I read this book many years ago and enjoyed it a lot.

It is about a pragmatically efficient London barrister living in a comfortably conventional manner. But his orderly life is disrupted by his involvement with a young man he defends in court – a demagogic, charismatic leader of a commune. Though very different, the two men are attracted to each other by a common dream of creating a new social and moral order.
