This was a great, quick read that was kind of scary. It centered upon a serial killer, Larry Mules who ripped the hearts out of females. The killer escapes from prison and sets out to haunt and torment the lead Homicide Investigator, Detective Callow. The detective's own wife died at the hands of Mules and Callow is left with his thirteen year old daughter to raise himself and is now struggling with his belief in God. He had been given the ultimate gift: a heart in a box. Too bad it was his wife's.

And so begins our story of New Orleans' detective, his friends and his daughter trying to deal with tragedy, bring down the killer they have already caught once and decide how he can be many places at once. All the while trying to restore his belief in a Being who let his wife be killed.

This is a dark novel that totally fits the cover of the book. What type of person would mail hearts in ziploc bags to people? What
