Just finished book one - Fadeout. It's a little predictable in places, but nonetheless very interesting and enjoyable. Dave Brandstetter is likable, but at this point still a little bland, despite his tragic backstory. I like how there's no big fuss made about his sexuality - his deceased partner was indeed male - but it's not the focus of the story. He's a detective who just happens to be gay.

I really enjoyed this series. Covering twenty years of the life of an out gay detective from the 70s through the 90s gives an interesting perspective, as gays are shown as just like everyone else. No more venal than anyone else.
