Mad Love is the headliner in this collection of Batman stories that seem to share only a Batman: The Animated Series aesthetic. Mad Love is, of course, the origin story of Harley Quinn, and it's by far the best of the lot. It was eventually adapted into an episode of the cartoon series, with only slight changes. It's pitch-perfect, even if a little frantic in pacing. The dialog was dead-on for all of the characters. Far and away the best story in the collection by me. But I'm a huge fan of Batma More...

An absolutely fantastic collection of Batman stories! The highlight, of course, is the award-winning "Mad Love" starring my favorite character, Harley Quinn, but the 'Other Stories' mentioned are just as entertaining. The interconnected tales, "Going Straight/Puppet Show/24 Hours/Study Hall/Laughter After Midnight," feature many of the notable villains of Batman's Rogues Gallery (Roxy Rocket, Scarface/The Ventriloquist, the Joker, Scarecrow, and Catwoman); my favorite story out of these would ha More...

I have only read two comic books in my life . I hope to read more but this one i knew i had to own. Harley Quinn has been favourite character since i was a kid so to get to learn her origin story is a real must for me. The writing and the artwork in this is phemonenal, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm really are legends. It will make you laugh , make you smile, make you sad and (made me cry, i'm a girl i get emotional this can't be helped). Honestly an amazing read and a must have for a Harley Quinn or More...

I definitely find that I enjoy the darker Batman comics more. The colors in this were bright and saturated (which, yes, I know, makes sense for Harley's theme) and it overall left it feeling more child like than anything else. It didn't really give me the Batman mood that I often enjoy and therefore fell a bit flat for me. Most of the stories in here didn't hold my attention and were more of the short, caper, variety of storytelling that leaves little to the imagination. However, Harley Quinn's More...

"Mad Love" manages to be dark, twisted, and child-friendly at the same time, much like the TV show that created Harley Quinn, "Batman: The Animated Series".
"Mad Love" delves into Harley's backstory and manages to paint a portrait of an individual we can sympathize with; while many of Batman's villains are complex, most of them have the narrow-minded "someone wronged me and I want revenge" backstory (which can be interesting and can make for a compelling story, but it gets a little repetitious af More...

How could anyone fall in love with the Joker? That is the question most people ask when they learn about Harley Quinn and the question that this comic takes a stab at answering.

Poor Harley, she's in love with (or rather, obsessed with) the Joker and all she wants in return is his love and to have his children. But the Joker is obsessed with Batman. It's all he can think about, all he has time for. What's a poor, deranged, homicidal girl to do? Kill the Batman of course, thereby freeing up the J More...

I've always been fascinated with the character of Harley Quinn. A crazy chick who fights good guys with a giant mallet...what's not to love? After reading one of the Gotham City Sirens books, I started reading about her history. The Wikipedia page referenced Mad Love as being the book where, due to the popular audience response to Quinn, Paul Dini and Bruce Timm (creators of Quinn's character) tried to take a one-off character from the cartoon series and give her a backstory.

The result? Mostly More...

Mad Love is required reading for anyone who enjoyed Batman: The Animated Series. It’s tragicomic, appropriate for everyone despite dealing with fairly mature issues, and fearlessly turns Harley Quinn from hench-wench to a complex character in her own right. The rest of the stories collected are a good and varied representation of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm’s impeccable work together, showcasing what great storytellers they are- but they pale in comparison to Mad Love.

If you're a fan of the 90s animated series and haven't read this collection then what's wrong with you? Don't be like me and wait years and years to crack the pages of this glorious book.

Contained within this compilation is the headlining, "Mad Love" in which we're treated to the origin story of Harley Quinn, Joker's obsessive girlfriend. After many flashbacks, Harley plans to once and for all end the one constant distraction in her relationship with the clown prince of crime - Batman!

The art is mesmerising - it's like Archie comics drawn in a noir style, with a touch of pulp adventure sensibility that gives everyone squarer jaws and broader shoulders than they'd normally have. Thick ink lines and bold colours make this definitely a "comic" rather than a "graphic novel" - but the truth is I much preferred this to any of the grittier batman books I've read where they try to place him as a real man in a real world like ours. The simple, clear art makes for iconic images - every More...

I downloaded this on comiXology and read it on my laptop. I've been wanting to read it for a while, and since it's hard to get hold of in print I thought I'd download it. (It also worked out a bit cheaper, which is always a nice plus).

Mad Love reunites the creative team behind Batman: The Animated Series, which, even to this day, remains one of the best animated shows ever. It tells the origin story of Harley Quinn, a character Dini and Timm created for the animated show. Quinn wants to finally More...

Some fun Batman stories in this compilation of work from Dini, Timm and others. Being principally the creative work of the duo behind many of Batman's animated adventures, this TPB works well as a primer on what makes the character and his world great.

Of particular note is the Harley Quinn origin story. She's a character birthed on TAS who went onto popularity in the main continuity. It nicely fleshes out aspects to her character that were hinted at on the show.

I also very much enjoyed the Two F More...

This graphic novel was published during the 90's, hence the art and story is a tad bit different 9more lighter, more cartoonish, similar to the Batman Animated series) than compared with today's more mature, Gothic themed comics.

But as the story goes, it is more about Harley Quinzel's rise to become the Harlequin, Joker's "lover" and crime partner.

Its kind of a tragic story, but illustrated in a carnivalistic way.

Quite a read, Mark Hamill, Frank Miller and lots of other people gave awesome revie More...

Paul Dini and Bruce Timm team up for one heck of a Batman story. The big sell here is the Harley Quinn story about how she first met and fell in love with The Joker. The story is savagely demented and why someone as pretty as Harley would fall for a psychotic like the Joker might be beyond my comprehension, but Dini makes this one tragic script. Timm's art is amazing and pops off the page. Besides the main story there is also several other good Batman stories involving Batgirl, and Clayface amon More...

I loved it!!

Super duper much to the max max max!!

If you are a fan of "Batman: The Animated Series" from the '90s then you will absolutely love this book!!

It's funny! It's action packed! And it has Harley Quinn in a negligee!!

Squee!!!!

The origin story of Harley is in this book. That is what the book is named after. I have never seen the cartoon version but this was written before that (well, the comic was. It was bound into this collection in 2009). It made me love H More...

More of a collection of stories of Batman villians trying to go straight than I expected. One of the main stories is Harley Quinn's delusional love of the Joker of course (which was the main reason I picked it up) but it also had stories about Scarecrow, Two Face and Scarface falling back into crime. A quick read, but I really liked most of the stories. Harley will always be one of my favorites, just because she's adorable but she never learns. And it was very interesting to see how quickly and More...

Paul Dini created Harley Quinn and in "Mad Love", together with artist Bruce Timm, he writes the origin story of the character where we find out she was a psychologist at Arkham who fell for the Joker's charms in a Stockholm-syndrome kind of way. The "other stories" in the title feature a variety of villains such as the short-lived "Roxanne `Roxy Rocket' Sutton", a jewel thief who flies around on a rocket with an old-timey ray gun, the Ventriloquist, Scarecrow, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Cl More...

Dini and Timm’s animated Batman Adventures and its companion comic book series rejuvenated my love for all things batty back in the 90s, even as Schumacher slowly and near fatally destroyed the cinematic franchise. (Funny how that works, no?) Well into their comic book run, DC green-lighted a four-color adaptation of Mad Love, which details the hilariously dark and twisted origin of the Joker’s obsessive girlfriend, Harley Quinn – a character that was originally created for the animated series. Harley, Harley, Harley... Poor thing. Now, I'm not a very good feminist. Let's just put that out there. And I love Joker/Harley stories. The Joker and Harley Quinn are pretty much the ultimate in the abusive relationship. In real life, this would be the saddest thing I'd ever heard. But that's what's so great about fiction, you can look at something from totally different perspectives and you can explore impossible ideas and outcomes. You can take a maniacal serial murderer and pair him with an More...

"I bought this hard-to-find book from a fellow graphic novel collector on a very good deal in an absolutely brand-new-like condition.

Another great read! This is truly a masterpiece by the award-winning team of Paul Dini and Bruce Timm. Batman Adventures: Mad Love and Other Stories centers on the origin of Harley Quinn, compiled with great and grim stories like The Study Hall with the Scarecrow and Two-Of-A-Kind with Two-Face which I find fantastic. A must read for every Batman fan."

So, Harley Quinn is quite possibly Paul Dini's greatest invention. His wildly entertaining romp and Bruce Timm's brash and vibrant illustrations à la B:TAS radiate sheer genius and utter madness. Love certainly makes you do the craziest things. What more could we expect from Gotham's most insane duo partnership/quasi-relationship that is Harley and the Joker (although don't get me going on the whole setback of feminism here)? I only wish Dini and Timm would do way more of these books.

I really enjoy the team of Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, but I was rather underwhelmed by the main Mad Love story. I've wondered for a long time the details behind how Harley became what she was, and the answer was shorter and more limited than I was expecting. I did enjoy the other collection of stories that encompassed the remainder of the book, but overall, the book just didn't scratch the fictional itch.

This is a great story that tells us how Harleen Quinzel became Harley Quinn. Its a nice back story for her and how she felt towards The Joker. The artwork was awesome. It shows us how an egomaniacal psychopath like The Joker isn't capable of pure love, even if a girl like Harley Quinn, who gave up everything she had for him was always there to back him up. This is a crazy twisted tale of love between the on/off relationship between the two. A very enjoyable read for Batman fans. Cheers to Paul D More...

I really enjoyed everything about this little collection. The art is fun and dynamic, with lots of nice brush and ink work. The stories are short but sweet, and really provide a lot of character development which I find lacking in a lot of super hero comics these days. I found the story about Two Face to be particularly interesting.

I loved the cartoon-series-style art, and I am super fond of HQ. I wanted to give this 4 stars, but the bit where Batman's describing how Harley slept with her lecturers for her grades rubbed me the wrong way. Really fun story otherwise (ahahaha the piranhas!) and then an ending that feels like a stake through the heart.

I went back and forth as to how I would rate it and ultimately I decided on three stars. Most of my praise is for nostalgia because Paul Dini/Bruce Timm were two powerhouses behind Batman: The Animated Series. Mostly, this compilation felt like reading from my old Disney Adventures with a slightly racy panel here and there. The art style was much more muted for the animated series which provided some nice drama. The coloring here felt too much like an Archie comic to ever feel very tense. Mostly More...
