove with this series, and forced my morbid infatuation on everyone that would read them. I seriously need to read more!!

This is a cute book in a demented way. It's made up of comic issues 1-4 about Lenore (who happens to be little dead girl). There are also comics on other varies creatures like Soilent Green, the boy with his heart in a box, Mr. Puffy and others. Lenore doesn't seem to be the brightest dead girl out there and tends to do some sick and twisted things. Quite disturbing sometimes and on the other times it can be quite funny. This is not a book for everyone. If you do not like to read things that are...more

3.5

I found this book when I was looking though the comic books in the library and thought why not so I sat down and once I started reading it I never wanted it to end. Comic book series is hilarious!!! Lenore noogies is a dead little girl who is from a dark world, she looks like a mutilated doll basically, she loves little animals but every time she even looks at then they die Lenore is one of the funniest, darkest comic books I have ever read. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone with a serious att...more

I adore Lenore! I pretty much jumped up and down when I found this on the new cart at work. I have the old paperback editon but couldn't resist a colorful Hardcover. How can you not love the cute little dead girl?

I love Roman Dirge. His work in comics and his writing for the the show Invader Zim are all awesome, hilarious, and really, really dark and twisted. Lenore is such a cute character, and so very vile I can't help but love these comics.

This book took me back to my college days, reading Lenore in my best friend's living room among her stacks of books and comics and cats.

I appreciate all the work done by Roman to more-or-less re-draw and color in these old comics. It really comes across beautifully in the larger pieces between the story strips. However, it also reminded me how artistically rough most of the really early Lenore comics were.

Story-wise, the graphic novel is still greatly amusing with references to Poe and twisted n...more

Having read "the Book thief" I needed something to change my mood. I had tried a very sad story and I was loocking for a funny one. Lenore was the best option to accomplish that! I couldn't help laughing out loud reading the insane, weird and hilarious stories throughout the book.

The only aspect to consider is that I do enjoy black humor when it is well used, but it may bother certain people due to some cruel situations in the comic.

This probably goes as a 3.5 because I was torn between being utterly shocked to laughing giddily. It reads as an unholy union between Tim Burton and Dr Suess...tripping on LSD...

This book is a recollection of different Lenore stories. All of them are very creepy, extremely dark, and totally fantastic. Funny to the tenth potential. You just gotta love Lenore, the cute little dead girl.

The people who like Tim Burton and/or Emily The Strange will adore Lenore. Also, the drawings. It's so cool! And the color only makes it look better. And it is not only Lenore, but the story has more characters like the guy who is totally infatuat...more

Not my usual pick but I do remember laughing out loud at least once. Those who like this stuff (dead girl humor, off beat, etc.) would probably enjoy this.

Funny at first but gets kind of boring and the same after a few stories.. So I will not try the other parts that apparently came out.

Apenas entrando al mundo de los cómics, me prestaron este. Está muy bonito y hay participación de Jhonen Vasquez y Voltaire! Una joya :)

It was alright, not, in my opinion as good as Johnny The Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez, but a fun easy read nonetheless.

Takes a little while to hit its stride, but there's some wickedly dark humour here, if you are patient. I'll be buying Book 2!
