This story can make you furious, but the way it is written is great. It tells the tragic story of a beautiful Sofka, who marries a twelve-year-old boy to save her family from financial ruin and the life in southern Serbia after the liberation from the centuries-long Ottoman rule in 1875.

If this book is translated in English, it should be read by you immediately, because it is not one of the best books, but THE best book I have ever read.

I learned that people were sick in the past and remained sick in the present...

I finished this book yesterday night. For one more time Balkan and especially Serbian literature didn't disappoint me. Well, it is not one of the best Serbian books I have read so far, but still, I think it's a pretty good book that didn't tire me at all. Like almost all books I have read and coming from the neighbor countries,in this one as well its language seemed to me very familiar and its topic pretty interesting. It focuses in social life of women in general and the plot takes place in sou...more

Ugh. Could not finsih. I tried many times.
