For Olivia Raines, London's most notorious courtesan, and the infamous Julian Southwood, Earl of Erith, falling in love will be the greatest risk of all in this wicked and wild romance from Anna Campbell.

Any man in London would worship her. Yet Olivia is, quite frankly, bored of them all. Despite her many dalliances, she's never felt true passion, never longed for any love...more

Tempt the Devil is the sequel to Claiming the Courtesan, but the characters in the latter book play an extremely minor role in this one. They are mentioned once, then they have a small scene near the end. While I feel the books are related they are not--necessarily--a series and do not need to be read in order.

Having said that, I enjoyed how Tempt the Devil started out. Unique plot with a notorious "rake" (Julian and Earl) openly bargaining for the attention and body of Olivia, a well-known and...more

I stayed up until 3:30am reading this book on Friday. It was just that good. Certainly not a book that is light and fluffy, but so excellent that you feel as though you have eating a ten course meal instead of a sweet, tasty cupcake. Erith is not what I would call a nice guy. He's selfish and blunt and doesn't work too hard to observe social niceties. He lives for his own desires, and goes where he wants to go, always drifting, and leaving nothing behind that he regrets despite the many mistress...more

Olivia finds the life of a courtesan tiresome after so many years, but finds a challenge in Erith and sets out to prove he’s just like her old keepers.

Romantic Times said 'takes your breath away ... an unforgettable powerhouse romance'. That is an understatement! I absolutely loved this book and will definitely read it again. Although I feel I must warn you, I recommend reading this book in a very cold room with the air conditioner turned to the coldest setting because it is steamy hot!

Anna Campbell has an amazing ability to write a story that gets to the heart of women's sensuality. What impressed me most about this story was not only was it...more

Sedangkan Julian sang pe...more

Uh, setelah ngebaca buku ini sampe abis, aku langsung bilang: 'What?!' tapi bukan 'What kok uda abis?', tapi 'What apa-apaan nih!'

Definitely one of those books you want to give more than five stars.
Very romantic, deeply evocative and of course, as always, beautifully written in Anna's unmistakable, elegant, deeply emotional, raw prose.

Julian is do die for. Even when he's being a jerk his love is palpable. Definitely a knight in shining armor, and willing to bare his heart no matter the vulnerability it shows in him. Olivia is a beautifully written character.

Re-reading the back cover/teaser here on Goodreads makes me even MORE mad than when I finished this book on the airplane. The back cover/teaser makes it sound as though her deepest secret and scandal is a secret baby, or that she's of foreign origin, or something equally as silly (not silly then, but silly now).

Readers, listen up close. Olivia's secret, her private scandal, is that she was sold into sexual slavery at age 14. She was pregnant at 15 and nearly died during the birth. Ever since, sh...more

My first Campbell novel… and it won’t be my last!

Wow, this book blew me away. I was expecting a sweet historical romance; instead I got a sexy, multifaceted love story between an unconventional couple- a lord and a courtesan. Not only was the story set largely in the bedroom, but it was also more focussed on the male protagonist’s perspective than the female. I was captivated at every scene. Campbell expertly captures the mood, highlights what is at stake for each character and purposefully mak...more

Anna Campbell's writing is growing on me. Where I found her first novel "The Claiming of the Courtesan" somewhat distasteful due to rape scenes, "Tempt the Devil" was very refreshing. Julian was the kind of hero I appreciate in that he wasn't completely dominating and he was willing to humble himself completely for his love. I liked that in this book, the courtesan was a courtesan. She hadn't had only 2 or 3 lovers. She wasn't a shy miss when it came to pleasing men sexually, and she wasn't asha...more

My third Historical Romance book and i think i can get used to this genre. This one was a pretty good read. Notorious Rake meets notorious Courtesan and then begins a game of one upmanship where both try to keep up their appearances while obviously eventually falling in love. I like the 'arguments' that these two have and the constant attempts by Olivia to maintain her calm detached discipline while fighting her attraction to Julian.
They both have their own demons their constantly battling and w...more

Olivia Raines is London's most desired courtesan, and Julian Southwood, Earl of Erith, one of London's most notoriously rakish nobles. Olivia is tired of the courtesan's lifestyle and believes she is beyond finding true passion, but when Erith chooses Olivia as his new lover, Olivia gets more than she bargained for - Erith is a passionate lover who is only satisfied when he possesses her completely.
Firstly, I must admit, I've never read a Regency Romance before, so it's quite possible that some...more

Olivia Raines was a highly sought out courtesan of London in 1826, she had a stream of wealthy lovers and she carried out her affairs on her terms, when she had enough she left them until she met her match in Julian Southwood, the Earl of Erith who has recently returned from abroad to attend his daughter’s wedding.

When he sees Olivia he knows she is to be his next mistress and she agrees. She has a secret that she has managed to hide from everyone else but Julian quickly uncovers her secret and...more

Buku ini masih ya sama scandalnya sama buku pertama, seorang Earl dengan wanita penghibur Olivia. Pertama Olivia jadi simpanannya Julian, tapi lama-lama jadi cinta beneran.

Loved her Untouched and Captive of Sin, but this book is baaaaad. Heroine is long-term courtesan, hero is aristocrat who is her latest 'protector.' Both are control freaks with issues, true love ensues. I didn't care for either of the protagonists nor did I buy their love but, more importantly, this was such a joyless joyless book. I don't mean angsty - I love angst. It just this wasn't angsty but dreary. How the same woman could write the awesome Sin and Untouched books and also this, is a myst...more

The plot was quite good, though the ending was somewhat rushed. We didn't know how Julian changed his mind, the process of it and all. Just all of a sudden, he appeared in front of Olivia and proposed her. I was pretty disappointed.

Furthermore, Julian said that he loved her and her past was irrelevant. But when he found Roma (his daughter) was in Olivia's house, he was enraged and blamed Olivia for getting Roma in her "dirty" house. He said a lot of hurtful things to her, reminded her that sh...more

HATE the cover LOVE the book.

I was surprised to love this book. My first experience with Campbell(Untouched) didn't wow me a bit but boy did this make up for it.

Julian and Olivia both feel they have no souls, that they will suit for a tryst. Julian wants for pleasure and Courtesan Olivia agrees to become his mistress. Julian is trying to overcome the death of his wife and reconnect with his children. At a very young age Olivia experiences a dreadful event that changes her life.

A plus for me were...more

This story has everything I love in a romance novel : a very dark hero, a razor sharp tough as nails heroine, virtually no eye-crossing filler, the screeching emotional roller coaster and all that told within the framework of some brilliant writing. Anna Campbell is a genius with her eerie yet refreshing prose. Suzanne Enoch and Lisa Kleypas can rip your heart to bits with those nasty rakes of theirs but Campbell, she tears away at you slowly until you think you just can’t take it anymore and yo...more

With Tempt the Devil, Campbell has written two characters who are on equal footing, perhaps not in society eyes, but when it comes to the bedroom, both her characters fight over the right to be on top. Julian and Olivia are both alphas who won’t back down from what they want. Julian wants Olivia’s total submission, where as Olivia just wants respect and the elusive joy that constantly escapes her ever she was forced into the lifestyle she hates because of the way she lost her innocence. Tempt th...more

This book was just ok. I love Anna Campbell's writing and Claiming the courtesan is one of my most favourite books. But Tempt the devil just didn't do it for me. I really liked Olivia but didn't like Erith at all. I thought he was too old to do whatever he did. I mean, this 'being a jerk and then apologizing' thing is cute on immature young brats like Kylemore but not on a 40 yr old man. I wanted to slap Olivia for agreeing to marry him in the end.

4 Stars....Just barely!

Good book but there was too much bedroom time in this one for me!

Um...really who says that? Me? Really?...UH-OH! Is something wrong w/ me?

Giggle, giggle, giggle...

I think one problem with this one was there were too many smell descriptions...hahahaha...T.M.I. Miss Campbell!!!

If I saw the word 'smell', and I saw it at least 15 times maybe more, I KNEW it was going to be followed by 'musk', 'sweat', and/or 'male'. OMG...too much.

But seriously, the first two books I've read...more

I bought this as an ebook so i could read it at work. When i lost my ereader program and couldn't reload it, I bought the paperback just to finish it!! I can't even describe the sensual tension and emotional storm that is this book!! Although I bet Ms. Campbell could describe it as she seems to be able to describe everything else so vividly!!

Different plot line which was interesting. No inocent virgins, but still a sexy rake. Would have liked more depth from Julian's first meeting with Olivia and the instant lust to his declaration of love. Olivia was very intriquing. Their interaction was hot. Enjoyable read.

Finally i'd finished this...

Lumayan lah...not bad...but i'd prefer to Claiming the Courtesan than this...
tempt the devil ceritanya gak terlalu kompleks, karakter yg kuat cuma si Julian dan Olivia, sementara yg lain serasa cuma figuran. Baru di sepertiga akhir, bisa intens bacanya..

I really like this book but it still lacked something. I wanted more. And the ending left me hanging. This story had so much potential and unfortunately it wasn't used. The ending just wasn't what I expected. I feel like the story didn't really end properly. :(

Satu lagi hot b...more

Okay, I admit it, I bought this book purely because Nathan Kamp was on the cover. But of course - Anna Campbell swept me away on a gorgeous tide of passion and love, just like she always does, so it wasn't like I was taking any real kind of gamble. The characters and the plot were utterly delightful. Another keeper for the shelf.
