I read "Escape Velocity" and i enjoyed because like the other H.I.V.E. books it was very appealing to me.
The book is about a new organization being formed called HOPE (Hostile Operative Prosecution Executive). The organization was made to defend the world from evil otherwise known as Glove (Global Enterprise of Villainous Evil). The first action to fight evil was capturing Maximilian Nero Head of the Higher Institute of Villainous Education. Otto, Shelby, Wing, and Laura leave Hive to try and re...more

Yeah, OK. I'm gonna move this book series to my favourite books this year shelf. They're just too good to be ignored. It would be nice if I could find out if they are going to be made into a movie, but the search results keep coming up with a film about bees (not surprisingly).

This is the third book in the H.I.V.E series and I think it's safe to say it has been the best one so far. And I amk quite pleased with myself for guessing that Number One was Otto's father (which he kind of is). I can't r...more

Continuing the story from H.I.V.E. and The Overlord Protocol, Walden provides his readers a fast-paced and entertaining read about the world of supervillains. Fans familiar with the series can expect the same dense plot and detailed action sequences, but readers who have not read the first two books in the series will be lost. Walden doesn't remind his readers about characters and plot point from previous books, he expects them to know the score going into the story-- much like how his anti-hero...more

I am currently reading H.I.V.E. Escape Velocity by Mark Walden. I am at the part where Nero is trapped in a capsule and Raven tries to help him. The character I'm going to talk about is Raven. When Raven tries to help Nero get out of the capsule I would have done the opposite and pretend nothing happened Nero, ignore the situation, and stay safe.I think that Raven is brave, strong, and cares about Nero. Raven reminds me of a friend one day I fell off my bike and my friend help just like Raven he...more

I thought this was a great addition to the H.I.V.E. ( Higher Institute of Villainous Education ) books. It had a great adventure that was not too predictable. It starts out with Dr. Nero being kidnapped and so you know there has to be a rescue attempt but the twists and turns are surprising and fun. It has great gadgets, great villains who are villains, and great villains who are hero's. It is funny to have the good guys of the bad guys. If you have read the first two, you know that Number One th...more

Like I had told all those H.I.V.E fans before..the books written by Mark Walden are just..simply..freaking..awesome!
This author has actually come up to compete with Harry Potter in sense of a fictitious world building..and he has managed this by keeping it real..you get the sense of feeling that all the things he creates in his..again awesome..book might actually be real.
Otto is a bit of a disappointing book-hero but that's ok because Mark makes up for that with other equally engaging and well b...more

I AM DIEING TO READ THIS BOOK, BUT RIGHT NOW ITS ONLY OUT IN THE UK. :( :( :(

This is probably the first book in the H.I.V.E. series to present such a complicated arrangement of basically who is on whose side. The book takes off after Nero is kidnapped by a new organization, HOPE, and Raven disappears for the time being after falling into the river. Meanwhile, the Contessa relieves Professor Pike of his position as headmaster and brought along the Phalanx to ensure her safety. Otto and his friends have to travel and infiltrate M16, which is a headquarters that has never

*sigh* Mark Walden, how are you going to beat yourself after setting the bar so high in this one. Seriously, he did everything any man can think of and then some. I mean...I can't spoil anything because it hasn't come out in America and a lot of the fans on here live in the US with me (I ordered it all the way from Britain, took me a month for it to get here, totally worth it, seriously man!) but damn it Mark, you've seriously beaten yourself to the ground. There is no chance of you beating this...more

The 3rd book in the H.I.V.E. series was just as engaging and fast-paced as the two books that come before it. I think it's funny that I am cheering for the "evil genius" group in this series - but that is the point the author is going for.

The big drawback is that this book (and the 4th one that is coming soon) have not been issued for release in the USA. Thank goodness one of my students got a UK version through ebay and let me borrow it. Ah, the benefits of my job!

H.I.V.E. Escape Velocity is the fast paced, action packed book of the H.I.V.E series and it is full of pure AWESOMENESS! This book was just brilliant! There were so many plot twists that were so surprising! I mean seriously! Who would have guessed that Number One was (view spoiler)[The OVERLORD (hide spoiler)]? Seriously!

I highly recommend this series to...more

This book was fantistic every book gets better and better all I need is the sixth book to finish the series. I was hooked I couldn't stop reading! It was so suspenceful I felt like screaming whenever something surprising happened its like a thin line of thread that at any moment might be cut and your just waiting nervously until its cut then a new suspenceful line of thread replaces it! You have to read this series! Worood

Escape Velocity was the best book yet of the H.I.V.E. series. The plot was engaging and certainly never boring or slow, full of plot twists every few paragraphs, or so it seems. It was a very easy, fast read, but no less because of this. The character development in this book is much more obvious and interesting than in the previous books, a welcome thing in what is so far a mostly plot-driven series.

This was an amazing book about the rescue operation that may or may not save Nero. The best part of the book was when the reader learns who Number One really is. The realization is very surprising, but I won't spoil it. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to read the H.I.V.E series. This book really stands on its own, but it may be a little confusing if it is the first book of the H.I.V.E series that you read.

I just love these H.I.V.E books! They are the perfect combination of action, adventure, mystery, nerd-dom, and great villains. They are so perfect for boys--well everyone, but especially boys! Escape Velocity is just as good as his previous two H.I.V.E. books. All the twists and turns will keep you guessing and gasping in shock. I only wish they would get to the U.S. sooner!

This book was AWESOME!!!!!! I had to order from Great Britain because the US publisher Simon and Schuster does not yet have a release date. We need to write/email and start begging for the US release of Escape Velocity. The next book Storm Front will be released Sept 2009. I am planning on ordering again overseas just so I can have this book.

The stakes are higher as 13-year-old Otto and his friends race to rescue HIVE head master Nero from HOPE, but HOPE is not what it appears to be, Otto is not who he appears to be, and Number One is definitely not who he appears to be. A fast paced read although the series is getting darker. What next?

Loved it! Walden manages to weave a complex plot together masterfully in this third part of the series. Escape Velocity is just an amazing book with all the characters that we have started to love from previous books, fighting against this new foe till the climatic (and surprising) ending.

I do enjoy a good thriller and Mark Walden's series never fails to deliver. Otto and Nero and Wing and Raven and HIVE Mind ... they're all such interesting characters.

This is edge of your seat action. Was just refreshing my memory on the author. Part of his background is in film ... and his stories show it. This would be a seriously fun movie series. The cinematic quality of the story shows itself in the pacing and description. How long until number four? It's going to be hard to wait.

There are definitely a lot of plot twists with this one and I think it sums the series up very nicely but you know there are two books after. I would recommend if you love the series or have nothing us to read then read on but if not. This is great to end on.

I really liked this book because it changes views from character to character. I think think this would fall under the realistic fiction-science fiction genre. I think readers will like this book because it surprises you with things that you will never guess.

Good book. Could not stop reading. Finished it the day I checked it out. Every time I flip the page a new thought forms in my brain. Almost like a puzzle. Like how you have to read between the lines to get anything.

For three long years I've been waiting for more of the HIVE books to finally get a stateside release, and Escape Velocity did not disappoint in the slightest. As much as any three-year wait can be, it was worth it, as this is easily the best in the series so far, chock full of action, excitement, twists and turns, suspenseful moments and narrow escapes. I also felt like Mark Walden took a huge step with this book towards breaking his series away from its Harry Potter-inspired roots (the parallel...more

This book is not available in the US as far as I can tell. It's book 3 of 4 in a great series that my DD12 is reading called H.I.V.E Higher Institue of Villinous Education!

A quick, exciting read. It is very fun to watch everyone get pwned by a crew of over-powered kids. It is a predictable book, but that is to be expected, and I still think that it was a very enjoyable read.

Okay, so I love this series... but I had to give this one a 4 star, really even a 3 1/2. (view spoiler)[ You find out at the end that Otto is not really a true genius, which made this book very lovely (and relatable, ha ha) but instead he's a clone of the creepy old guy (forget his name, but he's the head of GLOVE) but his mind is a supercomputer... both corny and dumb. Literally ruined the series for me because Otto wasn't just really smart. Sorry, Mr. Walden, but I think you're trying to keep...more

This book overused the words 'quickly', 'replied' and 'calmly' to the point where I couldn't focus on the story. However, I did enjoy the twist at the end.

Had to order from England, but well worth it. Dr. Nero is being held hostage, Raven is killed, and Otto saves the day. Another great H.I.V.E adventure

I am the world’s laziest man.

No…really. Not just a bit slack, really, truly, breathtakingly lazy.

Which is why it’s taken me so long to get off my big, lazy rear end and get myself properly on-line.

I’m the author of the HIVE series of books which I hope that some of the people who stumble across this might have read and enjoyed. Or read and hated…

I am fortunate enough to live with the two most beau...more
