So, I just bought this book from online shop which usually sell many used books. The price is cheap. Just 50000 rupiahs or maybe 4,99 dollars. I decide to read Charming the Prince, first because I really love the blurb, its rare to find character letter for a synopsis. And I'm kinda stuck with UF/PNR books I read lately. So I want to change my usual genre for a little :)

I don't now why I picked this book up. After all, I know I don't like totally anachronistic books - I can take feisty heroines and PC heroes that are ahead of their time (people like that existed even if they weren't the majority) - but when the books go all out trying to portray a modern story in past times, they really lose me.
The book is not getting a worse rating because I chuckled at times. The purple prose using "medieval" terms was hysterical - I've never heard a vagina being referred as...more

This wasn't the funniest historical romance I've read, or the most romantic, or even the sexiest. But it was hopelessly sweet and full of truly loveable characters. That's where it got me.
It's a little lame sometimes with the somewhat flowery language but pretty much all historical romances are at least a little bit lame in some regard. The sexy scenes are pretty laughable as well but again, they usually are.

As soon as I stop reminding myself that the events in this book take place in 1300s, then the characters' notions on marriage and sex (especially that) and such start to sound really silly. Having in mind the time, it can pass as a nice story for those who like a fairy tale flavour.
The first time we see Sir Bannor, he is running away from something. You get the impression he is under siege.

OMG! I liked this!
At first when I started liking it I felt like I was betraying myself because I,by default ,HATE heroes in HR that have bastards.
This one DID NOT HAVE THEM! He just took what ever kids because he was a bastard. Cute, right?
I know I'm weird because of all this but there is just something that puts me of when it comes to heroes that abhor any kind of prevention.
The book was really cute and lovable.

Sigh*****
I am skeptical in the first place when this novel is based on Cinderella story. I do find Cinderella is weak, and hopelessly believe herself in love with her prince. I still could not get over the glass slipper thing, when only ONE maiden can fit the slipper.
And so, reading recommendation from Teresa Medeiros' fans, I started reading the book. I was pleasantly surprised.

I love books that can make me laugh and I love books that can make me cry. This one did both! It has kind of a Cinderella beginning. A widow with a little girl marries and when she shows up, she has not only 2 wicked step-siblings for the little girl, but a whole carriage full of them. The father doesn't die and leave her alone with this dastardly crowd, he just doesn't defend her against them when they turn her into their slave. Thirteen years later she agrees to marry a man she's never seen to...more
Willow's father remarries for money when Willow was a child. Her new stepmother treats her poorly, and already has a brood of her own, then more children with her new husband. Willow ends up raising them and is treated equally bad by her step siblings.

I enjoyed this book. I love historical romances, but that is not why I liked this book. In fact, in order to enjoy the book I had to let that go. What I like about historical novels -- good ones -- is being immersed in a different time and place, losing myself into a whole new world while learning a little bit about that time. I won't say there were glaring inaccuracies in this novel because I am not a historian so wouldn't know the facts. However, I have read enough historical books t...more

I came across this book while browsing Barnes & Noble’s website. I was chomping at the bit for something new to read, but my mood was more finicky than usual. The novels on my to-read list on Shelfari just weren’t doing it for me, and I was now perusing the romance section at random. This book popped up in one of those “readers who looked at the book you clicked on also picked THIS”, and I was intrigued by the premise. I downloaded a sample and off I went…never looking back.

I'm really enjoying reading my way through Teresa Medeiros' booklist. Lord Banner the Bold, Master of Elisnore, pride of the English and terror of the French, was a prisoner in his own castle, being held captive by his own children, all 12 of them.
He decides that he needs a new wife to take them under her wing, but one that he won't be tempted by, so that he doesn't increase his brood.
He sends his trusted steward off to find himself such a bride.
Sir Hollis returns with Lady Willow of Bedlington,...more

Sir Bannor the Bold, a rough-hewn warrior who battled the French dauntlessly for 14 years. But Bannor's secret is that he is truly terrified of his 12 (count 'em, 12) motherless children who have run wild for years, tormenting all of the residents of his keep. At his wit's end (and barricaded in a tower), the exhausted lord dispatches his man to find a new wife to manage his brood, hopefully without adding to it!!! Bannor seeks a wife who is everything his children are not--quiet, biddable, and...more
I thought this book was just charming, as the title suggests. Right off from the beginning the story pulls emotion from the reader. And the first chapter had me laughing. I think this was a very sweet book about self discovery, love, family, and learning to have confidence in yourself. I loved the main characters in this story. The villains in the story lived up to their role in the story. The only issue I had with it at all, was at the end, there is a climatic point to the story involving the m...more
This is a medieval set in England. I prefer the ones in Scotland, I'm actually probably one of the few people out there that like reading Scottish dialects! This romance had some humorous moments, but nothing like you'd expect from the description of the book. The heroine, Willow, was sort of drab and uninteresting to me and Bannor (our hero) just came across as too dense sometimes, plus I found all the kids annoying (as they should be) as well as Willow's obnoxious sister and Bannor's eldest so...more

I really didn't know what to expect w/ this book. I have never read anything by this author, but the description made it seem like a book that I just had to read. And I am very glad I took the risk. I absolutely enjoyed this book, and couldn't put it down! (yeah, I really read it one day and into the night). I loved the author's twist on the classic fairy tale, and the characters, both primary and secondary. I especially appreciated the sassiness and independence of the heroine. I loved watching...more
This book was ok, a fun quick-ish read but I didn't really feel the drive to finish or continue reading it that I usually do for a lot of books. I may have been a bit distracted by the anachronisms that I kept feeling but not being able to place my finger on exactly or it could have been influenced by the fact that I just didn't feel that invested in any of the characters. While it wasn't bad, it was nowhere near as good as The Bride and The Beast which I had really liked and got me to get this...more
I thought the plot of this was very good and I quite liked the two main characters as they were both strong-willed but kind.
Willow was still caring even after her family had treated her as badly as they had, whilst Bannor just let everyone assume that every baby that appeared at the castle was his, even though most of them weren't but he didn't want the children to die.
The main thing I didn't like about this book was that the children, no matter how old they were, all spoke as if they were thre...more

Taken from a suggestion of an Eloisa James/Julia Quinn fan that this one was a funny medieval, I found it cute and charming with Banner being a extremely handsome and virile hero, who is so tormented by his 12 unruly kids that he sends his second in command to find him a homely wife. When Willow (more Cinderella than maiden lady, who had to take care of her 10 step-brothers and sisters) mistaken for homely, is instead married to Bannar, hilarity ensures, with parenting skills being the lesson an...more

And then it all changed for me: first i started skipping the words, then paragraphs, then pages...
