Look, I read almost all of this. Probably about 2/3 of it, but I haven't had a big Rails project in awhile, so I'm going to transition this to "read".
It's a really great book. Very readable and their sample app used to bring you up to speed in a very typical Rails fashion (fast) is a true-to-life Rails app - useful. The book itself is the Rails bible and an indispensable reference.

If you are interested in getting started with Rails, this is the way to go. I'd recommend you read the first few chapters of Thomas' "Programming Ruby" first, to get a foundation in ruby first.

Rails is my 1st framework I've paid any attention to, and it looks like a lot of fun. It also looks like there are a lot of rules to follow. I'm sure I'll be able to break the rules once I figure a few things out with Rails, and maybe this book will get me there.

I read the first 100 pages last night. I'm really starting to like this rails stuff. This is really helping me get a handle on Rails. Good stuff.

there's too much going on here for this to be accessible to rookie programmers, i found i ended up going through the motions a lot without truly understanding what was going on underneath.

This book is the Rails obligatory read. Everyone says so. This is the only one I've read and I'm super psyched to ride some rails

The content of this book was outdated almost as soon as it was published. Still a good reference for a few things.

probably would want the ruby programming book by the same author to go along with it.
