I thought the story would lose me since this book focuses quite a bit on the technical facet of the Psy and what makes them tick, and although complicated at times, I had no trouble keeping up. I am 100% invested in this series and these characters. Judd and Brenna’s story was different from the first two, as those focused more on the mating aspect and the sensual nature of the Changelings, and this one dealt with Brenna’s healing, Judd’s secret missions with the Ghost (who is he???) and the search for a killer. However, Judd and Brenna’s slow slide to their own intimacy and mating was quite sensual and the anticipation of what was to be left me anxious for them to overcome the barriers that were in their way. When they finally did figure out how they could be together sexually, it was passionate, loving and well worth the wait. As stoic as Judd was throughout the book, when it came to Brenna, this icy man was on fire!!

There are so many characters that I can’t wait to read about and fortunately for me, I’m a latecomer to this series, so there are many stories waiting to be read. I’m looking forward to Riley, Drew, Indigo, and Dorian’s books, but there is one character that has me literally drooling for his mating…HAWKE…and something tells me that his book is going to be GOOD!! God help me if I have to wait too long, because I might just peek to see who he ends up with, although I have a sneaking suspicion. I could be driven to breaking my rule of not reading out of order!!! GAAAAAAHH!!!

This is a unique, smartly written series which is more than the union of the two main characters. It’s an amazing world, where one race of non-feeling arrogant beings, deem themselves the superior race, and they pit themselves against creatures who live their lives passionately and with love. To the Changelings family is everything. It will be an interesting journey to see if the heart can outwit the mind.

Judd and Brenna's story - I wasn't sure how I could enjoy a story about a man as cold as Judd but Nalini Singh certainly wrote a great one! Judd turned out to be a very honorable man who wanted to feel but could not because he is unpredictable due to his psychic talents. One of my favourite books in the Psy-Changeling saga. This is the story of Judd (so Psy his got control on his control (also known as silence after the effect it has on silencing emotions)) and Brenna (damaged Snowdancer changeling). Besides the story between these two the empire that is the Psy world continues to develop, in this the third book.

Well, I was sucked in from the start and the thing I really like about this book is with every turn of the page something happens to keep you invested in the story, if it's not the incredible emotional (read sexual) tension between Judd ,who has been so locked into Silence that you really do wonder whether he can ever break free, and Brenna, who altho damaged by a Psy of the same designator as Judd, understands that there is something fundementally different about him, then it's the developing structure and politics taking place between the Psy Council.

It's really difficult to write a review for this without giving any spoilers as every part of this story is interwoven, from the Psy councils underhand attempts to cause chaos within the Changeling world to Judds secret life outside the Snowdancers Den.

The empire aside, Judd and Brenna are a perfect couple, Brenna recognizes that Judd is something more to her than a cold emotionless Psy and despite his reservations, in part due to the fact that his mind has been so cruelly conditioned to attack itself at the slightest hint of emotion Judd 'knows' the Brenna means something to him. As they come to understand the special relationship between them so Judds control starts to slide and in the moments when the control has slipped sufficient for him to think he realizes that there maybe a way forward. What follows could kill him but Judd takes the chance anyway, but will it be sufficient for Brenna who needs to 'find' a lost part of her being and also form a bond with Judd the love of her life?

The between the sheets scenes are slow in coming due to the incredible control 'silence' places on Judd , but when they do happen my goodness the pages sizzle with love, you could say the earth moves literally:)

This series ia a great read for anyone wanting more than just a romance story, the world created by Singh is multi layed and compelling to read about. I can't wait to read the next one.(less)

Wow! Just wow. What an amazing read. After reading it for the second time I definitely can say that this is still one of my fav books in the series. I mean, I love them all but this one and book 6 are the best. Not much to say about this book that hasn't been said already. What I can tell you is the reasons for why this is one of my fav.

Brenna Kincaid was a fearless, strong-willed Changeling wolf before she was abducted, brutally tortured, and mentally violated by a powerful, psychopathic Psy serial killer. Judd and Brenna are an extraordinary couple and my favorite of the series so far. Talk about two people who couldn’t seem more wrong for each other: him a cold, ruthless, emotionless killer worthy of an Anne Stuart Ice novel who is unaccustomed and uncomfortable with feeling, sensation, and touch and a fiery, spirited, loving, sensitive she-wolf who needs comfort, touch, and love like she needs air, food, and water. Their tentative, yet powerful relationship is moving, emotional, sexy, passionate, and tender, and it’s a beautiful story about two people who are intimately associated with pain, loneliness, suffering, and evil who through each other find light, happiness, peace, and love. The romance in this one is slow building, but boy oh boy, when Judd and Brenna finally get together...YOWZA...it’s turn down the A/C, need a glass of ice water hot! I’m talking sex so wild that the furniture goes flying, tables get broken, and the bed gets busted (he is telekinetic after all)...HOT!

It’s a fabulous third installment in a phenomenal paranormal romance series that’s truly original in a saturated genre and my favorite of the series so far. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy romance featuring sexy shifters and cold, alpha heroes who have their hearts defrosted by love. Big 5 stars!

I have to say I thought Visions of Vaughn was the shit in this series, but it’s like generic potato chips, its good but its no fucking Lays. Caressed by Ice is Lays and it almost killed me. I was two seconds away from wanting a cold hearted boyfriend. I wanted the challenge; I wanted to be caressed by ice. Therefore, the third instalment of this gripping and downright sinful series, I can honestly say the first book was ok for me. Since then it seems Miss Singh has put on her writing cap and she came at me hard. From the get go I was intrigued by the Psy/Changeling world. The ice cold unfeeling Psy, and the passionate changeling species.

Judd is an arrow and lives his life in complete silence. Silence is never showing emotion, all feeling and thoughts are completely cut of from everyone and even himself. Though he resides with the SnowDancer pack in order to protect his family, Judd still very much lives by the Psy rules. He is an ice-cold killer the best with his mind killing tricks. Until there was Brenna, she makes him want crazy warm things; she makes him feel and its becoming hard to stay away.

Brenna was mind raped by a psychotic Psy, so she feels like half the person she use to be. Everyone around her treats her like glass, they are over protective and Brenna is fed up. She just wants to go back and be the wolf she was before the crazy Psy took everything from her. There is only one person who makes her feel things again, and it’s Judd Lauren. Its weird how she would fall for a Psy after what she has been through, but Judd makes her feel safe and she really just wants to break the ice that is Judd.

Seems a war is a brewing and the Psy race is hitting the changelings where it hurts most, but they underestimate them. I believe it’s about to become and epic fight. Someone is out to destroy Brenna, and that shit is hitting closer to home. Its betrayal all over the place, but it fails in comparison to the walking sex that is Judd. Holy, hell I almost succumbed to a sex coma. Judd has happens to be one of my fave characters of the year, he was just all that and a bag of chips. I wanted to get up close and personal with this iceberg, cus sometimes ice do burn.

I read the last few pages on the bus, and I had to double check my seat or else it would have been one of those moments where “I jizzed in my pants”. Hey, bus driver clean up at the back of the bus. This world is unlike any, and if the rest of the series continues to be this amazing. Time to invest in some depends, because it’s about to become hot in here. The story is gripping, the characters are hot and interesting, just never a dull moment.

SideNote- I recommend this series in a big way, I am a true believer in all things Psy/Changeling.

I was really looking forward to this installment in the Psy-Changeling series, and I was not disappointed. It seems with each book the heroes become more alpha and the scenes more heated. Certainly that's true of Caressed by Ice.

(That name actually worked here because the hero is so cool and intelligent and aloof-- the antithesis of the stereotypical redneck, LOL. He dispels those images immediately.) It took some time f...more I was really looking forward to this installment in the Psy-Changeling series, and I was not disappointed. It seems with each book the heroes become more alpha and the scenes more heated. Certainly that's true of Caressed by Ice.

Judd Lauren. Wow. Who would have thought any man named Judd had it in him? (That name actually worked here because the hero is so cool and intelligent and aloof-- the antithesis of the stereotypical redneck, LOL. He dispels those images immediately.) It took some time for him to melt. Singh takes great pains to gradually grow the relationship between the hero and heroine and build the drama. That tension makes their coming together all the more convincing. And when Judd Lauren finally melts-- whew. (If anyone's read the Darkyn series by Lynn Viehl, Judd brings to mind some of the men from that series, like Lucan. *starry-eyed*) Now I see what all the fuss is about, LOL. Who would have thought the Ice Man had it in him? The gradual disintegration of his boundaries makes sense with Brenna steadily chipping away at his reserve and we learn that the Psy's inhuman campaign against emotion cannot suppress human nature after all.

It was also interesting to see more of the Psy and changeling worlds. The Psy rebellion continues as we're introduced to a new player in the game: the Ghost. I think the author will be hard pressed to write books for all these characters she introduces throughout her books. We want to know about each one. (After seeing Hawke in this book, I must read his book-- and Dorian-- and the Ghost-- and even Walker, LOL. It's all these mysteries, man. New ones every book.) We also learn more about the changelings. The non-predatory changelings make an appearance in this book, and it's really interesting to imagine the picture Singh paints: shapeshifting swans and deer and hyenas.

Probably the only part that annoyed me was some repetitiveness. The whole conflict with shrill Brenna's protective brothers: "Stop protecting me, I'm a big girl!" and then her brothers growl and repeat. It should have been trimmed down a little and there was a little too much lagging with Judd's internal dilemma. However, once the story moved past a certain point, the pace picked up again and both characters were much more interesting again. :D

I'm looking forward to the next book, Mine to Possess. (Note: It's best to read this series in order. Slave to Sensation is first. It'll give you an idea of her style though the later books are better, imo, especially since there's an overarching series plot in the next books.)(less)

Not much to add after so many glowing reviews. On a general level, I am liking this world a lot, but feel that, after reading the first three books so quickly, I need to slow down/pace myself. I'll probably take a break to get to some historicals in between this one and Clay's book. I was so eager to get to Judd's that I sped through books 1-3.

Not only the romance was inspiring but the developments in the general plot were pretty intriguing. I'm becoming more and more interested in the battle of wills between Psy and Changelings.

You will all say I didn't get the point of this series if I keep complaining about the fact that there's such a slow building that it always drives me insane and that it always leaves me cold. Ok, I'll concede that. But really, it became interested at the 75% mark and it was incredibly beautiful and hot for the last 9%.

So, um, wow. Even that is an understatement. LOL. I thought Lucas and Sascha were amazing but hell if Judd and Brenna just didn't just blow me away. I swear it's like Judd messed with my mind, I feel like I can't put any proper thoughts down, haha. This was such a nice change from the previou books, now with a psy and a female changeling. FANTASTIC SWEET SEXY AND MORE!!!!
I Don't know where to start, This book was Freaking Amazing!!!
I love Judd and Brenna so much that i cried laughed and got so mad at some stages of this book.

The author wrote an excellent, emotional and passionate romance between the cold, logical, extremely self-controlled Jude and the wolf heroine who had been previously kidnapped and tortured. Here I thought that the first two books in the series were good (and they were!) but Caressed by Ice surpasses them all! I adore Nalini Singh’s alternate world and although I’d be too chickenshit to actually live in it, I can still appreciate it. I love the politics that Singh incorporates in her stories. It makes the plot that much more richer and it definitely adds another layer to her already complex world!

Caressed By Ice is my favorite book so far in the Psy-Changeling series. I thought Judd was an interesting character in the previous books, although he was a small part in them. It was wonderful to see him have his own story. Especially one so full of ups and downs and fear and love.

She survived but she has felt damaged ever since despite the healing rituals she undergone with Sasha and Judd Lauren.Judd is a member of a family of Psy’s who defected earlier and joined the Snowdancer pack, in this book we learn that while still in the Psy world Judd was member of an elite of assassins who worked for the Council. The go through violent training since they are children and are even further conditioned by drugs to be the lethal weapons needed to erase those who oppose the powerful Council members especially Ming LeBon. He managed to retain his personality and when faced with the choice of abandoning his family and live or die with them he decides to abandon the Psy net and look for refuge with the Changelings. He is feared by them and usually keeps to himself but lately Brenna, the woman he helped Sasha heal after her ordeal, keeps coming closer and Judd is having a hard time keeping her at arm’s length.
Brenna has refused to continue the healing treatment but she is very much afraid that the Psy who kidnapped her may have left her with a part of him, a murderous part that leads her to have strange and terrifying dreams where she sees killings. I really liked Brenna not only because she is an interesting character but because she is the first Changeling female to be in the spotlight and I really enjoyed knowing the more feminine side of the changelings. She only feels safe when she is with Judd even if he is similar to the criminal who tortured her. The obstacles keeping the apart are many, not only because of whom they are but because Judd feels that he must maintain Silence to dominate his ugly, killer side. He actually feels that is he lets himself feel emotion he will be an uncontrollable killing machine. The problem is that although he knows he should stay away he just can't resist her.

Not only I enjoyed knowing a lot more about the Psys and especially Tk-Psys, I enjoyed the tortured hero side of the story as Brenna realizes much sooner that she doesn't want to give up on Judd no matter what, while he to be an Ice Man for a long time before accepting she is her fate. It was also very interesting to follow the process of him breaking Silence.

But someone is targeting Brenna and Judd, her brothers and Hawke will have to join forces to keep her safe. My only complaint of the story was that there was so much build up regarding who was targeting her that I was expecting something else in the end.

A wonderful read that may even be my favourite of the series so far along with STS. Now I want to know who will be Indigo’s mate and Walker’s and who is the Ghost??

I was resentful of how the first two books dealt with Psy females who were so emotionally damaged from the Silence Protocol (brainwashing that prevents all emotion), and then when we have a Psy male and a changeling female instead, it's still the female who's portrayed as the victim needing protection. Well...that's paranormal romance for you. As it turned out, Judd had his own fair share of problems so it wasn't quite as bad as I was anticipating, but Brenna's constant breakdowns, irrationality and fixation on Judd got on my nerves. Yeah, I know she has to fixate on Judd for the book to work, but it was distasteful to watch. Also, there was a big discrepancy between the way the characters were described by the narrative and what they were actually like. It was constantly emphasized how Judd was totally Silent and his will was so strong and he was so closed off, but he made very little attempt to resist Brenna's advances. As for Brenna, okay okay I know she was tortured and traumatized, but I got sick of how we were always being told how astoundingly strong she was when she kept on freaking out and doubting her sanity and going to Judd for hugs. Probably my biggest complaint was the over-the-top generic stuff that keeps on appearing in these books. The "she was so good and pure but he was full of darkness" crap. I mean, fine, let him be full of darkness, but in that case, at least have him kill a few people in a gory way to prove it... Judd threatened plenty of people in this book, but I don't remember him killing anyone. Oh, and another thing. Brenna, halfway through the book, turns out to be some kind of computer genius? Yeah right. It felt like the author was throwing us a bone. Well, that's paranormal romance for you.

That said...I am REALLY looking forward to the next book!! It tells the story of Clay and some woman named Talin. I read the excerpt of it included at the back of this book and it sounds great. The excerpt for Caressed By Ice that was included at the back of the second in the series didn't leave me nearly so excited. At the same time though, I feel a bit cheated. I've been really really looking forward to this book. Now after months of anticipation, I got it, read it in an afternoon, only moderately enjoyed it, and now just like that I'm back to eagerly waiting for the next one. It's a vicious cycle.(less)

Every word and every look is pure something whether it makes sense or not—basic knowledge of chemistry does not help—and the sex scenes are oh so clichéd as they can be. Heaven forbid a woman be comfortable with male nudity even if she'd grown up in the midst of shapeshifters who are always losing their clothes. At this point I’m just glad I didn’t go to medical school because who knows what I would have to say about the heart surgery scene.

I simply adore Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling series.The first book, Slave to Sensation, grabbed my attention. I can appreciate complicated story lines and the Psy/Changeling series initially takes some concentration to grasp an understanding of the various role players.

Admittedly, in this series as with others, there are books that I liked and books that I loved. Caressed by Ice definitely falls within the “books I loved” category. Nalini Singh has managed to capture in these books, the absolute connection the changelings have with each other, their love and loyalty. The other factor that I find simply enchanting is the bond that is formed when a mate is chosen. The changeling men are very macho but are almost always depicted as having a soft side. If this was not the case, they would simply work on my nerves. In the first two books the focus was on the “cat changelings”. The focus has shifted and we get insight into the inner workings of the “wolf changelings”. Both changeling societies have an appreciation for strong women but as mentioned previously the men are very dominant and macho. This is countered by their vulnerability with their mates.

Caressed by Ice is the story of Brenna and Judd. Brenna has experienced an event that is so awful that she is attempting to claw her way back to normalcy. Her mind was violated by a powerful Psy and she is afraid that he has changed her fundamentally. Judd was an elite soldier in the Psy army, an assassin with abilities that many speculate about. Even the changeling Alpha, Hawk, does not entirely trust him.

Brenna is drawn to Judd despite his chilling persona. He embodies all that is Psy, logic, calculation and a lack of emotion. Although she is damaged, at heart Brenna is a changeling - sensual and emotional. Brenna believes that with her forever changed; Judd is the only person that can identify with what she has become. Their contrasting worlds collide and with it the hope is born that these two people can save each other.

I am attracted to the manner in which the Changeling social structure is depicted. Not only in this book, but the others I have read. Nalini Singh has the ability to leave us in no doubt about the vast differences in the two societies. I will not let the cat out of the bag but there are others factors that hinder Brenna and Judd from simply getting together. All will be revealed in the book.

If you enjoy books that are well written, complex without causing a stomach ulcer and ultimately a great love story, then attempt this book. I love it.

My favorite so far in the series. Loved how Brenna pushed back against all the overprotective males in her life. Felt her connection with Judd was natural considering how he helped early on during her healing process and then later always knew when to push her to face things and when to back off. Brenna and Judd were introduced to us in the first book, Slave to Sensation. Brenna having been a victim of Psy Councilor Santano Enrique's sadistic plans, while Judd and his family, after dropping out of the Psy-Net following his sister's suicide, were fortunate enough to have been given sanctuary by the SnowDancer pack.

While a little bit of time has passed since Brenna was rescued, she has still not completely recovered from her ordeal - now she also seems to have the ability to see peoples dreams. Santano Enrique appears to have altered Brenna in a way that cannot be reversed. When a member of the SnowDancer pack is brutally tortured and murdered, Brenna begins to fear that she is slowly losing her mind and becoming like the monster she was rescued from.

Judd appears to be the only person who can reach Brenna. He is the only person she feels she can talk to. Though Judd has his own demons to fight he is determined to protect Brenna, even from himself. Despite his Psy control she is slowly breaking through his barriers. His loss of control, the release of emotions that could be deadly, could have devastating consequences.

I love alpha males, and this is why the Psy-Changeling series appeals to me so much, but I also love heroes that can seem very self-contained, cold, distant and emotionless. These are the heroes that you really need to look deep below the surface in order to know and love. Judd's Psy upbringing makes him appear as though he is the 'ice man', especially when compared to the open affection shown by the Changelings.

I absolutely loved Judd, and Brenna is such a good match for him. He might not appear to show much emotion or affection for Brenna in public, but you know that it is there for Brenna to see - you just need to look a little bit deeper for it, and you know his love for her will be fully evident when they have their moments of privacy. It is lovely to see Brenna so happy after everything that she has gone through - she is a lot stronger than she thinks she is.

Prior to reading this book, Vaughn (Visions of Heat) and Dorian (book still to come) were my equal favourites. Judd is now a very close second!

Every time I read a new installment, or re-read an existing book in this series, I fall in love with this world and the characters all over again. Caressed By Ice could probably be read as a stand-alone book, but you get a better perspective and appreciation for this series, and the journey that Brenna and Judd have been on, if you read the books in order - Slave To Sensation (book 1) and Visions Of Heat (book 2). The three books written so far are strong, well-written stories. I hope this series goes on for a long, long time.

It was great to see a little insight into his cold Psy mind, and to watch as slow and steadily, Brenna began to thaw it out. Although these novels are very steamy, I am not quite sure if they qualify as erotica - the first sex scene is a decent length into the novel and then it lasts 15 pages. Fifteen pages! Despite its length, Singh's attention to detail - specifically emotion and light humour over cold, biological descriptions, makes for rather an enticing read. Her writing style in general is far superior to other, recent and popular erotica novels (which shall go unnamed) and her characters are much stronger and easier to empathise with. Her females are generally strong, although still varying enough in personality to mark them all as individual entities, and because each book concerns a different pairing, it is always interesting to "see" one book's title pairing from a different perspective further through the series. I think, however, one of the strongest drawcards for me to this series - in terms of relationships - that Singh favours monogamy. Changelings mate for life and the bond established between them - even when only one of the pair is Changeling, is fierce.

Indeed, my only complaint is that the hyenas got a bit of a bad rap. I don't like hyenas being the villains and labelled as cowards. Still, at least she didn't make them hermaphrodites. I would like to see a predator/prey pairing - a wolf Changeling with a deer perhaps? I imagine the male deer Changelings would be quite fierce and protective of their mates. Or would they have harems?(less)
