I didn't love the book, but I love the story behind it. For one thing, I thought the song was new when it began to replay two years ago. Turns out it was written in the 1950s. The song was written because the Tulsa zoo really did need to raise money for a hippopotamus. It was written and recorded and became an instant hit. The Tulsa zoo raised enough money to buy a hippopotamus just in time for Christmas. Great, isn't it?
I always loved this song, having such great images to put to it was wonderful. Like Beck, I loved how the hippo and the girl were reflected in each other's eyes.
Love the pages with the girl and the hippo reflected in each other's eyes. It's such a silly song, but these are cute illustrations.
The illustrations are so cute!
Cute! I really liked the different illustrations to express the song’s lyrics. Not as compelling a story as 3 Questions or Zen Shorts, but I strongly identified with the protagonist of the book for some reason.
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs, but the text in the book varies slightly from the lyrics, making it a little awkward to read aloud if you're familiar with the song. Cute illustrations.
