This is one of those rare cases where the sequel outdoes the original. The first, Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty though likeable enough, was somewhat constrained by the framework of the retelling (in this particular case, a modern retelling of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing). In the second, while there are echoes of Cyrano de Bergerac , Gehrman doesn't rely on the device to be her end-all be-all in terms of the story. The characters have taken on lives of their own and are given more...more
Triple Shot Bettys In Love was as funny and heartwarming as Confessions Of a Triple Shot Betty, if not more.
Geena and Amber grew greatly as characters and were hilarious most of the time. The dialogue and situations between them and the other characters was realistic and believable. As I said in my review of Confessions Of a Triple Shot Betty, Geena and Amber felt like they could be some of my best friends if they were real.

The Bettys are back and they are in love. After five months of dating Ben, Geena finds that he wants things to get a bit more...physical. She's not quite sure if she's ready for all that though. On top of that, she has Amber to worry about. See, they got this new substitute English teacher who is way hot (think Ezra Fitz from PPL) and Amber wants to trick him into loving her. So Geena is helping Amber out but accidentally pushing Ben away and sort of, kinda falling for Mr. Sands herself. Oh youn...more
Geena is a skater girl in high school who works at an espresso stand (called Triple Shot Bettys) with her friend Amber. She's got an amazing boyfriend named Ben, but she is still getting used to that whole idea, plus figuring out how to retain her independence and other friendships at the same time.
One day her English teacher does not show up because she has broken her hip. Her replacement is a handsome, young teacher who is interested in Kerouac and the beat poets rather than Moby Dick and oth...more

A modern day Cyrano de Bergerac story with a twist!
When the long-term substitute English teacher arrives at Sonoma Valley High, both Amber and Geena fall head-over-heels in love with his good looks and sophisticated style.
Geena pens sophisticated messages through MySpace to Mr. Sands in the hopes that he will woo Amber, her best friend who is anything but the classic reading, college-aged literature geek Mr. Sands thinks she is. Geena's fascination with Mr. Sands complicates her troubled relatio...more

This was a fun, light read - great as a vacation book.
The Triple Shot Bettys are the young girls who run a coffee shack and attend Sonoma Valley High.
Friendships, love interests, misunderstanding, all the angst of being young and finding your way and handled in this fun read.
Have not had the opportunity to read the first book about these friends, Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty, but feel sure it would be a good read also.

This book is one that I got from my own high school library (where I teach) and it was really cute. The characters are believable. Although the days of acting like these kids do is long over for me, I remember only too well what it was like to crush on a boy. I think that's why sometimes a YA book works for adults, it causes us to reminisce.
This book has lots of talk about sex and drugs in it, but it's realistic to how teens are today. Like it or not, that is what is on the minds of young teens...more

I didn't know if I could love this one more than the first novel but I definitely do love it just as much they are both equal. While Hero is not a constant in this one she is still around which is good.
This book was super witty, fresh and just so realistic. The way they dealt with love was amazing on all sides but the main story of Geena and Ben was really good and for some reason touched me and loved the way it all played out.

Picked this up on break when I'd forgotten my book at home. Didn't realize till I'd sat down at the restaurant that it's a sequel -- it doesn't say that anywhere on the cover or in the book. I wasn't too confused by the plot or story, but I spent most of the book wondering why Geena likes Ben so much. He must have gotten all his character development in the first book; in this installment, he's a non-entity. I ended up finishing it, so I must have been engaged enough by the story, but I don't fe...more
i loved this book i picked it up in the library one day and when i went home to read it i found out that the day that i was reading it was close to the days it the book and that was cool. I loved all the twists and turns of the book. It has one of those stories where it's like you want to know what happened but at the same time you don't. I felt that the story was very relate able to a real life teenagers life for the most part. the ending was my favorite part of the book i just wanted to keep r...more
Fast-forward 5 months into the future: we find out that Geena isn’t sure how to be a girlfriend to Ben, who’s becoming more of a horny lapdog by the day. (He couldn’t be perfect forever, could he?) She’s more and more focused on her courses and getting into a great school. Especially English, which I’m sure has nothing to do with the hotness of her new teacher, Mr. Sands. This reminds me of the crush I had on my government teacher in tenth grade. He was way out of my age bracket (and I mean way)...more
Geena is starting to completely flip out. Her boyfriend of five months, Ben, wants to get a lot more physical then she’s ready for. Then there is Amber, dear, dear, Amber, who happens to have a crush on Geena’s delectably steamy and hot English teacher, Mr. Sands who also happens to speak to Geena’s soul. Amber knows that she has any chance of stealing the heart of Mr. Sands she is going to need help, a lot of help from Geena that is. Soon Geena finds herself writing MySpace messages to Mr. Sand...more

Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty ended up being one of my favorite novels of last year, so it would be an understatement to say I was excited about reading this sequel and exploring how man-hating, feisty Geena would fare in her first romantic relationship.
In this second Betty adventure, the action revolves around Amber’s crush on the hot new English sub, the Jack Kerouac loving Mr. Sands. In a plot reminiscent of Cyrano de Bergerac, Amber enlists the decidedly more book smart Geena in her cam...more

It is not often that a sequel is better than the first, or is it the sequel usually outshines the first? Either way Triple Shot Bettys in Love has its own share of greatness! Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty fans rejoice the sequel is in the house! I love this series, and it is one of my favorites. Gehrman is such a fantastic writer! These novels are hilariously funny, which keep me coming back for more, and yet each story has significant depth, that keeps the story real. Her novels are the be...more

The reason I included this book in Girl Week is because its predecessor, Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty, was an entertaining and, more importantly, subversive novel, featuring an awesome revert-double-standards prank at the end. There’s no encore of said insurgent prank here, granted, but that’s okay, because the motifs explore here, like Geena’s confusion about Ben and Amber’s infatuation with her teacher? They’re rooted in the underlying insecurity we crazy...more

The Bettys return in this fun-filled sequel to Confessions of a Triple Shot Betty. This story resumes not long after its prequel leaves off. It’s been five amazing months since Geena realized her feelings for Ben. Things couldn’t be better for them until a glamorous girl from Ben’s past shows up, threatening their relationship and Geena’s self-confidence. And even though Amber swore off boys after her last relationship ended disastrously, she can’t help but be smitten by Geen’a incredibly hot an...more

I read this book in one day. I seriously could not put it down. And I totally got into it...
I most definitely cried at one part in particular.....which made me want to keep reading so that what I hoped would happen would. I loved the ending and it may just be me but I'm a total sucker for books like these. I hope Gehrman will write more about the bettys and ben and the whole crew.

A love story about two seniors in high school learning how to deal with jobs, staying on top of their class, grades, assignments, parents, parents' love life, friends, enemies, etc. It is written using honest real high school language but clean. A cute story--how do you know you are in love?
Second book in series but can be read alone.

This book was almost as good as the first, but I found the description on the jacket to be misleading. The plot with Ben wasn't really about him wanting sex, but Geena's inability to communicate and be emotionally intimate with him. I still love that it is a light romantic read whose main character is an androgynous smart skater girl.
Seriously hilarious and charming, both in terms of characters and writing. I simply adored the consistency of the plot: in the first book, it was about taking down a narcissistic player, and in this installation, it no doubt came to be about taking down an egotistical jerk of a man. I love girl power!
all i can say about this book is, IT'S THE BEST BOOK EVER!!! i honestly enjoyed this book more than the first one. i love the romance and the things in there that are true on what teens think about. this book left me with questions and starving for more. i hope for another book to answer all my questions.
I liked this better than the first one (although I loved that one too). I didn't realize that she was basing these books on Shakespeare until Wendy told me the other day. I think it upped the smart factor for me. Even though the characters do occasionally annoy me with their teenage obliviousness, I still think they are funny and care about what happens to them.
I really like these characters and I hope they will reappear for a third time. I loved the way she modernized Cyrano to tell the story, it made for a lot of laugh out load moments. Geena is a smart heroine, she has a good head on her shoulders, even during her freak out moments. Fun Read
I really enjoyed reading this book in many ways and the book took me on an amazing adventure. It was so cool to here the whole story from Geena and discover the true mystery of love that is solved. For the first time a love story has a happy ending from all the books I read this year. It is really cool to finished this book in about three days but the most reading I did ever was today. Reading while traveling helps me focus on reading more and not thinking about what is happening in the real wor...more
Surprising, much? This is when, for me, when the sequel is better than the starter book. I enjoyed it more! I think we learned too little about the characters in the first book, and now we know more about Ben, Amber and Geena's mom. The point here is, that it outdoes it. I loved the romance between Amber and Rex! But too bad.. I'm not going to say it. ;) To me, I hated Ben. He was snarky and not the right guy for Geena. He calls her by her last name! Seriously? What guy would do that? Ugh, it ma...more
