This book takes place on a boat where Roland Warvold tells of his childhood adventures with his brother, Thomas Warvold. Him and his brother lived in an orphanage where they worked all day and were tortured brutally. One day they decide to escape and travel to the Wakefield house. They travel to a nearby city where they are taken in by an evil man. Roland and Thomas could understand his wolf. Them and his travel over the lake of fire, and through a forest and a deep ravine. They finally arrive a...more
Into the Mist is a fantastic inclusion to the Land of Elyon series. It brings veteran readers a much needed understanding of the plot and new readers an excellent introduction. I would label this installment a semi-prequel, as the book starts out directly after the events of The Tenth City, but the majority of the story is of Roland's past as he tells his tale to Alexa. There are many interruptions in his tale (mainly by Yipes) and the story is brought back to the present-day events on the Warwi...more
Two young boys named Thomas and Roland Warvold are brothers who are orphans on their own trying to find their real homes. They live in a world where there are two kingdoms named Abaddon and Llyon. The kingdoms had a war together and it caused the death of both their parents. These boys have to travel through the kingdoms to find more of their family because they cannot be alone forever. They need to find support. i like this book because it is sort of like a fairytale how they have to find their...more
From Mommy:
I liked this book because it was interesting to find out about Thomas and Roland's childhood, how they met Sir Alistair Wakefield, Armon and got started on their fight with Abbadon. It explained many things that are left unexplained in the other books. I especially liked when Madame Vickers gets her just rewards.
From Katie:
I like chapter 25. it's funny. I really liked the part where they found their way out of the Wakefield House because it was kind of an exciting part to see them cli...more

This book is about how Roland Warvold is on a boat with Alexa Daley and he is telling them a story about his child hood. Roland and his brother Thomas ran away from this awful house that they had been living in run by this mean lady. they got captured while running away and sent in to a secret realm with a mountain lion and for some reason they can understand what she is saying. She goes back with her family in the mountains and Roland ans Thomas go to the Western kingdom because they found a no...more
I inadvertently started on the fourth book of a series, making it a little hard to follow some of the events in this book, but I admit I enjoyed reading this book, and it has made me interested in going back and starting from the beginning. The world has a subtle hint of magic that spices up the writing. The plot was a little transparent, but it still held me captive. I would have loved to hear more about different parts of the world, but I assume those details come more from the other books, so...more
The books in this series are not lengthy, but I feel that the story is a creative one with the main character/s (children) exhibiting strength of character and creative thinking which in my opinion makes it a good read for kids. It has been several years since I read the beginning of the series so reading this "Prelude" to the rest of the "The Land of Elyon" brought me back to speed so that I'm not lost while reading the actual "4th" book.
I read this book when I was in 5th grade when I didn't have any thing ealse to read. I read it again for a Language arts class this year.
The book is about two brothers adventure and the story is amazing. I would have to say that I would give the book two thumbs up. It shares a unique story like no other.
This book should be read by any one from a kid to an adult. It has adventure that both kids and adults may enjoy.

I didn't like this book as much as the others. This book is a prequel as well as continuation of the series. Alexa is on watery adventure with Yipes and Roland and Roland tells them tales from his and Thomas's childhood. But I found myself going in and out of attention while I read because while it had tons of action found in the others, I just wasn't nearly as interested in Thomas and Roland's life as I am in Alexa's.
But, once again, the book was beautifully written with rich language. I alway...more

This book is like a story in a story. Once again Alexa is with her friends on a boat when she finds a journal of the captain's. But the journal is the life of him Roland Warvold and his brother Thomas Warvold. It's pretty much the wild adventures they had when they were kids. This is a book for people who like more adventure and longer chapters.

A really good prequel to the Land of Elyon series! When I picked it up I was thinking Ok, this book doesnt look so great, but when I read it I was astounded! It has a mixture of Alexas and Thomas and Ron Warvolds points of views. This book is best to read after the series though because it kind of takes place after the Tenth City.
This is by far the best book in the series so far. Mr. Carman has introduced a new plot device to resolve the continuity/time line problems he introduced so far. He doesn't quite solve them completely, and there are still discontinuities and plot holes, but his writing style is definitely improving.
It was all right. The story of Thomas and Roland when they were little. I liked the boys well enough. The writing style was good but the dialogue and story were lacking. I was rather bored while reading it. Overall though, a nice companion book to "The Land of Elyon" series.
This continues the Elyon books (I thought that the trilogy ended it, but those were just the first three). In this Alexa is continuing on in her journey to battle the evil that is in the land. However this book is a little different because it goes back in time to tell the stories of two brothers in a time when the land was different. I liked the book although it was a tad bit slower moving than the others. It did give more insight and background to some of the characters that were in the first...more

This books was different from what I usually read, but I thought that it was good. I would like to read more from this series. ~Rachel (Fall 2009)
Alexa Daley, heroine of the Land of Elyon series is back with a new adventure in this first book. She and her friend Yipes have set sail into the unknown on the Warwick Beacon with Roland Warvold as their captain and the only one who knows where they are headed.
Before Roland can explain where they are going he must first tell Alexa and Yipes his history - the story of two brothers, orphaned and alone; and their courage on a journey filled with strange animals and places and even the appearance o...more
