Escape Velocity was really intense and interesting! After Dr. Nero, head of H.I.V.E. is captured by an evil facility called H.O.P.E., Otto and his friends take action. Many things happen during this epic adventure, not all good. Otto is discovering the secrets of his unique ability to control computers with his mind, and with the advanced technology of H.O.P.E., this gift comes in very handy. The hardest part of course is breaking into their base to rescue Dr. Nero. that is, breaking into M16... ...more

Had to order from England, but well worth it. Dr. Nero is being held hostage, Raven is killed, and Otto saves the day. Another great H.I.V.E adventure
A secret meeting between old friends leaves Gregori dead, Raven missing and Nero being held hostage by a group who want to know about Overlord. The students get a real shock when The Contessa is revealed to be their new headteacher and the staff are ready to rebel. The Contessa sees the opportunity to exact her revenge on Otto, Laura, Wing and Shelby while they try to find a plan to rescue Nero.

This was another action packed adventure in this great series about the school for villains. I love th

The third book in the H.I.V.E series entitled Escape Velocity is excellent. In this book Dr. Nero, the school's headmaster, is captured by a new organization called H.O.P.E. The school is barely scraping by without Nero. After several months with no return of Nero the school is in need of a new headmaster. The students and staff are baffled at who Number One appoints as Nero's replacement. Otto and his friends know that they have to save Nero if they ever want their school to return to normal. Yeah, OK. I'm gonna move this book series to my favourite books this year shelf. They're just too good to be ignored. It would be nice if I could find out if they are going to be made into a movie, but the search results keep coming up with a film about bees (not surprisingly).

This is the third book in the H.I.V.E series and I think it's safe to say it has been the best one so far. And I amk quite pleased with myself for guessing that Number One was Otto's father (which he kind of is). I can't r
Ok, this is the last book for now (Mizan not yet published the fourth) and the novel I really want to read up till now. But, again, not really I hope. Not H.O.P.E. Lol.
Well, Nero has been captured and Raven and Otto have to rescued him. But he is nowhere, so they have to penetrate to that location. Besides that, H.I.V.E being led by betrayer. And threats to that school is very cruel.
Otto knows this is the real enemy.
Well, one thing for sure, my guess is proven! I guess something about Ott

This book was jam-packed with back to back thrilling fights and break ins. Once again, Walden adds a new twist onto the story with good plot developments. I love how you get a perspective from characters besides Otto, like Dr. Nero. I do wish though, that some better scientific explanation be provided about Otto's unique ability because it seems highly improbable for a very technology based book. And I'm not quite sure what's happening with Franz and Nigel, are they main characters or not? And w ...more

Otto Malpense, super genius villain-in-training, needs all his intelligence plus a newfound ability to interface with technology to take down the bad, or rather, worse guys in this third volume of the H.I.V.E. series. When the director of the top secret Higher Institute of Villainous Education is kidnapped by the shadowy counterterrorism organization H.O.P.E., it is up to Otto and his moderately moral friends to rescue him. It’s basically one long action sequence as they hack into MI6, karate ch ...more

I really like Otto Malpense's name!
I'm kinda upset that Nigel and Whatshisname (the German guy) aren't a huge part of the series.

H.I.V.E.mind is my favourite character, then Raven, then Dr. Nero.
The main characters are somewhere in-between.

Also I find it unrealistic that the main characters bunked together:
Wing+Otto, Laura+Shelby, Nigel+FatGermanDude.
Unless of course that's why they are friends (besides Wing+Otto, because they met on the helicopter in the first book).

I like the part in s

Evil plot gets put in motion, dude gets assassinated for it, an old enemy takes over a school of teenage criminal masterminds, and one computer splicer, Otto Malpense, has to figure out what's going on.

It turns out he's right in the center of everything.

This was a cheerfully surprising teen superspy story. I thought I'd try something entirely different for once, and I could not stop reading the bloody thing. I could easily see it being a Teen Titans or Symbionic Titan style series on the Cartoon

It’s yr 3 for our favorite students of supervillainry, Otto and the gang of talented mischief-makers. In bk 1 they wanted nothing more than to escape the Higher Institute of Villainous Education. By now they’ve developed a kind of on-edge affectionate for the place and at least some of its dangerous inhabitants: Raven, the super-cool assassin bodyguard, H.I.V.E.mind, the computer with a personality, even Nero, the headmaster and one of the most senior members of the elite villain organization G. ...more

Hive #3 Escape Velocity by Mark Walden did not disappoint. I keep on expecting it too, like many other book series' I have read, to have a great first one or two books, and then have the rest of the series suck, but with every book in this series that I read I just get more hooked into the plot of Otto Malpense and his friends. This story has exciting developed characters, plot twists, action around every turn, and humor. It is an amazing book that is impossible to put down from beginning to end ...more

I would've given this 4 stars like the last book but *drops voice to a conspiratorial whisper* Laura kissed Otto...!!!!!!!! I think that gets 5 stars all by itself.

I think it’s safe to say we’re officially is spy territory now, breaking into to MI6 and all that. I’m loving how much more action we got – yes it is possible to have more! This book was awesome but unfortunately all my worst Otto related nightmares came true, nobody panic, he’s still alive-ish. I think he may be scared for life after

It's not that it was that bad.........Okay - so I read this book because I picked it up at a used book sale for my classroom library. It looked fun, so I took it home to read. I didn't realize that it wasn't a stand alone....or worse yet, that it was the third book. It wasn't too hard to get the hang of what was going on, but even after I did, the plot was a bit flat. It's very juvenile, and I am likely not the target audience. If you are not 14 or younger, you are not the target audience either ...more
This is the third installment in the excellent H.I.V.E. series, & I'm assuming that other fans, like me, are feeling strangely invested in & fond of this group of future villains & bad-guys-in-training. It's a weird concept to be on the bad guys' side, but I think at this point, it's becoming obvious that our cast of characters, while calling themselves villains, aren't really the *actual* bad guys here. Otto Malpense & company are changing things in their lives, & their elit ...more

Like I had told all those H.I.V.E fans before..the books written by Mark Walden are just..simply..freaking..awesome!
This author has actually come up to compete with Harry Potter in sense of a fictitious world building..and he has managed this by keeping it get the sense of feeling that all the things he creates in his..again might actually be real.

This is probably the first book in the H.I.V.E. series to present such a complicated arrangement of basically who is on whose side. The book takes off after Nero is kidnapped by a new organization, HOPE, and Raven disappears for the time being after falling into the river. Meanwhile, the Contessa relieves Professor Pike of his position as headmaster and brought along the Phalanx to ensure her safety. Otto and his friends have to travel and infiltrate M16, which is a headquarters that has never

This is a review of the audio version.

First off - 5 stars for Jack Davenport's performance which is, once again, pure genius.

This is another great fun kiddie read by Mark Walden, perhaps aiming to be a 'Harry Potter' of super villains.

Unfortunately, being an old geek, I am NOT in the target audience bracket of young comic book fan.

So, while this book is great fun and the quality hasn't slipped, I think that because I read and reviewed the first three books in relatively quick succession that I

I read "Escape Velocity" and i enjoyed because like the other H.I.V.E. books it was very appealing to me.
The book is about a new organization being formed called HOPE (Hostile Operative Prosecution Executive). The organization was made to defend the world from evil otherwise known as Glove (Global Enterprise of Villainous Evil). The first action to fight evil was capturing Maximilian Nero Head of the Higher Institute of Villainous Education. Otto, Shelby, Wing, and Laura leave Hive to try and re

Continuing the story from H.I.V.E. and The Overlord Protocol, Walden provides his readers a fast-paced and entertaining read about the world of supervillains. Fans familiar with the series can expect the same dense plot and detailed action sequences, but readers who have not read the first two books in the series will be lost. Walden doesn't remind his readers about characters and plot point from previous books, he expects them to know the score going into the story-- much like how his anti-hero ...more

I am currently reading H.I.V.E. Escape Velocity by Mark Walden. I am at the part where Nero is trapped in a capsule and Raven tries to help him. The character I'm going to talk about is Raven. When Raven tries to help Nero get out of the capsule I would have done the opposite and pretend nothing happened Nero, ignore the situation, and stay safe.I think that Raven is brave, strong, and cares about Nero. I thought this was a great addition to the H.I.V.E. ( Higher Institute of Villainous Education ) books. It had a great adventure that was not too predictable. It starts out with Dr. Nero being kidnapped and so you know there has to be a rescue attempt but the twists and turns are surprising and fun. “So you have put yourself through all of this just so that you can cheat in an exam,’ Wing said with a slight smile. ‘An exam, I might add, that you would almost certainly have passed with flying colours anyway.’

‘Well, it’s the principle of the thing,’ Otto replied with a grin.

‘I am not sure that I approve,’ Wing said, raising an eyebrow. ‘Cheats never prosper.’

‘You know, sometimes I really think that you might not be cut out for this place,’ Otto said. ‘I take it then that you won’t be needing a copy?’

‘Well,’ Wing replied, ‘I perhaps wouldn’t go so far as to say that –”
“So what have you done this time, Malpense?’

Otto smiled as he heard the familiar soft Scottish accent of Laura Brand behind him. He turned to face her and returned her wry, lopsided smile.

‘What on earth could you possibly mean?’ he replied with a look of wounded innocence.

‘Well, a full-school assembly usually means that something has gone really horribly wrong and I find it hard to believe that you’re not involved if that’s the case,’ she grinned. ‘So, come on, spill it.”
