anyone who really wanted the first book to be good but was obviously disappointed...
Everything that the first book lacked, its sequel, Courtney Crumrin and the Coven of Mystics provides in spades. Honestly, I had pretty small expectations after reading the first book, so one might attribute my enthusiasm here to the fact that even a mediocre book could possibly excite me. Still, I don't think that is the case here.

The art in the second and third entries into this series seems to have improved from the first -- I remember getting slightly confused over what character was doing what in the first volume, but didn't encounter that in volumes 1 and 2. I must say, also, I am loving the characters, especially those that live in the Twilight Kingdom. The second book actually almost brought me to tears over the demise of a certain character, even!

Darker and less cute than the first book. This book made me a little sad because I wanted to give the series to my friend's daughter (she's 9) but after reading it I think I'll need to wait a year or two before it would be appropriate, the monster was rather scary and the ending was questionable.

I loved this second book and just discovered that the author did indeed illustrate for Gloomcookie. I just love the darker, gothier graphic novels like this. I think I'll start reading his other works as well.

Good for younger teens and tweens. No naughty language. Very cute.
