This book made me care about a high school student. That's rare. In my experience teenagers are inhuman monsters who should be forced to work on a farm until they're twenty and have some compassion and mercy. But this book made me feel actual emotions for this flawed, female lead character. She's MTV Daria level flawed but for completely different reasons. If Daria was flawed because she wouldn't try new things, and was miserable, Lola is flawed because she's totally overdramatic and lies to peo...more
I had to rush straight to my computer to write this!! I just purchased a copy of Dyan Sheldon's: Confessions of a Teenage Drama queen for 20p from a local charity shop!!! whooooop!! I'll be completely honest with you, I fell in love with the movie, purchased the dvd and can quote every line (YES... IT'S THAT ADDICTIVE!) but I never knew that it was based on a book! I never knew the novel was out there *smacks hand* I stood in awe looking at it before I grabbed it. The film was amazing, and Linds...more
My friends say that I'm such a drama queen. And that's why I was interested to read this book.
Oh WOW, Lola is a REAL drama queen. Me is nothing compares to her.
So the girl in this book is actually named Mary Elizabeth, but she preferred to be called (and asked everyone to call her) as Lola. She loves drama. And thinking that ordinary life is not for her, she creates drama of her own life. For example, instead of telling the truth to Ella (her best, and seems to be her only) friend about her par...more

Kay, so I picked this book up under the impression that it'd be good. I got it a few years ago and about halfway through I realized that I'd already read this book when I first got it. So whatever, I finished it anyways.
It's about Lola Cep and her quest to bring uniqueness and hope to the poor souls in Dellwood, New Jersey. She sets herself on the mission of taking down the most popular girl in the entire school, Carla Santini. Everyone knows you don't mess with Carla and come out scarless. Lola...more

Mary Elizabeth Cep, or Lola Cep, as she prefers to be called, is a major drama queen who loves to act and be her creative artistic self. However, when she and her family move to Dellwood, New Jersey, it's an entirely different story. In New York, which is her hometown and where she belongs, Lola has had the spotlight nearly all her life. She longs to be a famous actress one day. So I picked this book up at the thrift store - thinking it might be a good summer read for my daughter (since she is a drama queen!), and it's set in New Jersey to boot.
The main character, Lola, is not a good friend, she's manipulative and she lies too much. Her best friend, Ella, on the other hand, is a bit more mysterious. I was compelled to read the sequel (My Perfect Life) to get to know her better. The antagonist, Carla Santini, is satisfyingly viscious.

Mary Elizabeth, a.k.a. Lola, is accustomed to playing the starring role in the fascinating production that is her life. Her pottery-making single mom and bratty twin sisters are merely bit players in Lola's dramatic existence. But all this changes when she is forced to move from her beloved Manhattan to the boring suburbs of New Jersey. According to Lola, "living in the suburbs is like being dead, only with cable TV and pizza delivery." The worst part is that someone has already snagged the cove...more
Junk food for the mind. That's what I always try to warn my students to not read too much of. And yet, I am guilty of choosing and then reading the biggest piece of junk food yet. Admittedly, Dyan Sheldon has written one terrific voice in her main character, Lola. She is strong and spunky, if not a little narcissistic (...but what high school girl isn't?) The strong character wasn't enough to warrant my thumbs up, though. Will I put it in my classroom library? Yes. Some girls want a little popc...more
Do you think its good to follow your dreams no matter what? Confessions of a Tennage Drama Queen is a really funny book about a girl with big dreams of becoming an actor.Lola Cep is the very unique main charcter. She loves acting and tries out for the school play "Pymagolion".Lola aims to get the leading role but that isnt okay with Carla Santini(the princess of the school).Carla sabotoges her life by getting tickets to Lola's favorite band's farewell concert and an invitation to the after party....more
I liked this book because it's about teen drama and that's the genre I like. It was about a girl how moved from New York to New Jersy and she doesn't like it and has to go to school there, finds her father and gains and loses friends. I give this book a B- because in was good but not to die for. If I were the author I would have added more details and more drama into the book. I'd say a theme for this book is "Don't judge a book by it's cover" because when she moved to New Jersy she was always j...more
I found the overly dramatic narrator a bit annoying, since she never really lets up. I guess I felt like her mother who is constantly nagged... It was a fun narrator though, and she's very conniving and convincing to get what she wants. The ending didn't feel very resolved for me - I wanted there to be more ... justice? For both of the rival characters on each end of the spectrum. I did like Ella's growth throughout the novel, and the writing style of the author was very nice in terms of pacing,...more
The book " Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen " is one of the best books I've ever read. It is about a girl named Lola who moves from New York to New Jersey. At her new school, Carla Santini (the meanest and coolest girl in school) hates her. But Lola doesn't care. She stands up for what she believes in and has problems, makes friends and has a big adventure with Ella her best friend in New York. Lola is weird, nice and exiting. If you like to read books about teenage girls, I advise you to re...more
I read this book a couple of years ago as Disney made a movie out of it, and if a book has been made into a movie, I like to try and read the book first. I have mixed feelings about this book. The movie is cute, and there are some basic ideas in place which are fun, but I thought the execution was poor.
Lola was a huge challenge for me as a character in both the book and the movie. In each she came across as melodramatic and self-centered. I don't remember the ending of the book, but by the end o...more

3.30 average rating?? Oh come on, people! This book was outrageously funny! So what if this book will never be required reading in high schools or that it will never be remembered as a vital work of literature? That was never the author's intent. This is just a fun story about a shallow girl who can't stop lying and/or looking for drama. Besides, did I mention it's funny?? Sheesh, this book gets an easy 5 stars purely for A- NOT putting on its "literary airs" and B- Simply being a fun read.
god this is the good teenlit from dyan sheldon, well the book telling about 2 girl. lola just new student in the school and have a perfect nice friends calledella. lola is the drama queen she like teater and acting but she have some lies too of her life.

Lola gives us her interpretation of her life in the dreaded suburbs of New Jersey, fighting the influence of the school's popularity queen, Carla Santini.
This was a funny (to an adult, anyway) tale of growing up at odds with the culture around you. Lola (in reality Mary Elizabeth) knows she is destined to be a great actress, living larger than life, but constrained by suburban mores to fight for her happiness.
Read for Spring reading challenge 25.8

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that it was a good book. It reminded me of myself. It did that because I am kind of a drama queen sometimes. I also have moved before. I have moved from California to Aberdeen. Other people might enjoy this book because it is about a girl with regular teenage problems but she handles them a little differently. This book I reccomend highly.
Temanya sih tipikal, cewek Independen nyentrik versus cewek paling populer di sekolah yang kejam dan menyebalkan. Tapi I have fun reading it, cengar-cengir melulu plus geregetan sendiri mengikuti kesialan demi kesialan Lola, si Ratu Drama. Endingnya juga nggak klise ala Hollywood. Okelaah!!
Jadi pingin nonton filmnya. Tapi katanya sih nggak sebagus bukunya yah...

I found this at Salvation Army and bought it because I can't resist a good deal. Still, it just felt like I was re watching an old movie. Some parts were different, but most of it was the same. Frankly, I preferred the movie just because it glossed over things I wasn't interested in. Plus, watching people perform is much more interesting than reading about people performing. Go rent the movie. I wouldn't bother with this one.

I've never met anyone more dramatic. Lola, the protagonist, has just moved to New Jersey with her family. Being the new student, she decides to shine on stage, to fit in with the school. With her crazy style and sense of humor, Lola has to overcome competitions with the most popular girl in her school. Things are sour, a girly read for those who love drama. I read this before the movie came out. I liked it. Cute is a good way to describe it. I think it is best suited for a 6th grader and I read it in high school but I enjoyed it i guess. The book is SO much better than the movie. The movie is the worst thing I ever saw. So don't let the horrible movie taint what you might think the book might be like. But remember, it is better suited for the young girl.
This book-and the equivalent movie-has been a station to my life.. It taught me not to give up my goals and to believe in myself no matter what people say.Lola, with her strong and independent personality, is the hero many books lack! And her quotes are hilarious! I recommend it to everybody who reads teen novels.
