I absolutely adore Splat. If you haven't read SPLAT THE CAT, I highly recommend doing so, even though you don't have to do it before enjoying LOVE, SPLAT.

Splat is determined that today will be perfect. After all, it's Valentine's Day, and he's got a certain someone on his mind - a snowy white cat, with pea green eyes, named Kitten.

But when he runs into Kitten on the way to school (literally), he's too nervous to give her t...more

While the story was a little inane, at least it had a decent moral, although I don't know if it's too mushy-gushy for kids or not. I like the fuzziness of the cats in the illustrations but found it weird that Splat is the only black cat in a white cat world. Perhaps I should have read the first Splat book first- maybe then it would make more sense.

Review will be posted at Owl Tell You About It around Valentine's Day.

CUTE CUTE CUTE! Splat steals my heart a little more with every book I read, but this one really takes the cake. I mean, what is more adorable than an insecure Splat who really likes a girl. There’s a little of that typical child affection. Kitten pokes Splat belly and ties his tail in knots. Of course, Splat thinks it’s because she doesn’t like him. Then he get her card and reads her poem! The whole time that Splat is trying t...more

Ah, young love... This is a cute story about Splat's crush on a little white kitten, named, Kitten. The story is fun and the illustrations are terrific. We laughed at the various designs and contortions that his tail would get in and we discussed how Spike was being a bit of a mean show-off. The ending is sweet and we loved the rhyming poem at the end. We took turns reading this narrative and we really enjoyed reading it together. I liked this book better than the original tale, Splat the Cat.

It took us three tries to get through this because of interruptions but we finally made it. We both really like these Splat books - the illustrations are so funny! Splat is just so darn adorable it hurts.
The big heart on the cover didn't really clue me in to the fact that this is a Valentine's Day book so if you're as clueless as I am just be aware. Not that it has to be read around that particular holiday. We're a few days before Halloween and we liked it just fine.

This book is so cute. It is the story of Splat a cat. He is in love with Kitten. On Valentines day he writes her a valentine card but every time he sees her he runs right into her. She pulls his tale and pokes his belly. He feels so silly whenever he is around her. After he gets into a "who is better" war with another cat at school he is feeling really down about Kitten. But she finds his valentines card in the trash and gives him, her valentines card. In the end they realize how much they like...more

Very cute. read it to the Toddlers at storytime.

This is the one my niece picked to download on to the Nook. Funny thing about Splat. He's not all that likable ... a little self-centered, usually (thinking of the Christmas book, for sure).

BUT this one is pretty cute. He makes a valentine for Kitten ... and then discovers the class bully has done the same.

Love the illustrations. The cats are cute (and I don't like cats ... they make me sneeze!), the mouse is cute, it's just all cute.

Overloading on the word cute--the nighttime Tylenol is kicking...more

The next time you're frantically looking for Valentine's Day Books, check out Love, Splat. First of all, there's the title. I mean really, who can resist the title? Secondly, it's this cute little story about a cat who feels like his valentine isn't good enough for the cute little cat he has his eye on-really-it's enough to make you vomit, but it is -word of the day-cute. The illustrations make all the "cuteness" bearable-and really-who doesn't enjoy a story about the underdog on Valentine's Day...more

I just got this book from our school book fair! Love my classroom parents. :)

I read this at the end of the day on Friday when we were getting ready to go home for the weekend. It is the story of Splat, who I love, and his crush on Kitten. There is another cat at school who also has a crush on Kitten, which gets Splat down, but he triumphs in the end (sorry for the spoiler there, haha!)

I know there is an entire Love, Splat unit in the blog world, and maybe I will look into that for next year!

Splat the Cat is at it again. This time he is in love. It's Valentine's Day at school and this little fuzzy worry wort has a crush on a certain cat in his class. Before he goes off to school he spends time making sure he is well groomed. When he sees this special kitty his tongued gets tied. Follow Splat's fun adventure of love. Your kids will enjoy reading about Splat.

The illustrations are awesome. They invite you and and tell the story in a special and vivid way

This is a must have for Splat fans! Being the big Splat fans we are (meaning my kiddos and I), we couldn't wait to sit down and read this book when it arrived. Splat is so excited for Valentine's Day, because he's finally mustered up the courage to give his special Valentine to his crush, Kitten. Splat and Kitten have a really cute, innocent childhood friendship/crush on each other, which makes this story all the more adorable. I love that both Splat and Kitten made each other special Valentine'...more

Kids love this hilariously sweet and honest story. This Splat the Cat book tells of Splat's crush on Kitten. Splat's many attempts to tell Kitten that he likes her on Valentine's Day don't go as planned when a mean cat decides he likes Kitten too! Not to mention that Splat can't figure out why Kitten always teases him, pulling on his ears and tying his tail in a knot! Will Splat ever be able to tell Kitten as he feels? Will Kitten like him too?

Splat the cat is back for another school-related story. It's Valentine's Day and he likes Kitten, a fluffy white cat with beautiful pea colored eyes, but she keeps poking him and tying his tail in a knot. To make matters worse another cat adores Kitten just as much as Splat.

I enjoy the round fluffy illustrations and warm colored illustrations, as well as, the meekness of Splat. Not cheesy like most Valentine's stories. Great book.

An amusing Valentine's Day for Splat. Kitten is the bane of his existance, but he doesn't understand her. She pokes him in the stomach, ties his tail, complains that he smells bad etc. However Splat ikes her and writes her a Valentine, which he is then afraid to give her. She reads it and gives him hers... ah, young love. Maddie loved it and was clutching the book to her chest.

Just a simple, fun story of boy likes girl. Boy thinks he isn’t the cat’s meow or is he? I enjoyed seeing the journey that Splat went on from grooming himself in the morning, to knocking down Kitten by mistake, to competing with Spike about who likes Kitten more, to watching Splat feel down trodden and then learning everything isn’t what it seems. This is a book full of heart.

Rob Scotton does a brilliant pairing of descriptive, short text with colorful, funny illustrations. I love how you can se...more

I bought this for my three year old. One of the cutest children's books I have read. And that's saying a lot, because as far as my cuteness meter goes, children's books is pretty much at the top of it. That and sassy little girls in heart sunglasses, and chubby baby hands.

Splat has a special Valentine to deliver but is afraid of giving it to his longed-for kitty-friend because of how she teases him--and, then, he learns there's someone else with a bigger, better Valentine for Kitten. The cat illustrations are full of expression--just fun.

I like Scotton's Russell the Sheep, but wasn't crazy about the first Splat book. Maybe it was the first-day-of-school storyline, but it was really unmemorable. I did like this one though- it's sweet, has adorable illustrations and a simple story that I found rather endearing.

I guess it's time to do a Rob Scotton lesson as I have enjoyed Russell the Sheep and other Splat stories and do think this will be fun for Valentine's Day. The illustrations and humor remind me of Melenie Watts and I wonder if they are acquainted.

My kids have an odd fascination with cats, so this is perfect for them. Fun valentine's day story about a cat and his crush. The illustrations are super fun and the story is good too, funny and even a little deep. Love it.

I think this is just about the cutest book ever and great to read during valentines day.I loved the story. I became so attached to Splat and now I just want to read all of his books. I think I am officially in love with splat.

My favorite thing about Splat are his hilarious facial expressions. Splat doesn't disappoint in this one, especially since he has his first crush! Fans of Splat will enjoy this one!

I like this one, though, again, romance in elementary and preschool books? But whatever, overall it's a good story, would be a decent read aloud for storytime with the illustrations and some repetition.
Kendall
I read this book to three 1st grades in one day. They loved it, I loved it. It is sweet, the illustrations create more complex characters, and the ending makes your heart beat a little faster.

Was a cute valentine's day book. I like how Splat's friend is a mouse. Shows that even if you care about someone, you should tell them, regardless if you think others care more about that person.

I truly enjoyed meeting Splat! The illustrations are adorable and quirky and cuddly and fun--and it features cats, so what's not to love!? The story is nice, too. I am not overly fond of Valentine's stories set in kiddie classrooms but managed to overcome my aversion and enjoy this one. It's pretty typical (boy likes girl, boy thinks girl hates him, but girl actually likes boy, rival boy appears, first boy gets scared, but true love wins in the end) but the illustrations make this version notewo...more
