Q. Have you imagined something doesn't exist?
A. I have. I imagined small people. I heard that there are small people around everyone. I think small people exist. I sometimes wonder things moved before I thought that was another place. I think small people moved that. But I have never seen small people. I want to see them directly.

I'm wondering if this is semi-autobiographical (in a metaphorical way, obviously). I've read interviews where authors describe their characters taking on lives of their own, and more than one author has cited childhood illness (or other reasons for extended periods of boredom) as being the time they started writing.

Even if you have no interest in how Ms Jones came up with the idea, this is still an entertaining story for 7-10 year olds.
