The older I get, the more disenchanted I become with Michael Moore. I don't consider myself a conservative by any stretch of the imagination, but his kind of activism is indicative of what's wrong with a lot of liberal activism- narcissism. He's so absorbed with his own righteousness -and the fact that so many people in his audience with reinforce his righteousness with blind praise and little analysis- that the causes he supposedly stands for are beside the point. Some might say this is giving ...more

This was the beginning of the end with my love affair with the left. Typical angry Moore makes some good points, but Moore doesn't think about the long-term consequences of his ideas. I can respect that Moore doesn't like corporations or conservatives or George W. Bush, but he really needs to reconsider how he attacks the other side, saying that someone is only a conservative because they wants lower taxes cheapens the ideas of conservative thought that have contributed to Moore's ability to w...more

I like Michael Moore's writing more than his documentaries. He's got a relaxed, fun style with a surprising amount of depth beneath it. The book is a bit reactionary in parts (moreso than Stupid White Men), but it was an enjoyable read and well documented and researched.

If you've read any other Michael Moore, you've read the 1st few chapters already. Some portions are literally ad verbatum to other works.
After seeing the Canadian documentary on him, what esteem I had despite disagreeing on certain points is all but gone. I like to know what he's putting out so I can be prepared when someone who's never questioned his ethics or stances brings them up. It's hard though because a lot of me wants to agree with him, wants to be able to take what he says at face...more

I loved this book, and I would reommend it to anyone who has ever felt frustrated with George W. Bush and his administration. I would especially recommend it to anyone who is a fan of George W. Bush (if there are any left) and conservative republicans. Dude Where's My Country investigates the events leading up to and following the 9/11 attacks, the Bush Family's long time friendship with the Saudi Arabian Royal Family, the environment, and what we as a people can do to take back our country. At...more

This book is overall anti-Bush, anti-republican. The author’s tone is of sarcasm and is towards getting some laughs; however, it defeats the purpose. It is probably ok to have the tone while making a point in a video, as is seen in his movie Sicko; however, had this book been better written, a thorough study of the subject indicated by the non-standard format bibliography / reference, would have been more effective. Independent of whether I agree or not with the thoughts, the book is bad to...more

The book Dude, Where’s My Country? by Michael Moore, is written in the exact style that the title depicts. It is a very laid back, informally written book. However, underneath all the jokes, sarcasm, and the ridiculous chapter from “G-d”, Moore is providing a lot of insight into the 9/11 case, the ties between Bush and the Bin Laden families, and the corruptness of big corporations. The book also urges and declares that George W. Bush should not be reelected in 2004, leaving me with a hel...more

I'm independent. I don't buy the politics that anyone is shoveling - right or left. Being a person that keeps a finger on the pulse of world events and politics, I nevertheless enjoy reading up on what people believe about the world (or would like you to thing they believe). I always appreciate it if the approach is humorous and especially politically incorrect.

as usual, Moore's renditions are over the top and offensive but at the core there is a point made, one just has to be in the right frame of mind to 'get it'.

I had just finished reading a right wing book so I decided to balance it with a left wing book. Moore rips the Republicans a new one and backs it up with facts. That being said he also goes extreme left with some ideas. The problem is Moore is the left-wings answer to Fox News so I need to take everything with a grain of salt. But all in all a good read.

Funny, irreverent, a bit passe at this point, but an important reminder of why it was so, so important that George W. Bush not be elected in 2004. Fifty percent of you didn't get that message when it mattered, and a good chunk of you regret that you didn't get it then but will make it again with McCain because "he's different." Here's an opportunity to review all the travesties Bush heaped on us in his first term.

I don’t like how America trotting around into other countries, showing of their muscle, claiming for superiority. This guy do have some good points but too many times he got to personal, bitching around about bush every now and then, trying to fill up the pages and it only make him sounds like a gullible tuk tuk driver, craving for a bit of self-worth by getting involved in a political conversation.

This high rating is really less for the actual content of the book and more so for the fact that listenting to it on the way to work was totally entertaining. I really enjoyed it. Admittedly, Michael Moore is not the most objective of authors... and his over the top extreme left views are even a bit much for me (believe it or not), but he is funny. And he certainly has some valid/interesting criticisms of our society, especially in comparison to other industrialized nations. Too bad all his cam...more

This is definitely a preaching to the choir sort of book, as no one who disagrees with Moore's politics will ever read more than a few lines without being totally offended and pissed off with him, because his style is so sarcastic. But if you read it with a sense of humor and appreciation of his unique style, you can find some good and infuriating information in it that will make you even more eager to see the Bush administration finally come to an end. Not good bedtime reading, but a good one...more

My favorite part of this book is when Moore talks about how he would use the extra money he got from the Bush tax cut (Moore, being a rich guy, got lots of money from the government while the poorest in the nation got none) to defeat Bush in the 2004 election. Moore said that he would donate the maximum legal amount to the campaign of the candidate he thought to most able to defeat Bush. He said that he would also do this in congressional races against conservative candidates. The funny thing...more

Fans of the two-party system
While I admire Moore for his take on health care and his ability to provoke thought, his politics are typical of mainstream liberal democratic media seekers along the lines of Maher and Frankin....preaching worthless rhetoric to sell books and venting ideas that will never truly shake up the system. I used to think I learned alot by listening to these guys. I now realize they only contribute to the dumbing-down of America by asking the wrong questions. Dude, you want to know where your country ...more
