The marginalia may be the best thing about this cookbook. The texture of the paper, the beautiful photographic layout, and the thematic grouping of menus (winter solstice, twelfth night, festival of light, haggis and a hooley, food of the gods, apres ski at the swiss chalet) make this an elegant book, despite such a utilitarian title. I want to photocopy a great number of recipes (let's make a date muffins; rustic winter stew; triple chocolate stuffed mocha cupcakes; honey-ginger carrot and pa

I don't normally sit and read a cookbook cover to cover, but I couldn't help myself with this cookbook. I've been a vegetarian for most of my adult life, so most of these recipes would require substitution of some kind (and let's face it, a couple of them will not be even nearly the same dish), but I still enjoyed the author's obvious love for food, taste, and entertaining during the colder months of the year. I found new ideas for livening up some of my own cooking repertoire, plus I found the

This cookbook is all I ask for: beautiful pictures, interesting recipes, a THEME, and dishes I can actually make (along with some I probably can't, but aren't so ridiculous that I can't dream.)
The book is divided into menus (such as "Hunting Party," "Guy Fawkes Day," and "First Snowfall") which makes it a little harder to find things, but I don't really care - I usually search using the index because I have an ingredient I need to use. I was pretty impr More...

Cookbooks always catch my eye when I pass the new books shelves the library and this one was particularly appealing on a cold snowy day. I took it home and pored over it, reading all the recipes and enjoying the pictures, as I usually do. However, unlike my usual behavior, I tried one of the recipes. Boy was it worth it! YUM!

Very nice - good pictures, could of had more pictures. The most enjoyable part were the tidbits of information surrounding the recipes; including songs to put on your podcast themed with the food!
Bravo!

I think I liked the idea of this one way more than its execution. Just too pretentious for me.

Interesting concept, but I wasn't that taken by the recipes or the way in which they were broken down.

This is the most gorgeous cookbook I've ever seen. From the quality of the photos to the feel of the pages to the little extra bits of knowledge tucked in here and there. Its really beautifully done. I need to try some of these recipes to see if they taste as good as they sound.

A very well-put together assortment of menus, recipes, and cooking information. I liked the inclusion of various international holidays and the focus on and descriptions of seasonal ingredients. It definitely puts you in mood for cooking during the colder months.

Great pictures; beautiful concept; and not a single recipe I would want to make. Too bad.
