The second book in the Final Prophecy series was just as good as the first. This thing has it all, a little sex, a little romance, a lot of action, some urban fantasy, and a hella good plot-line that's filled with obviously well-researched background. Some people have complained about the large cast and the seemingly random way Anderson jumps from POV to POV but frankly I think that's the beauty of the tale. She's got a cast with life and you're curious about all of them even as you know she's n More...

It's weird getting the ARC of a book two weeks after it came out, and weirder still finishing it more like three weeks after. But all in all, even in ARC form, I was quite pleased to get a chance to read Jessica Andersen's Dawnkeepers.

What we've got going on here is a Secret Magical Society that has to save the world from imminent destruction--in this case, the 2012 end of the world foretold by the Mayans. And the Secret Magical Society is the Nightkeepers, whose modern-day descendan More...

Book #48 of 2009

I'm think that I like this series and the saving the world and all. There's enough good/bad conflict that it doesn't feel overly ... convenient is the word that comes to mind. Not so much superficial conflict that resolves itself into a happy ending... there's a little of that, a little of good winning, but taking enough hits too keep it from being too contrived. But. If I thought Strike/Leah were an annoying pair in Nightkeepers - WOW - Nate and Alexis are even m More...

They're two opposites of the same coin. Alexis is someone that had always hoped to be part of the warriors called Nightkeepers from the stories told to her when she was young. Nate had lived a life of hardship and doesn't believe in destiny or things that seem more than just a coinsedence, especially when it comes to his life. When he first got to Sky Watch, the first person he met was the spitting image of the video character he "fell in love with." Though there are some differences i More...

My Review:
This book moved a lot slower for me than the other two that I have read in this series. I don't know how much of that was the story line and how much of that was because I didn't personally connect with the 2 main characters in this one.

Alexis has been raised by her very aggressive and opportunistic winikin. As a result, she comes across as a very fake, brown-nosing, and power-hungry person which is More...

I kind of wish I could give half stars. I would rate this 3 1/2 stars. I love Doc Jess' writing. Dawnkeepers is the perfect follow up to Nightkeepers. I enjoyed the history and theory involved in the book...but sometime they took over the story. I would have loved to see more of Nate and Alexis - but then I don't know how...but just that I craved more of them. The story definitely set up the next book - Skykeepers. I think the story line with Rabbit is going to awesome...and hope that it More...

Alexis, a Nightkeeper who was raised on the lore and embraces her destiny and all the promises of prestige and power that come with it, and Nate, who grew up with no family, not belonging anywhere or to anyone and who has no intention of giving up his freedom and submitting to the notion of destiny, find themselves drawn towards to each other even as they spark each others tempers. Once again it seems fate is trying to forge them together to become a Godkeeper and protecter, as Nate is in Alexi More...

Andersen's clearly got an agenda, and she herding her characters through plot points to get to the end goal. Which, if we're lucky, will be many, many books away. Like J.R. Ward, whose style and structure she somewhat resembles, Andersen clearly plays favorites with her characters, and you kind of get the feeling from all the attention she plays to the subplots that the leads here don't make the list. I'll cop to not being that interested in Nate, either - the Nightkeeper world the author's bui More...

Okay, if it were possible, I would give this 4.5 stars. The reason being is that it took quite a bit longer for me to get sucked into the story than the first book in the series did. That being said, once the ball got rolling (so to speak) I couldn't put it down!

Again, there is a lot of history being thrown at you through the book - so if you're hoping that most of the stuff was explained in the first book and this one would be more action-romance, you'll be sorely disappointed. Gran More...

This is book 2 in the Final Prophecy Series. I must admit, this book didn't grab me as quickly as book 1 which disappointed me since I really loved the first book.

Book 2 follows Alexis and Nate in their battle against the prophecy. For a bit chunk of the book Alexis and Nate are forever going back and forth..do I love you. no. yes. At one point, I'm thinking enough already! Make a decision.

The author drags things out quite a bit by making it very wordy where I don't More...

Great series. Would have scored 5 stars, but I felt at times the flow of the story and dialogue was abruptly halted by a wee bit too much "information" detail (for me). Having said that it is completely obvious that this author has put in the hard yards in the research department.

The other reason this got a solid 4 stars only was because I felt the author belaboured the point of Nate not wanting to be controlled by the gods so-to-speak. It just took a wee bit too long More...

Dawnkeepers is book two in Jessica Andersen's The Final Prophecy series. Finding out that he is a Nightkeeper came as something of a huge shock to Nate Blackhawk. He grew up orphaned and was in and out of foster home after foster home. He even spent some time in juvenile detention and then cleaned up his act and became a success business man, running his own video gaming company. Now, however he is spending his time trying to save the world. To say he doesn't believe in all the prophesy nonsense More...

Well I certainly got my money's worth with Dawnkeepers, Jessica Andersen's second installment in her Nightkeeper Mayan 2012 end of the world series. With 455 pages (of small print too) this one kept me out of mischief for a good long time.

The romantic leads in Dawnkeepers are Alexis, who was raised on Nightkeeper lore and who embraces her destiny and all the promises of prestige and power that come with it, and Nate, who grew up with no family, not belonging anywhere or to anyone an More...

I'm giving this one four stars instead of three based solely on the second half of this book. The first half majorly sucked, if you ask me.
It was extremely hard to get into this book and the pace seemed (I'm using this word, because maybe it was just me) so slow that any slower and it would've moved backwards.

It started almost right where the last one ended, but the first half definitely lacked the "polish" of Nightkeepers. There was no action, only speculation, no pa More...

Book 2 in Jessica Andersen's Final Prophecy Series pretty much starts right up where the first book left off. It was a roller coaster of a read and I loved every dip and turn! This is one paranormal romance series that gets you thinking. I love all the mini/side stories. Usually, I find mini/side stories distracting and annoyingly taking time away from the main characters, but in this series, she really makes you come to care about everyone. My only complaint is that it was a little too tame. I More...

I had hoped that this book would go better than the last book as the world has been set up, but this book was bogged down with all the mythology too. At times I think the author has made the world too involved and not spent enough time with the characters. But even with that said I will keep reading the series, just not one right after the other like I usually do.

I also had a big problem with Nate and Alexis as a couple. It seemed like all they did was fight and argue, and sometim More...

The second installment of the Final Prophecy series was much, much better than the first. I enjoyed Nate and Alexis's story much more thoroughly than Strike and Leah's. The story was much more tighter and Andersen focused more on the hero and heroine than jumping around like she did in Nightkeepers. The pace of the action was much smoother and the side stories didn't bog the main story down at all compared to the first book. Definitely looking for to the next book now!

I love everything about this series. It's fantasy elements are unmatched and you can tell the author has a passion for the subject matter because it is so well-researched. I learn a lot about the ancient Mayan while getting an edge-of-the-seat read. I liked Book II in this series marginally better than the first, Nightkeepers. It packed the same heat, but there was something so satisfyingly romantic about Nate and Alexis, plus lots of great internal conflict between them

Nice complex story involving the end of the world in 2012 and interweaving Mayan and other ancient legends but didn't quite have the gripping quality of some series although all of the standard elements are present. Might be better if one starts with the first book in the series although the tone is somewhat geared toward a younger slang oriented reader.

A fantasy type romance with two people who have special powers to fight evil and the doomsday scenario of 2012. The main characters fight against their relationship because they believe that they are fated mates. They do not just want to have to be together because the fates tell them to do so.

Feh... I don't know, I'm not liking this series. It just seems to drag. Characters are acting silly. Some of the plotting is silly.

I've got book 3. I'm going to give it a go. I already own it & I've invested 2 books worth of reading in the series already. But unless something changes in book 3 I'm going to quit on the series.

Pretty typical good vs. evil with a love story thrown in. These guys have to save the world before it comes to an end on Dec 21, 2012. I liked that it was pretty easy to figure out the characters and the overarching plot even though I hadn't read the first book in the series. I'd definitely read more by this author.

I'm not quite sure about this book. Sometimes it seems that the Maya history and all the rigorously researched facts seems to take over. I would like a bit more on Nate and Alexis. But part of the problem is that they are so angry all the time, or rather Nate is. And the problems just pile on top of each other. Alexis and Nate are in caves that fills with water, in secret chambers with no exit and on and on and on it goes. And the angriest of them all is Rabbit. I would also be angry if I was ca More...

Incredibly detailed and well-developed mythos. Andersen has created an extraordinary world built upon the myths of the Mayans and the 2012 theories. Imaginative, creative story that makes you want to immediately read the next book in the series. Nathan Blackhawk and Alexis Gray are believable characters who win your sympathies and for whom you will be strongly rooting for a happily ever after. There are setbacks as well as advances in the Nightkeepers efforts to be prepared for the final con More...

Enjoyable series cashing in on the current Mayan-end-of-the-world craze going on. While some of the characters haven't fleshed out as much as I would like she shows potential and writes a good story.

This was a much more interesting read than the first book. Alexis was a character I could really connect with, she was more relatable than Leah/Strike. I had no problem following the story either, there are times that too much information was given but other than that, it was a pretty solid read.

Another series in which the mythology is quite complex and somewhat difficult to remember from book to book. The overall story arc concerning the 2012 prophecy is good, though.

These books would actually be better represented under the genre Sci-Fi/Fantasy instead of romance. The author did a ton of research on Mayan culture. While I didn't like this book as much as the first, the whole Mayan clander prediction of 2012 apocalypse is intriguing. The 3rd book in the series comes out in August, I'll definitely read it!
