"I'm not going out there," declares the little boy in this hilarious, rhyming story. But what is frightening him? It's not the dragon breathing smoke in the living room. Or the ghost snacking on toast and chocolate in the kitchen. The witches in the bathroom are too busy washing their dirty underwear to bother anyone. And the monsters performing ballet exercises in the bed ...more

My dragon, monster, and Halloween loving little boy ate this book up!

I found this to be a great read! I can definitely see this book being read to a student who may not be getting much sleep at night and telling his teacher because he is afraid of something in his room. This book truly shows the imagination of students of what they feel is "hiding" in their rooms, but usually turns out to simply be a figment of their imagination. Our narrator is currently cowering under his bed and absolutely, positively, not going to dare going out! Something has him spooked. But what could it be? He's not afraid of the dragon, the ghost, the witches, or even the monsters creeping around his house,...so what could drive him under his bed tonight?

When you find out, you'll laugh, and agree with his decision to stay put.

A good rhyming book for students. A surprise ending is great for inferring or making predictions.

Cute story. With all the things that could scare a little guy, the surprise at the end is just what is so scary that makes the main character stay under his bed. Fun language, the meter bobbles only occasionally, and the finish is just right.

This was read today at story session at the library and the class of special needs kids loved it. One child who can always pick the ending was stumped with this one, and another child who is usually fairly subdued was very excited.

What makes this little boy so nervous? I'm not going to spoil it here, but I would be afraid too. I love the rhyming and the pictures in this book, and kids love it too. When I read it at story time, the kids were laughing aloud.

Really fun to read out loud. Nice meter, lots of things kids a typically scared of with a surprise at the end. Fun pictures.

I saw the twist ending coming. A month later, the twist is all I remember.
