Another one of Freddy's favorites. I checked this book out a couple times and renewed the loan a couple times from the library, and finally i just bought it for him. He loves the whole thing but gets most animated over the dirty window on the fire truck on the second page ("DIRTY!"), and he loves pointing out the blue buildings on EITHER SIDE of the burning building! Who cares about the fire, really -- This is when he first really seemed to get a handle on the color blue! He's also more concerne ...more

Recommends it for: 1 - 5 year olds, lovers of fire trucks
This is the best fire truck book we've come across, my 3 1/2 year old loved it. It tells the story a fire company who gets called out to a burning building where they heroically put out the fire and bring everyone to safety. In very simple but lovely rhyming prose, it gives details about a fireman's job that will fascinate preschoolers and at the same time it pays tribute to our fire fighters. The illustrations in mainly three colors, red, blue and yellow, are esthetically pleasing to the parent ...more

There's a plethora of picture books on this theme. We chose this one for our library story time because it combined cumulative verse, a story, and all the elements we wanted to include. It's large size was nice, as all the children could easily enjoy the illustrations.

"This is the firefighter. These are his clothes.
This is his truck, and this is its hose." etc.

It is hard to find a firefighter book that my son doesn't love, but this is exceptional. It has lovely rhythmic, rhyming language that is short, but descriptive. It follows a firefighter as he prepares for a call and helps his team save an apartment and its residents. Both of my children adore this book.

Well done picture book about a firefighter in the city. The narrative rhymes and builds, and the illustrations are detailed and interesting. This is one I could see a child wanting read over and over, and the grownup not really minding!

Basic plot: Firefighters to the rescue!

The pictures are good, but the writing is inconsistent. The story is really choppy. I think it's intended for VERY beginning readers so is written simply, but it doesn't read well. My son was also very upset at one of the pictures because there was a kitty in the window of a burning building and there was no one rescuing the kitty. Kitty got saved at the end, no worries, but I can see where a sensitive child who pays attention would be seriously worried unl

I enjoy finding thematic books to add to my class Read Alouds and this book didn't disappoint. The additional treat? It's a picture book written in rhyme! :) The story and illustrations complement each other well. The color red POPS throughout. A great pairing of Laura Godwin and Julian Hector to make a wonderful tribute to our heroes - the firefighters! I give this 5 out of 5 YUPIs! :>

Pretty cool. Reads like _The House that Jack Built_, but without the repetition.

This is the station.
This is the bell.
And this is the signal that all is not well.

The illustrations are interesting too - very detailed, but only using red, blue, yellow.

Think "Fire Prevention Week." This is a great book with good rhyming and colorful illustrations. Having a fireman as part of the program would be excellent.
