This guy repeats himself over, and over and over and over again, for the entire book. I don't know why he bothers with chapters when a little pamplet would have done nicely.

I tink that Jole Osteen is more of a motivational speaker. I belive he has a love for GOd, please don't get me wrong, however I do think that he is to focused on positive thinking. He says over and over again that if you think it, and believe it enough, than God will provide it. I don't necessarily belive that to be true. There are many bad things that happen to good people, and I belive there is a purpose and a plan for everything under HEaven, just like the Bible says.... you have to take the ...more

Joel is the pastor of Lakewood Church here in Houston. My father was a big fan of his father's - John Osteen, and our whole family would pile up on Sunday and drive out to hear him preach. Now Joel has taken over (John Osteen passed away) and his following is about 45,000 strong every Sunday, and he broadcasts around the world. This book is very uplifting and Joel tells us how God wants more for us than our minds are allowing, and how we can change that.

It's a Christian motivational book. It's like nothing I would normally read. I watch the Jesus channels on tv with morbid fascination. I do not find them particularly spiritually uplifting; I find them kind of scary. But Joel Osteen is a good person with common-sense things to say to people. I liked his book because it made me feel optimistic.

a God has ordained seasons in your life. It’s easy to get frustrated when our dreams aren’t coming to pass on our timetable. When that happens, we have to submit our plans to Him and trust that He has a better plan. Understand that in God’s Kingdom, every season is not harvest. There are plowing ...more

I wasn't even going to add this book to my Goodreads list, but after my blog entry today that discussed parts of it, I decided to just go ahead.

I never would have read this book if my mother hadn't sent it to me. When I opened the FedEx package she sent, I thought “Oh no, why did she send this, if I’m not even going to read it.” But then I started it, and it’s got a really good message. It’s kind of like The Secret, which was such an important book and movie for me, but with God. ...more

I think Joel Osteen is an incredibly gifted motivational speaker who intersperses some pieces of gospel into his discussions, as opposed to an incredibly gifted pastor who is able to motivate his congregation. I like him because he's a "laid back" person, and I think he's a great introduction into religion -- especially for people who may have been lacking it in their lives, or people who are new to the ways of the Bible. But I'd proffer to say that any good solid Christian who lives a...more

I read this book because it is central to my dissertation research of the Prosperity Gospel. Had it not been, I never would have picked it up, and I cannot recommend it, either. Most of the views put forth by Pastor Osteen are at best heterodox to what most would consider the core of traditional, orthodox Christianity; at worst—and probably more correctly—they are heretical. The self-centered focus of the “steps,” not to mention the title, of this book place it outside the teachings o...more

I loved this book for it's upbeat encouragement that God has only good planned for you. You have to get on board and believe that's a true statement, and then you have to go into the world with confidence knowing that the Lord is in charge and working on your behalf.

I found that reading this book helped me to continue to believe God for good things and to realize my part in believing. It's practical, good natured, and contains humor but respect for where people are in their faith walk.

I have nothing against this book except the fact that it is the same old motivational, self improvement techniques found in a thousand other books. It is simply repackaged and marketed for the Christian community.

I do like Joel's positive message of Christianity. I long ago left churches that made you feel beat down and guilty after you leave the service.

However, throughout this book I kept wondering "Is he going to share something I don't already know?" It never happened.

My mom bought me this book for Christmas--I think it's funny that she is buying me self-help books. I read part of it, but I feel like I've read this book before. While it was good, its just another motivation book that tells you to get off your butt and do something with your life in a pseudo-inspiring and positive way. We all know they write these books for profit. Off course, there's the pessimist in me again. Sorry folks! It is really upbeat though!

Sefanit
He repeats himself OVER & OVER again. Some of his suggestions are realistic and obvious but the repetition was driving me crazy. I had a hard time relating to a lot of the spiritual stuff and a number of times caught myself skimming through sections where I felt like I had seen the same sentences in a previous chapter. The whole time I was wondering why I had bought it and was forcing my self to finish it. He may be a great preacher but an author he is not!

We have to conceive it on the inside before we receive it on the outside

When God is on your side, you cannot possibly lose.

“Father, I thank you that I have your favor. Your favor is opening doors of opportunity for me. Your favor is bringing success into my life. Your favor is causing people to want to help me.”

Get up each day expecting good things. Start expecting God’s favor. Start expecting his blessings. Be excited about today.

I love Joel Osteen and don't know why as I am not a Christian by most religious standards. I find him to be very positive, affirming and just uplifting. My husband and I watch him on Sunday mornings and I always find some gem in his speech to carry me through the week. His book is the same. Not too preachy...just enough religion to help apply principles. I don;s feel lectured too in any way which is my reservation with most religious literature.

A good book. A book that shows a christian/someone whom his/her life is stand still or down. This book show you how to elevate your mind into another level. Instead feeling sorry for yourself it's teach you to change your way of thinking, destroy your own limitation that your mind has set and see the blessing from God pouring down on you.

Read this book to see an alternative of living your life. It's truly inspiring.

I've never been overly religious and for a while didn't claim any religion, clinging to secular life over spiritual life. Mr. Osteen doesn't force anything. He is very positive and motivates people through use of modern parables and up to date ideas. In the 2 years I've watched Joel on TV and from his books, I've become a better person. Anyone who reads Joel's books will surely find something of value.

I'm not a big church goer, so I love to watch Joel Osteen's broadcast every week. He has a personality exactly like I think God would have...inspiring, kind, gentle, and forgiving of wrongs. We spend so much time on this earth tearing ourselves down and others apart. Even if you don't believe in God, Joel is good for you. It is good for people to be positive even if it is not always easy.

This book literally changed my life and the way I experience my relationship with God.

Joel Osteen's warm, friendly, manner makes for easy, enjoyable reading. Some criticize him for preaching "prosperity gospel," but I don't see it that way. He opened a door for me to understand that God wants us to enjoy our lives in all ways, through Him.

Inspirational and uplifting.
