I was given this book in 1976 by my kindergarten teacher and I still have it. I was always entranced by the illustrations, and while never really big on horses, the drawings of the flora and fauna always held me rapt.

I love McCarthy. It's just so raw, there's blood everywhere, yet random strangers still sit out and share their meager meals with one another in passing. It really puts you in touch with another world. I just wonder if there really ever was a world that felt like this one.
